The Me 264 "Amerikabomber" has been one of the most requested bombers the past several months. I hope you guys enjoy the footage and I must say, this plane surpassed my expectations of it in game.

13:23 So, funny thing about the Ruhr map... all the bomb zones (and the airfields) are *DOUBLE* the HP of any other map. So yeah, normally an 1800kg bomb is overkill for a zone, except on Ruhr for whatever reason.
Kinda good in a way too because you can drop all your bombs, so that there’s less risk of getting shot down before dropping
And the bases respawn 2 times

@@LordDarthHarry Make sense they did tho, while weak on some parts of the airframe that shoudl break, these are BOMBERS, they are large, robust and actually large enough to be redundant. Problem is that their damage model is essentially a fighter, but larger, and thats a big issue because their frame as such isn't modeled correctly and will cause wing break at the minutest of damage, simply because the aerodynamic forces of a much larger airframe are applied to a understrengh spar that is neither realistic or fun. Moreover, this causes metal frame/skin planes to be subsentially weaker than wooden planes while by all metrics they shoudn't. A single 50cal bullet can break the wings of a TU-4 (did the test btw) while either a wood bomber (PE-8) or a fighter can take multiple hits form 30mm cannons directly to the frame and survive as long as the aircraft isn't pulling a 5/7g turn. I in fact enjoyed the PE-8's ability to gobble shells to be the only heavy bomber that can jostle braindead fighters into its kill zones. Other bombers can try to do the same but are likely to simply die a few seconds in the engagement due to pilot snipe, plane burnt down, or wing breaks.
@@mobiuscoreindustries While I agree in general that larger planes shoudl; probably have am ore complex damage model. How B17s were before was NOT ok either. German 30mms took 3-4 hits on average to bring them down. "Back in the day" there were times you could unload the full 60 rounds from an mk 108 into a wing / engine block and it just continued on it's merry way

@@ridge9066 Rather too low on the BR scale. It should sit right below the He 177, since it has MORE bombload but is slower with much lower speed limit and somewhat more fragile with about equal defensive firepower.

Au contraire, Wellyn is another TBLF steely eyed pixel killer. His 27 kills obviously didn’t make the final cut. That’s my story and I’m sticking to it.

lmao go ask the B-29s and TU-4s. People ask why they go spaceclimging and avoid any fights, and they will simply point to that number and ask you just how much bank you have left exactly.

That thing is so terrifying that people are dying just seeing it. The Me 264 admittedly is OP where it sits as I learned attempting air RB because if you go near them you die and they just bomb out airfields if they aren't flying like you

Having flown both of the VBs extensively that kill at 23:22 sums up the experience for both of them very well.
Here’s a random guide to the me 264 for anyone who wants it. Climb as high as possible, but don’t rely on height alone to save you. Take an indirect route to your target, go on the edge of the map. When you arrive at the bases do as much damage as possible, and then cut power to your engines, and glide to your airfield, rearm and go up again. Trust me I’ve played hundreds of games in this thing and only been shot down 4 times :)
I like how they bomb normally with front line bombers while as soon as i get shot at or have to bomb something i immediately go into a full dive

When was the Me 264 developed? I know the idea was that it would drop bombs on America, but it never really had a chance of doing so since it was developed late on the war, right?
The first flight was in very late 1942, but it wasn't continued past the prototype stage to allow Messerschmitt to concentrate on building fighters apparently.

You need to do this in BVs, 4 BVs flying in formation would just melt anything that looks in your direction
BVs are actually rather fragile, not to mention a bloody huge target. Might not work as well as you think.

Ex: 37mm cannons did nothing, 20mm neither. he was the last one and the match ended because my team reported him lmao.
Bo you need to try War Thunder VR cockpit flying. It's so fun. Make sure you have a flight stick for max experience

@@build2270 Franz Stigler and Charlie Brown (the guy he escorted) post war had been living 200 miles apart, Charlie Brown living in Seattle (where I also happen to live) and Stigler living in Vancouver BC. They ended up meeting somehow and actually became very close friends until Stigler died in March 2008. It's crazy that 2 pilots who normally would've sworn to destroy each other became close friends just because one of them was amazed at how damaged a B-17 Flying Fortress was and still flew

The 264 is cancer when you play as allies at this BR.
Its faster, climbs better, has a huge payload, and devastating defensive guns compared to all other bombers at the BR. I lost a game in less then five minutes because the enemy team had three 264s that destroyed all the bases and the airport in one run before we could climb high enough to intercept them and I air spawned as a heavy fighter.
Jup, it seems that only the P-61 and the P-38's can stop that thing well.

What's not as smooth as butter is when you get pilot sniped while turning so you lag back to a different position every 1.5 seconds
Bombers in war thunder need a buff.. It's so stupid that you just get out climbed by fighters and everything else when your literal job is to climb and bomb at altitudes that fighters cant reach.
