Great video, love all the history to Castleford. Unfortunately it's nowhere near as nice as it was 20 years ago, it's really gone downhill. The markets used to be amazing, a proper outdoor market used to be out the back of Carlton Lanes. There used to be decent pubs too, you could go on a proper pub crawl from one end of the town to the other, and then have a boogie in one of the nightclubs, the majority of them are gone now. Full of empty shops and crackheads now unfortunately.
Great to see how it's all changed so Much and this video does show this in detail here . I would like some day to return there if possible to relive the memory of it all. Sadly old and living in care in York now I doubt I will be able to do so unless driven by car !!!
I'm sure you'll get the chance to visit again, hopefully on a nice sunny day like when this video was made. Thank you so much for your comments and for watching, I'm really glad you enjoyed the video :)
I actually live in Castleford and really enjoyed this video and the information you provided. It's always good to learn more historical knowledge about a place. The quality is amazing and really makes the town look a little more vibrant than it tends to be in real life. 😆
Thank you so much! I'm really glad you enjoyed the video - Castleford certainly is home to some fascinating history, and I do hope that the town keeps putting more of it on show, it does add a lot of vibrancy to the streets of Castleford :)
The so lovely Castleford I remember in the seventies was indeed a great place to live then. We had the New Star Cinema and The Albion Cinema to go to now both gone. The old indoor market and outside was a good shopping place and going shopping to G.T.Smiths supermarket was a nice experience. Much change and altered to suit today's living is not for me but I will always like and love the place I grew up in and old Castleford remains true in my heart and memories.
Castleford is a fascinating place indeed - I hope that this video was a good opportunity to see the town even when you're not able to make it over there! Thank you so much for watching - I really hope you enjoyed the video :)

Vous avez raison! Il y a beaucoup de choses charmante de Castleford, et surtout les vues de la footbridge sur la Calder :) Merci pour regarder comme toujours - et bonne journée!
I love the name of that bridge. Once in York, a tour guide told us the original name of Grape Lane. Seems there are others by that name in other cities in England. Like you, I won't get into the details, but Wikipedia has the explanation for the original non-PC version.
Ha ha yes I know the one you're referring to. Fortunately this one in Castleford is a little less rude - I think RUclips would have me removed if I went into detail about the Grape Lanes around the country :) Thanks for watching and commenting as always - I'm really glad you enjoyed the video!
Hi! It depends where I am - if certain towns are within walking distance of each other it's always nice to walk! For example this day I filmed in Pontefract and then took a walk up to Castleford :)
