G'day Australia, I'm just a bloke on a shovel, turning big rocks into small ones. But I know of dark times. Lost me dad when I was 11, darkest day it was. But my best day, the light at the end of the tunnel, was when the community came onto the farm and help my mum with the harvest. Growing up I learn that "people help people". There has been bad days after this, job lost, money problems, mum being sick, mum dying, homelessness. But I always have how the community help mum. There are people out there, good people that can help. All you have to do is ask for help. So Merry Christmas Australia, as every day a gift. Cheers

I visited my brother who lives on the Sunshine Coast two years ago and the level of complacency that I encountered, whenever I talked to people about Australias' economy, just blew my mind. At a dinner party, I got into a lively conversation with a guy who owns several investment homes. I asked him what were Aussies going to do when the economy tanked(in 2020) due to unsustainable levels of privately owned debt. He couldn't even comprehend what I was saying. "Everything was fine, no one was struggling, there's nothing on the news saying that we should be worried". My brother chimed in with "and if there was a problem paying off all these mortgages, you can just go out and get a second job"! I said and what if you get laid off and there is no option of getting a second job? They just laughed. I told them that Australia has just become a country that produces nothing except holes in the ground, makes flat whites and sells houses to each other(and a ton of Asians). They couldn't even contemplate that a downturn was possible, never mind on it's way. I found out at that dinner, that every couple there held multiple mortgages on investment properties around their town. Too much debt that has to be repaid, too many shiraz soaked dinners spent one upping each other on their brilliance at real estate speculation, and no one is paying attention to the countrys' fundamentals which is a house of cards.

Learn farming and you will not grow hungry. Learn how to be resilient, it will help emotionally. You can't prepare for everything but you can learn to adjust through self awareness and how to prioritise needs before wants. As human beings it is in our nature to want to survive. "Capital must protect itself in every possible way, both by combination and legislation. Debts must be collected mortgages foreclosed as rapidly as possible. When, through process of law, the common people lose their homes, they will become more docile and more easily governed through the strong arm of the government applied by a central power of wealth under leading financiers. These truths are well known among our principal men, who are now engaged in forming an imperialism to govern the world. By dividing the voters through the political party system, we can get them to expend their energies in fighting for questions of no importance. It is thus, by discrete action, we can ensure for ourselves that which has been so well planned and so successfully accomplished".
    Montagu Norman,
Governor of the Bank of England, addressing the United States Bankers' Association, New York, Idaho Leader, 26 August 1924.
“Liberalism is the party of upstarts who have insinuated
themselves between the people and its big men. Liberals feel
themselves as isolated individuals, responsible to nobody. They
do not share the nation’s traditions, they are indifferent to its
past and have no ambition for its future. They seek only their
own personal advantage in the present. Their dream is the
great International, in which the differences of peoples and
languages, races and cultures will be obliterated. “

Why don't they give those Aussies who have lost their jobs, special passes to work on the farms that need help. Otherwise you gonna have food shortages also.

Yasmin Gooch - backpacker at Marnyup highlights the ANSWER to a lot of these problems. We need to band together as a COMMUNITY (In our respective local areas) and practice "best practice" or "universal precautions" and get back to work....

When is ABC going to do an in-depth report on the incompetence of Daniel Andrew's Govt? Or is that a no-go-zone because he is labor?

A good overview, unfortunately the average person who has gotten a pay check every week would not take this in because they have never owned or run a business in their whole working life. The industries highlighted are not your average business they were all big money makers in industry or hospitality. To show Byron Bay and the business there that are struggling is not a priority industry for most Australians and be honest they have all made a lot of money with expensive prices for many years. Then WA they are showing industries that produce food for consumption but have no backpackers to service the crops , well go down to Centrelink and sign up those who are seriously needing work and that will do an honest days work for honest pay, which means you will be paying a regulated rate of pay and not the low rate backpackers are happy to take. Yes there are going to be issues and changes because of decisions made in this country over the last 6 months ,but you eventually need to stand up and take control of your family’s future don’t sit around waiting for everything to fall in your lap.

On the fruit pickers... it isn't just the fault of 'dole bludgers' not taking jobs. I was really thinking about putting my current job on hold to go help out. I even had a few friends who would go with me to make it a working holiday... but then I typed into Seek "fruit picking jobs" and there were 3 or 4 in WA. I type in 'manjimup avocado fruit picking job' and there's no job. I think these businesses who can't find fruit pickers have themselves to blame first before they blame border closures. How are they supposed to get workers if they aren't advertising? Even the avocado guy on here isn't advertising jobs. You can't help stupid.
I looked into helping with the Wheat crop. They need harvester drivers which is hugely skilled. They've been getting drivers from overseas for years and are desperate now they can't get cheap labour. What wage are they offering for this highly skilled job? A job that's so technical the only people who can be retrained into it are pilots? $35 an hour, 12 hours a day for 3 months. If that same skilled driver drives a truck they can get $40 an hour with the same company. I wonder why they can't find anyone? Not saying it's bad money.. just saying that they don't seem to understand supply and demand. The wage hasn't gone up with the supply shortage of workers.

Adrian Julz . It’s so true what you said. When I said go to Centrelink to look for those out of work who would do an honest days work I wasn’t saying they were dole bludgers. I truely believe there are genuine hard workers like yourself who would happily do the jobs , I don’t think the ABC were fair with their idea of representing the average sole trader and employees but I suppose they probably only thought the program would be watched by the more educated and entrepreneurial than the average Joe Blow. As the saying goes you will only oil the noisey wheel .
