'LET THEM FIGHT!'
'Now quickly! Turn the cameras away!'
"LET THEM FIGHT"
How the police handle confrontations between Antifa and the Proud Boys.
Well actually straight after he says that there is not a single tease
I thought that was fun. The only thing I remember about the movie.
@@nicolajvangsgaard6144The cut away of the doors closing is right after that what are you talking about
The main character falls into the same "the generic military guy can do anything" Some Navy EOD officer that also is magically HALO qualified, does a perfect landing in the middle of a city like he does it all the time, and can keep up with Special Operations on their mission, and somehow does it better than they can. Uh, what?
Agreed, all that what you described is called "typical American Gloss". Hollywood does this too much in their movies.
I'm still pissed that Bryan Cranston died.
@@rockdesu You can calm down it was actually only the character he played who died, Cranston is still around.
Please edit this to Bryan Cranston's *character* , it could save alot of heart attacks lol
I believe Bryan Cranston was okay to sacrifice. But why so early in the film?
oh wow
@@ferndog1461 Exactly.
2:19 Bryan Cranston is one of the best actors of all time.
He is the one who knocks!
Skyler learnt that the hard way. You don't fuck with Cranston
+Mattos7 skyler never fcked with Walter white
+Abraxas Mind lmao okay old man
***** Not all of us were fortunate to be born in the golden age of cinema. That said Cranston is the boss and to say otherwise would be a great injustice. We have some pretty good actors to look up in the here and now.
Quite a coincidence. I just started rewatching your Monster Madness 'Godzillathon' yesterday and was about to check out your previous review of the film.
I pretty much agree on all points, except on Ken Watanabe. I actually thought he was wasted, since all he did in the movie was be 'that Japanese guy' who talks about Japanese things. He doesn't affect the plot in any way, nor does he really give any information that the army actually used. Really, his only purpose in the movie is for everyone to quote his 'Let them fight' in the trailer.
Like the T-rex in jurassic park.... That was a full size robot. :D lol.
You're right. The T-rex was only CGI when it was running or far away
Speaking of that did he ever talk about the CGI in Jurrassic World? Which BTW I thought was awful!
It was CGI when you saw the whole T-Rex. The robot was only used when you saw only his head.
wrong. in the scene outside in the rain when the t rex attacks, that was a full size animatronic.
Anndd? XD
i think the soldier part is the "Michael bay
EFFECT
Love James and always respect his views! Gareth Edwards is very good at finding interesting ways to shoot things - and I loved the sky diving scene because that's exactly what he's doing there, finding a new way to shoot Godzilla that isn't from the ground upwards, but is believable. Along with the music, I totally understood how foreboding that mission would be for a soldier. I thought it was spine-tingling.
There are other examples of him doing this. The second time I watched the movie, I spotted an amazing moment where the larger muto destroys a building and disappears inside a dust cloud, and just at that moment the winged muto lands, and the flap of it's wings blows away the dust cloud and reveals the other muto. Again, incredible visuals, finding a way to shoot these animals in a realistic but artistically interesting way.
This is where the strength of the movie lies - the cinematography surrounding the mutos and godzilla is astounding.
And... you don't know who Bryan Cranston is? That's amazing.
Back in July of 2014, less than 2 months after the film's release, Thomas Tull, CEO of Legendary Pictures and producer of "Godzilla 2014", confirmed in an interview that their would be an extended cut of "Godzilla 2014" released sometime in the future. Never again was it mentioned and I've yet to see it in stores. Since the sequel isn't coming out until 2019, I REALLY hope Legendary goes through with releasing that extended cut. While I still enjoy the original theatrical cut for what it is and what it tried to accomplish, it could definitely benefit from more scenes with Godzilla and, if we're really lucky, extended fight scenes between him and the MUTO's
you've never seen malcolm in the middle, james?!
yeah but I can see him not having seen that. but Malcolm??
Like I said, I disagree. I think Malcolm has a much broader demographic.
Or Saving Private Ryan
+skinflutey or Driver
+Metalcell never saw it .-.
