Wow people really just wanna hate on Iowa eh... telling. Iowa is facing SO much newness this year. SO many variables. The truth is NO team would be adapting with Clark & the seniority leaving after last year, any better. That's how significant of a direct impact on every game CC was, shes unprecedented. Watch what Iowa looks like in 1-2 years. Lot of couch coaches embarrassing themselves always claiming they know better... It's... predictable at this point, guys....🙄
@@richhahn2443Iowa wasn't a championship contending team prior to Clark like those teams were prior to their senior-most players leaving though. Their winning culture is new, which is why the freshman players who were likely inspired by the '23 &' 24 Iowa WBB team are better than the seniors and juniors.
@@Ashlyn-p1r Look at Tennessee and Kentucky's records last year and this year with new coaches. What sophomores does Iowa have? What the heck was Iowa planning to do for a point guard before Lucy fell in their lap. They could easily be in last place in B10.
I think that there is some friction between coach JJ and Lucy. Lucy is the leading scorer in this Iowa team and she was hardly mentioned. The day that coach JJ realizes that Lucy should be the first option is when Iowa will start having consistent success.
The upperclass(wo)men never needed to be vocal leaders, so they never learned. There was plenty of leadership in the huddles these last couple of years with Czinano, Warnock, Clark, Martin, and Marshall being a multi-year starting lineup.
I completely agree with what you said. I thought Lucy and Hannah were going to be the upperclassmen but they have been sitting on the bench a lot due to fouls in Hannah’s case or occasional injury. Lucy can be a playmaker so I don’t know why she sits, it makes me sad. 😢 As a distant fan, I was wondering why the chemistry needed to gel and win more games is not as good as it was in the last two seasons. Hannah in foul trouble has been a recurring disappointment and if I was her teammate I would be frustrated knowing I can’t count on her to stay in the game and not get needless fouls. Also so many turnovers this year due to passes that are not well timed or have the right angle. Iowa also gives up and doesn’t get second chance points or steals very often. Everybody needs to step up in leadership and trust each other to make hustle plays.
@pamwittman4832 I find myself saying, "NO!!" A few times a game when there is a pass that is about to be made that might not be the best decision. Unfortunately, these things require experience to avoid. Passes that were there in HS aren't going to be there in college as the players are too fast.
Yeah, the fans have a better camera angle. It looks like a telegraphed pass to the other team’s defender every time but in real time it’s hard to make a good pass with defensive pressure cutting off options. Passing is an art and Iowa has had some really talented passers and players with good hands. In a previous interview Coach Jensen talked about how teammates couldn’t catch hard passes from CC at first; she had to learn to be a better passer.
Our upperclassmen 1, 2, 3s can't successfully feed the post to save their lives. An interior pass from Lucy, Kylie, and Syd is pretty much a guaranteed turnover. Taylor Stremlow and Guyton get it done. Can't be argued.
If Hannah hadn't blow four layups, she would have had 34 points. I love that she made all six FTs. There's no doubt she should play the 5 until someone taller can do better than O'Grady. O'Grady plays better defense than offense and won't get all those easy layups against good teams. Guyton is going to be the star, along with Hannah, in the future. Although Lucy got her pts. and other stats, she isn't an active playmaker. Guyton shows more energy, and more aggressive and intuitive moves than Lucy, who really only got going at the end of the game. Guyton also shows more shooting confidence than Lucy and will be more valuable to the team than anyone other than Hannah this season. Lucy needs to be more aggressive shooting more mid-range shots and going to the rim. Coach Jensen didn't even mention Lucy in the presser, which is telling. I know the 2/2/25 date to celebrate CC was because of the 2s, but Iowa will be demolished by USC., so it's a shame the game and celebration coincide, but at least it will be a happy ending. I don't see any chance of Iowa making the NCAA tournament. Next season looks much brighter because the freshman will have experience and the incoming recruits look promising.
I want to see a double post. That should cause a mismatch with most other teams. I wonder if the problem is Jan is a back to the basket post coach? It's dumb to not figure out a way to play Addie more, as she is often one of their leading scorers. They did their typical collapse in the last 2 minutes again last night. The only difference was they were playing the worst team in the league.
Ava plays better defense than Addi. Ava is a better shot blocker, rebounder, and overall faster on defense. Ava just needs to work on her shot. Addi is a much higher percentage shooter this season than Ava, which is why Addi is getting the nod
After that late game problem with the press, it was great to see the team hold it together and keep the lead. Good game!!

Look at Tennessee. Look at Kentucky. Look at LSU. All had ranked teams their 1st year under a new coach. They brought in the players they needed.
