- CentralWorld is a shopping plaza and complex in Bangkok, Thailand. It is the eleventh largest shopping complex in the world.
The complex, which includes a hotel and office tower, is owned by Central Pattana. In 2006, after three years of design and renovation, CentralWorld was expanded to 430,000 square meters of shopping mall and 1,024,000 square meters of complex, topping nearby rival Siam Paragon in terms of size.

In Canada, Australia or US that would not be called a lifestyle shopping plaza that would be called a shopping mall. Lifestyle or power shopping complexes are all planned carefully around car parking, big box retailers and factory outlet retailers. Lifestyle shopping plazas are carefully planned to detour pedestrian traffic from one cluster of stores to the next, which may be over half a mile from each other in a sea of parking asphalt. Therefore, lifestyle complexes tend to be on the outskirts of a city or on a rural shopping estate. Malls are not huge. Lifestyle shopping plazas are several square km in size and you really need a car to get around them. The worlds largest shopping malls are very small in comparison to an average sized lifestyle power shopping complex. Entire sections of a city are given over to lifestyle shopping complexes.
Central World used to be called World Trade Centre. I love it! I pay another visit to Bangkok. I think very soon Bangkok will rival Singapore when it comes to shopping, or it already tops Singapore, with all the great night markets and wholesalers. Singapore has become too expensive.

Central world is my most favorite mall in Bangkok! What I really like about this mall is they have themed shops every month in their atrium. The last time I was there is the Croatia VS France final match. They come up with booths related to such. They sell different types and kinds of wine from France, Croissant in different flavors, they even have a registration booth for Bangkok version of Tour de France! I tried their wine tasting as well for 50 Bht (price is cheap because it’s their last day and they’re closing) for three wines. The gentlemen who assisted me is clearly French (I could tell from his accent and his cute! ) really helpful and knowledgeable about the wine industry! He recommend me a Chemin des Pèlerins which is a popular in France as a table wine but Im not really into aromatic black fruit taste. Anyway, I always go to Central world because of such themes and now they come up with such captivating and well organized atrium. There’s always looking forward to at CW! Thanks Martin for sharing!