In regards to practical effects, I think a big-scale thing like this is what _should_ be CG. Monsters aside, the destruction of huge buildings looks significantly more real with CG than it does with miniatures.
It looks most real as a mix of both, a model explosion added by CG to make the scale, amount of small debris and the shape of the smoke seem right.
If they just teamed up Brian Cranston and Ken Watanabe throughout, this movie would have been awesome.
And ken should do other stuff than just stare into the camera.
They basically threw away the two best actors in the move. Gotta love Hollywood.
Basically, without Kick-ass this movie would have kicked ass.
His son did have plot armor! It drove me crazy. chose bine
For me, it was a B+ movie compared to the D grade Tri-Stsr version. I enjoyed it A LOT and I look forward to the sequel.
I can't wait for the 2020 rematch film Godzilla vs King Kong :D
+Batman V DEADPOOL are Godzilla and Kong even comparable in size?
Hell yeah this Godzilla movie was way way way way better than the previous American adaptation. You could say the 1998 version was cheesy but it wasn't even the good kind of cheese!
I enjoyed both. As James said, If you watch the tri-star movie again and do not think of it as a godzilla movie and just as a goofy summer blockbuster monster movie it's a fun film. It's biggest downfall was only that it called itself a Godzilla movie. By any other name it would be seem as a decent film.
i like how his version of the movie sounds much more interesting lol
I am so happy just to hear James mention our country, I never expected that one day that would happen in one of his video, I am the biggest fan from Philippines. I can now die
Now i wanna hear his opinion on the Cartoon Series followup to the Tristar Godzilla movie.
that would be cool
***** I actually watched a couple episodes a few weeks ago, it's a bit weird but it's at least entertaining.
The Godzilla Series was great, way more faithful to the original movies, and far superior to the Zilla movie.
if I remember correctly didn't that version state he was growing through the series
***** Honestly he is. He is WAAAY more powerful than Zilla, quite close to the original in terms of power.
Godzilla didn't do much damage cause he was the hero of the movie
he is the hero in many of the other movies but he does more there.
The cost of rebuilding the cities is generally accepted by the tax payer if he saves the city and population as a whole. :)
+Liofa What tax payers, they are the ones that get killed, Godzilla needs to reck the whorehouse... (OK auto correct just changed whitehouse to that but I'm keeping it.)
+JediPrime7 they were clearly basing this Godzilla off the movies he is most famous for, the ones were he saves humanity. (the best ones)
Godzilla is a straight up hero in "Godzilla vs. Spacegodzilla." He's there to kick Spacegodzilla's ass and then promptly leaves when that's done.
I thought the movie was good overall, it's one of those "Godzilla's a good guy" movies, but it was a last-minute change from an R rated movie, many of the more gruesome Godzilla destruction scenes were cut, and as a result, Godzilla has less screentime.
The movie had potential to a really great monster movie, nut they decided to appeal for mass-market instead.
As per the usual sadly. :/

Now we need a worldwide theatrical release for Godzilla Resurgence, and a good sequel with Godzilla 2 in 2018.
As James said it, there is not enough time to promote the film to the west since the trailer was released very near to the movie's release date. Sure there's the internet, but there is only so much you can do with it
DeLEET Titan
Who knows, maybe if the movie's succesful in Japan, they will release it worldwide next year. It's not uncommon for foreign films to release in the US and the rest of the world a year late, like Godzilla 1984 in Japan and 1985 in the US.
burning godzilla
They're not gonna think that, people won't hate it (unless the movie is shit) people love the original Godzilla movies, and even if people did think it was a sequel to Godzilla 2014, wouldn't people want to see a sequel, G14 was very succesfull in the box office.
I will never like how many times the focus shifts away from Godzilla. Happens far too often and tests audience patience to the point of being annoyed. During the scene when the doors close as godzilla and the mutos fight there was a collective groan from the audience at my theater, and people literally threw their hands up in the air. Not an enjoyable experience lol
Well James, I hope you saw the trailer for Godzilla King of the Monsters. What are your thoughts?! LET US KNOW!
