Thanks for the excellent tutorial, I have many scraps of exotic hard woods and all of the tools necessary that will make very good knobs, without any out of pocket money!
I had some white 'cutting boards' that I used to make jig track guides for my table saw, and made some of these! they turned out really good, I used epoxy instead of construction adhesive. Thanks for a great video, I LOVE SILENT MOVIES!!!
Really helpful to see you write out each step on the stock as you progress through the process! Very well done. I have the luxury of having AutoCAD on my laptop, so I paused the video and drew a template as the video progressed. If there is any interest I'd be happy to share a PDF of the finished template. But your instructions make it so easy to lay out without a template! Thanks for sharing.
Thank you for your great feedback, yes I would welcome any help with a drawing. It would be nice to offer to other viewers...my email address is listed on my about tab, please feel free to contact me, I see would really like to see what you've drew up!
I was just in the process of making some 5-finger knobs.... This was a gem of a video which I will use to make my knobs. I very much prefer 5-finger knobs just for the ergonomics/feel. My challenge was drawing the 72 degree angles but your use of a pentagon gives me a better tool for the layout. Thanks for your video!
This is great! I am looking to build a wooden clamp or clamps to hold a door rail in place - long story, but I want to make the door removable and building a few clamps with your awesome knobs may just be what I need.
Agreed. I've also never seen your approach of cutting out the holes in a star pattern first, then hogging out the middle to form the knob. That's a LOT easier than the other techniques I've seen, and does not require a jig, etc. Nice work!
Damn boy! That was excellent! Thanks for making me feel so stupid! Just kidding! VERY WELL DONE, SIR!!! Elegant, sophisticated result with simple techniques, due to your smart engineering!
Wow what a great video, i`ve been trying to make my own clamps, have the clamps made but i just can`t get the knobs made, i`ve tried a few different methods but they have all failed. Thank you.
Hey Henry! Love the video! This is exactly what I’m trying to accomplish! Just sent over an email! Hope to get a response! Keep up the great work! Sorry it took me 4 years to find your channel!
Great video! I just finished building a Moxon vise and made some star knobs and they look nothing like yours. Is their a chance of getting a set of plans from you? Thanks.
Excellent detailed instructions. I'm looking forward to making 3-4 knobs for a table saw sled . Can you please send me pdf? I'm struggling with duplicating pentagon template inside 2 1/2 circle. Also curious about how long the carriage bolts you used?
The bolts are 1/4”’ x 3 1/2” long, most of the build details you will find in the video description, I would need your email address in order to get the template to you, mine is located in the “about” tab on the top of my main channel page ....
Great video Henry. Just the information I need. I’m going to make eight of these right away. Thanks for sharing. I would also like a copy of the template. Thank you.
I liked that you had a bag of store bought ones laying in the background under the drill press. We all need our inspiration. Nice video tutorial. aren't you worried about the locknut and nut coming loose inside the cap?
I was going to use one that had the nylon insert but I didn't have any on hand when I made the video, so far it been holding up...... thanks for the feedback!
Wow! Well done! During assembly, you used two types of "glue" to cement components together. When you embedded and set the top of the carriage bolt in the body of the 5-star knob component, you used "something" that flowed out of a white tube. What was that "something"? Thanks for sharing the process!
I gave these a try and even though it looks the same, I''m having some issues with the bolt. I applied the construction adhesive and let it cure for longer than needed. Now that I started using my knobs are not rotating the screw anymore (knob is gliding and screw remains fixed). This has been happening to more knobs the more I use them. So far 3/12. Any chance you faced his? And any suggestions on how to fix it? I'm planning on removing the "lid" so I can at least remove it from the thread it's stuck on, but don't know how to make it work.
The knobs have been holding up and are working pretty well so far, the only suggestion I can make is that when your assembling the knobs is to make sure you tighten the nut as tight as you can possibly get it and the other thing that will help is to use nuts with a nylon insert, hope this helps!
@@henryworkswoodandmetal Thank you for the response. I have already tightened the existing plain nuts as much as I could. I'll get some nylon insert ones and report back.
Good video! No irritating music and vocal rambling. Just right into the process.
TY !
Love the clean, informative video without having to guess what the craftsman is measuring, etc. Thank you so much for this video
Thanks for taking the time to leave your feedback, I really appreciate it!!!

Nice idea Henry. Putting that cap on it makes it look more finished. And the spacer absolutely makes sense.

Well planned.
This video shows the complexity of building something that appears simple, although has many steps toward completion.
Thank you for your positive comment!!!
I normally make the knobs for my projects. I like your style better than what I am using.... Thanks
Thanks, these are nice because they can be made any size and the don't have the bolt coming through....
Great video with clear steps. Even so, I would love a pdf for my future projects. Thanks for the great detail.
Thank you! I will need an email address in order for me to get it to you!
Great work. I look forward to making these many side knobs
