Hey! Long time no see. REALLY long.
Before arranging this, I thought to myself, "how can I make this song as infuriating as possible to practice?" And so, a few months later, this was the result.
I was pretty late to jump on the jojo memes train for Giorno's Theme. I started arranging and practicing this piece in November and it took until mid-February to get a recording, then another month till now to make the video the best I can.
Initially, the capo was on fret 2, since most of the song had a Bminor chord and putting a capo on the 2nd fret would make it an Aminor chord shape. But this also meant I'd lose access to the lower bass notes. Since the bassline was a very driving element of the song's groove, I wanted to keep it. As a result, this song has a lot of barre chords.
Because of the fast speed and long sustaining notes, it was difficult to play this to an extent where the song's bass line, melodies and percussion all lived up the hype of the song equally. But at the end of the recording session, I was pretty proud of the result! Then during the mixing I hit a wall.
I couldn't get this mix to sound the way I wanted no matter how I did, despite the recording turning out great. So I got Antoine Dufour to mix it, and the mix turned out better than I had expected. Highly recommend using his services if you're looking for an exceptional mix.

@@RobertChen the fact that you arranged something like this is still miles ahead of what I can imagine... any tips on how to get started? (I can figure out melodies pretty well but the bass notes evade me)
Sure, gladly. My method of arranging is still pretty unorthodox and is hard to put into words, so I'll tell you what people usually do. This requires a small amount of music theory but it's much easier than my method.
1) you found the melody right? Good. Now find out what key that melody is played in. I recommend you learn the names of the notes on the fretboard in standard, then convert your current arrangement into notes, just write them down somewhere. Search up tutorials on what a musical key signature is.
2) once you've found the key signature, google "chords in the key of X" with X being replaced with the key you found. This will give you access to the chords that you will most likely find in the song.
3) when you're trying to find out the bass note of a song (not giornos theme but that uses its bass note as a root note of a chord), try to find the chord instead by trying out every chord in that key. Write down the order of the chords for each section of the song, for example, the intro, verse, prechorus, chorus, bridge (you can search up how to identify which section is which). Once you got the chords down, you can just take the root note of that chord (lowest note of the chord) and that should be your bass note 90% of the time.
4) Now that you've found the chords and what's likely to be the bass note, I'm gonna add a little extra in here. Put bits of that chord in your arrangement as "filler" in between the melody. Over time you'll understand more about where to put these fillers as you practice more arranging.
4.5) on the off chance that your bass note isn't actually the root note of a chord, you're going to need some ear training. That's attainable by just continuing to arrange songs as accurate as you can. But if you follow the top 4 steps, you should end up with a fairly decent arrangement.

I have a stupid questiom but here it goes. When you transcribe songs to fingerstyle, do you add percussions from the start, or find ways to add them after you've done with all the music/lyrical notes. And when you finally finish transcribing, do you need time to learn to play what you wrote or do you kinda know how to play it already xD since you were figuring it out in the first place while writing down the tab. I know i am confusing and stuff, but i really do wonder. (Ps. I love your covers and you sure have improved beyond recognition from the old songs ❤️)
Well the word you're mistaking transcribe for is arrange. As for the first question, I add in percussions at the same time as the rest of the notes. I don't arrange by adding one layer on top of another one-by-one. When I finish arranging, I have a vague idea of how the arrangement goes but it usually comes naturally unless it's difficult and hard to remember like this arrangement.