This movie disappointed me, because so many people said it is good. But it wasn't.
But it's better than the 1998 one, right?
I'm afraid not.
The soldiers falling through the sky as the monsters fight is easily one of the best scenes.
Thankfully were gonna get to see what else Legendary is capable of with monsters movies with the upcoming King Kong, and they're really gonna be put to the test with the Godzilla vs King Kong movie they want to make
I couldn't disagree more. I love the slow burn of this movie, I love the suspense of the cutaways and live the cinematography and the score.
Let's be honest if you just want to see monsters fight for two hours watch Pacific Rim. But the slow burn monster movie is how I think they should be done. It woked for Alien and Jaws and it worked here.
I do agree that killing Joe Brody was stupid.
Also the DVD version is better lit in the end scenes than the blue ray.
Agreed. It's exactly what I wanted from a more serious Godzilla film. Just wished they hadn't killed off the most interesting character...
Where is the DVD version different in the end???
I think it didn't work for Godzilla because it cut away from godzilla fighting with the muto. I'm fine with him being more suspenseful by himself, but teasing the audience with a fight scene, and then cutting away is just frustrating. It's like having an Alien vs Predator movie where every time the alien and predator encounter eachother, the movie cuts away before they fight.
But godzilla movies are about monster not humans. Fuck that i want see monsters fighting
No they're not. Godzilla movies aren;t about monster fighting. Yes it has monster fights in them, but the human characters are always the main focus.
The problem with this movie is that they barely show any monster fighting. Or having them go through the city destroying stuff instead showing them after.
That movie was horrible.
I came in expecting Godzilla, and what I got is a shamelessly boring propaganda film about how great umerica is and how brave it's soldiers are, that's trying to ride on the Godzilla name to cash in.
There's no excuse. A boring cash in is a boring cash in, Godzilla or not.
Don't watch the orgrinal then, you get just about the same
+Joey Hollywood Films watched it, it's far better. I don't recall it having an uninspired, uninteresting subplot about military propaganda that steals the focus of the whole movie. Hollywood thinks that if they take the exact same pattern as another successful thing, it would work without having to understand why it works. I find it to be an American mentality in general. They do the same thing with video games.
it did man it was about Japan and the military, he'll Godzilla was a metaphor for the A-bomb lol
Agreed, I saw this movie in theatres and all it did was just bore the living shit out of me. just hated everything about it. The acting was piss poor and I couldn't help but feel 75% of people just went and saw this movie because Bryan Cranston is in it.
Hey, who needs Godzilla? The MARINES are here! Right?
Godzilla 2014 is Better Than King Kong 2005?
The most honest, constructive criticism of this movie that I've seen. I agree with James here, this movie suffered from misplaced focus and blue ballsing the audience about Godzilla. However, he doesn't destroy buildings 'cause that's not his focus, and rubber suits would've helped a lot (they could've done a mix like in the third Narnia). Everything about Godzilla himself is brilliant, but I agree that a morning setting would've worked really well, just like on the cover of the film.
"Does any franchise now keep their theme anymore?"
Literally the biggest franchise out there
But in all seriousness, nice review, I personally love the movie
@@HOTD108_ star wars
Star Wars a good example. Any other game and/or movie franchises?
This is EXACTLY how I felt about the movie.
I actually loved the skydiving scene, best part of the movie in my opinion
So glad that the early reactions for Godzilla King Of The Monsters are pretty positive, possibly a lot better than 2014 one.
I literally screamed "just fight already!" in the theaters every time they cut the fights lol.
As a strong fan of both the original trilogy and this film, you got this right and I hope Legendary and Warner Bros. are listening. GODZILLA:KING OF THE MONSTERS IN 303 DAYS!!!
It's ok to officially say that this movie despite a few epic moments was no good and was a bore. Michael Dougherty got it right and I can say that in confidence. The human parts may not be the best but KOTM will be the better film overall and that's just plain fact based on what's already been seen
The Halo jump scene is like half an hour or more after the boy is rejoined with his family
The best installment of the Godzilla reboot.
