    To those who put the time of a favorite section and why it is liked--thank you! I do check those out. I'm rather new to the Mahler symphonies, but found that I really like the beginning of the third movement. It seems to be the most re-played part of the symphony. As you look at page after page of the score, think of Mahler sitting at desk and writing each note and marking each notation. I wonder how much he could do on a productive day, how many pages.

Its gonna be about a guy whos a horrible person/boyfriend whos girlfriend eventually unalived herself (hence the first movement) and then he goes on a very emotional redemption arc to forgive himself (hence the rest of the symphony and the finale).

    35:00 i stop here today 😊 From time to time i come to this piece (because i really like the first movement, ans because i bought the expensive score )but just to confirm that the ii movement drives me crazy, because it just frustrates what the first one announces. Also because it is in itself a nonsense with that useless fast part, and the super mundane dance. The only way to defend this is to understand the second movement as a counter-movement. Who knows… For me it is a mood killer. And the third movement is again a dance, in minor, but still too similar to second one

      The first movement is actually in very clear, neat, and organized sonata form. The second and third movements are both simple rondos. Fourth movement is plain and simple A/B. Fifth movement is a collection of clearly distinguishable musical episodes with genius recycling of themes and motifs. Theres plenty of form in mahler, If you disagree you just have no taste

    • @Whatismusic123
      @Whatismusic123 Год назад +3

      @@DynastieArtistique form is alot more than just written convention.
      Just because something has all the bullet-points required to be a rondo, or a sonata, or whatever, doesn't mean it is one. Because, first of all, things like a theme, need to actually be *heard* as a theme, things like development, need to actually be *heard* as development, and all these sections need ro logically connect to each other and push the forward momentum of the piece.
      There is no form in this piece. There is only form according to terrible theory textbooks that completely miss the point of why form exists and is required for music.
      Edit: also, people often forget that the musical material needs to actually fit into the form. Some material, alot of material, literally cannot be made into a sonata, a chorale, etc.