Problem is they're treating these movies like horror/monster movies rather than kaiju/calamity/monster movies. They don't know the difference.
Godzilla's not the kind of monster than sneaks up behind you, says "boo" then scurries off. But they're treating him that way.
Your version is actually amazing! Wish that's what they went with, good review!
True, you should check out the original '94 script by Terry Rossio and Ted Elliott.
Was that gonna be the movie with the Gryphon?
Godzilla4951
Yep
Henry Stanley Yeah, but then 4 years later we got... you know
Godzilla4951 Yeah, Jan de Bont should've remained director.
"There are actually things about the Tristar that it does better..."
Like what? Give godzilla extra minute of screen time?
The pacing and the fantastic raptor effects.
@@raaaaaaaaaam496 You're describing the jurassic park movie
It was more fan. At least I don't fall asleep like 2014.
There are franchises that still keep their original theme. Star Wars, Star Trek, Doctor Who, Jurrasic Park, Hawaii 50, The Amazing Spider-Man 2 kept playing the classic theme. Even the Ninja Turtles movie, and the show. Indiana Jones 4. Sure, some of them change artists, but the themes are the same.
I always thought Roland Emmerich's Godzilla was pretty good
said noone ever
Its a kids film... And as a kid i enjoyed the spit out of it. I remember i went to at least 5 birthday parties where Godzilla was shown. And i still enjoy it...
It ain't Godzilla.. Its Zilla.
I actually like that film while it is stupid it is also somewhat entertaining.
I always felt like the film would have been better if they didn't call it Godzilla and also not have it so darn dark! It was so hard to see anything in that film.
It is actually a good film, it is not the Godzilla that fans know, but who cares. Mathew Broderick acts surprisingly well to lol. That's alot of fish, plse yes because no one would say that in that situation. Come on don't kid yourselves people say shit like that. Did it need to be in the film? No, was it a bad thing? No, so who cares.
what are your thoughts on the new godzilla film 2019? trailer just came out
TimeOut Retro i actually think it's a huge improvement.
I really hope that King Kong gets to throw Godzilla in the upcoming movie.
It'll look *real* nice on the big screen - just Godzilla flying through the air and smashing right into buildings.
Godzilla 2014 isn't a stinking villain he doesn't hate humans he saved them in some of the old Godzilla movies but this Godzilla is a hero
For bad as it is, the 1998 remake is more fun and entertaining than the 2014 film.
hey james, you should make a godzilla movie with toho or get the rights to do your own film.
I hope in the Godzilla sequel,he gets more screen time and we actually SEE him fight Rodan,Mothra, and King Ghidorah throughout the entire movie....not just at the end!
It's more likely he'll team up with Rodan & Mothra.
It's already been confirmed it's more like KSI
Wanted more Bryan Cranston and less Godzilla lol
even better, plot twist, Cranston's character ends up mutating into Godzilla himself... best of both worlds
mju34 Id watch it
Why?!?!
Give him a hat and glasses and I'm in.
Would have to rename the movie Cranzilla
If you think about the darkness in the way that this is a picture of absolutely powerless mankind versus pure and absolute power of nature that need no light to exist......
I would pay to watch your version
This Godzilla is a bi-pedal Stegosaurus, not quite like Godzilla. MUTOs are generic as hell, they can't even bother giving them a proper name. They can name every other monster, but some how not a "MUTO", sure use the term a few times, but then make a decision!! 1998 was not a bad Godzilla, honestly both 2014 and KOTM take some things from 1998 which is pretty funny (nesting/METRIC FUCK TON OF HELICOPTERS). I do enjoy KOTM more than 2014, it was so much better but again, cutting away, night time for 90%, constant travel giving me jet lag... oh well. 2014 is in the bottom rungs, and KOTM is up higher in the ranking. I do know who I am rooting for in Kong vs Godzilla, and it isn't a bi-pedal Stegosaurus.
"I didn't know who he was. He seems to be most famous from TV."
That's adorable.
umm ok? Whats that supposed to mean?
I saw Godzilla 2014 at Haar's Drive-in theater and I was sorely disappointed every time Godzilla appeared they cut away. The final battle at the end was too dark and I could barely see anything. I hope the sequels in 2019 and 2020 do better.
I really, REALLY hate when everyone says that G'14 is bad because of how little Godzilla is featured in the movie, but then you look back at films such as Jaws and Alien, and those films were great successes for THE SAME REASON that people don't like Godzilla 2014. How hypocritical. It's this generation nowadays. So focused on the destruction scenes instead of what's going on around the monsters. This Godzilla movie isn't like other Godzilla movies. When James said that Godzilla should've been causing more destruction, that COMPLETELY contradicted what he said about him being a force of nature. A force of nature doesn't cause destruction intentionally, it just destroys whatever's unlucky enough to be in it's way.
Godzilla destroys whatever invade his territory , but what james wants is godzilla throwing a fit
Max Carroll you know what those movies has that Godzilla 2014 didn't have? Characters you actually gave a damn about. that's the beauty of creature features like Jaws,Alien/ Aliens, Tremors, Jurassic Park & even John Carpenter's The Thing, the human characters are just as interesting as the monsters themselves. This movie had no interesting or compelling characters outside of Bryan Cranston, once he left the movie we are stuck with nobody to root for or like.
2D- Punk they just needed to keep cranston and show more of the Honolulu fight from the human perspective . Honestly i would not change anything else
Immagine if it would've been a father-son ride 'till the very end. And the Honolulu fight was set up so well, i was almost crying. But then that tv shows up up instead of Godzilla big-ass tail. Good movie anyway. They'll do better.
Different movies have different issues; it is not hypocritical to think that things should be done differently in different movies. Alien was a damn horror movie; why the fuck should it even be compared to this monster movie? Jaws is in a similar boat; it's a completely different type of movie.
Okay, I admit. 2014 is arguably better in my opinion, but I will agree 1998 did some things arguably better than the newer one.
Nope. Sorry. I still love this movie. I love the tone and to see Godzilla back on the big screen and fighting brand new monsters was such a treat. I thought the characters were ok, but much better than a lot of the other human characters in other Godzilla movies. Yeah, Godzilla isn't in the movie much but the MUTOs kept me entertained until then. I overall love the movie
Ralph Astarita if you enjoy it then you are one of the most patient individuals on the face of the planet. I commend you for that, although I don't like the movie.
The human centric story is the only problem. Godzilla should've been in the film from the start. With that being said, the film was fantastic. Most of these complaints seem like nitpicks, and not fair criticisms of the film itself.
I normally would agree that practical effects beat CG, but the problem with Godzilla movies is SCALE. A rubber suit never looks to scale for something like a Godzilla monster battle :(
I love how the film takes its sweet time setting up Godzilla's arrival, so when he does, it's goosebumps ahoy. I think killing off Bryan Cranston's character was a mistake, he should've carried the whole thing through to the end, which would have tied in with his quest for redemption too. But Godzilla's whole San Francisco stint was breathtaking. Even his introduction in Hawaii, with the waves and the blackout, was brilliant. I get why some parts of the story bug people, but I feel that everything about the big guy himself was beautiful, especially that he was called "Savior of our city".
Soooo, James for the next Godzilla movie? I'd vote for that.
Well this incarnation of Godzilla himself does not concerned about destroying buildings instead he hunts mutos
The complaint about Godzilla's mouth being similar to a T. Rex's can be explained as the filmmakers making both creatures reminiscent of reptiles. Just Google a picture of the inside of a lizard's mouth and compare it to that of Godzilla's and you'll see what I mean.
I cannot agree with your rubber suit argument. I'm sorry but you can never beat the best CGI with the best rubber suits. there needs to be A LOT of mechanical parts to even be close.
That the opposite in reality, the best rubber suit look better then the best cgi.
It might have LOOKED better as a suit but the movements and momentum of a suit is so terrifically campy and unrealistic looking for the size of what Godzilla is supposed to be. It was okay for the campy versus films because they were not serious films. Not for this. Fuck off with this suit shit.
Unrealistic ?
Yeah sure a 100 meter dinoseaur like creature is really realistic.
MrSafior how do you even compare a rubber suit to millions of dollars of CGI???
justsomerando _ ask op then, he's the one saying there needs to be multiple mechanics for suits to hold up to cgi
For Godzilla 2, the writer has given us his word that Godzilla will have copious amounts of more screen time than this film. So, when that film comes out, that'll be one less thing to nit-pick.
I've never agreed with a review more. James completely nails it with his insightful review.
I'm one of the biggest Godzilla fans you'll see, my entire chanel is based off Godzilla and I just got back from a Godzilla convention. But I'm also a modern day film fan and I realize that Godzilla has to grow, evolve on order to love on in this day. James was expecting the originals when I was expecting innovation. He's not wrong but he's also not right, he expected something it was never setting out to be.
Most modern films at best are overrated. There hasn't been a really great movie in over 16 years! Films like Ghostbusthers,Psycho,The Evil Dead, and The Karate Kid will out last their remakes. I don't think I'll see a modern movie being put in the National Film Archive ever! At best they are popcorn films. You pay your money then forget you even saw them a month down the road. Warner Brothers Godzilla 2014 just shows that they don't get the character. Also the film only making 530 million shows that there isn't much of a market world wide for giant monster movies! I don't think Godzilla 2014 will over take any thing that Toho has done or will do. As for you being a big Godzilla fan. One of the requirements to being a real fan is to have seen all the Japanese cuts of the films more than once.
I own nearly all of the films on DVD a d VHS and have over 100 Bandai Japan, Sh Monster arts, and X plus figures. But clearly they did understand the character because they made Godzilla more Godzilla like then Shin did. And there have been so many great movies just within the past 5 years. Night crawler and Prisoners are great and both star Jake Gyllenhaal. Godzilla as I said needs to evolve to survive in modern times. Also I know this is over 9 months old, sorry but I didn't see your comment until checking the video again.

Great video. That being said I disagree with literally everything he's saying... absolutely everything!!!
For all the monster fans who want to know where the bomb blast at 1:47 came from, its called "Operation Crossroads: Baker" look it up on RUclips its a nuclear test film.
that halo jump is one of the best scenes of the movie.
I wish that i can go back in time and tell tri star to name the movie something different then people will like the 1998 movie because i happend to like the 98 movie. I don't care what people care
I mean i don't care what people say
CoralFailure they should have made it a remake of a beast from 20 000 fathoms
heavytom89 good idea
I really liked this movie, but holy shit, your suggestions would have made it so much better. Noice.
what could've been interesting was to see Cranston's character argue with Sarezawa over whether they should kill Godzilla or not.
I don't compare Legendary Godzilla to Toho or TriStar Godzilla: I compare it to "Pacific Rim," a film that (for my sensibilities) captures the pacing, the cheesiness, and the fun of the old Godzilla films far more than anything else released in the last twenty years (kind of like the way "The Incredibles" was a better Fantastic Four movie than ALL of the Fantastic Four movies).
why don't you just email Legendary Pictures and tell them what you think?
Alberto Arras Oh you seriously think that going work? Nope
I'll get a lot of hate, but i'll say it: I preferred the TriStar one!
Cool bro
Is anyone else kind of dissapointed that James didn't know who Bryan Cranston was?
More like surprised. How does anybody alive today not know who Bryan Cranston is?!
Nope.
Guess he's never seen Trumbo. Brilliant performance!
Someone should knock on his door.
No
Bryan Cranston is a really funny guy , his portrayal of Hal in Malcolm in the Middle was classic.
Faltiere Ornalock Definately , he really did a great job as Walter White.
look up "bryan cranston mic drop"
Dudes got crazy range! Hal- Heisenberg.
Man! You are going to get so much hate for the role you don't mention there!
yhea you're right man
The skydiving scene is beautiful imo. I like the film just fine, I understand the frustration with fans though. I don't disagree, but I really do enjoy the film, I watch it often
I loved it.
SparkZ1420 To be honest, if only it’s didn’t as much humans it would have be better then great. Such as it kinda lets you down after seeing 2 hours worth of humans.
@@jrisawesomeuwu6880 I had no issues with the humans. You can't have an origins type movie without explanation lol. What, is Godzilla gonna just explain to us what's going on? lol I loved the realism of the entire movie. The tone it set. How Godzilla had to battle to restore balance, etc.
Same here.
I agree man I'll admit I usually get at someones neck when they bitch about no Godzilla time that's all people do is bitch but in this movie I agree he didn't have much screen time but still I don't let it bother me I still enjoyed this movie when he did appear I got nothing but chills. I agree with the T Rex jaw features by the way.
I think the biggest issue with the soldier story is that Cranston's role really worked because he was obsessed with Godzilla, he needed to know the monsters existed, that the past incidents were monster attacks. The human story was completely linked with the monster story, but once it moves onto the son, all he wants to do is get to his family and he doesn't really care about the monsters at all aside from surviving them. That's why I feel Pacific Rim works, call it cheesy or silly but at least the story and characters were uniquely written around the premise of giant monsters.
He was obsessed with the MUTOs not Godzilla.
Cranston plays a really good obsessed character
I really think Bryan Cranston's obsessed character really worked as well. As soon as they killed him off, I felt like I was watching a different movie. I agree with you on everything you said. I dunno about "Pacific RIM" though, I saw it in theaters and I thought it was only okay, maybe because it was all CGI and the fights become tiring after a while. Maybe in my mind I think the humans are so stupid for making all these giant robots but never thought of making a big gun to go with the robots! lol think about it, they were always fist fights but a gun would finish them off! lol I will watch Pacific RIM again soon and see if I liked it better and let you know!
Funny you would say that, because I think Guillermo Del Torro should direct the the new Godzilla vs King Kong and/or the other Legendary Godzilla movie that's said to have Rodan, Mothra, and King Ghidora. Because in Pacific Rim we had plenty of time with the human characters and got to know them, and when the Giant Robot vs Giant Monster action came, it was showed to us and it was awesome, kinda like what you said. Also why I'm saying this and if you guys didn't know, Gareth Edwards isn't doing anymore Godzilla projects.
Absolutely true Travis
it's fine to focus on humans if they're not bland as crap
EXACTLY, couldnt agree more! Thats what most fanboys seem to ignore
in case you didnt know, the Japanese movies are mostly focused on the humans so your comment is irrelevant.
***** you beat me to it XD
Totally agree. What's up with Hollywood keep picking more and more generic athletic beefcake Mr. America as the protagonist of movies. I hate to say but the main guy in this movie makes me appreciate Jai Courtney and Channing Tatum. I thought Hollywood cannot possibly find more generic meat head than Jai Courtney already is, I was conclusively proven wrong. Do these interchangeable beefcake make good money for Hollywood or some kind of false feedback loop is going on among Hollywood executive circles? My suspicion is the later. But in any case, right now, I am rather curious how generic Hollywood can go when it comes to picking plain Jane and plain Joe for their movies
@@dufftheduff7335 no they're not
I feel like Kong Skull Island followed your advice, Me personally I thought it was an entretaining monster movie and a really good time
Perhaps the 2019 Godzilla sequel will as well. If Godzilla 2014 was the ONLY Godzilla movie they were making, I'd understand that people would be mad about Godzilla's screen time. But, since we've got a sequel coming out, I'm more forgiving of the 2014 film.
@@christophersteve427 Just a few days left for the Godzilla sequel. Lots of monster fighting in this one
agreed, I had more fun watching Kong Skull Island than 2014 Godzilla. There's thousands of monsters and yet they keep the right focus on Kong unlike Godzilla films.
Watched the Godzilla KotM twice, not gonna lie, my expectations are already so high and it still exceed mine.
My only problem is, it felt like the movie have 2 climax scene. Feels kind of weird tbh.
o boy
After KOTM, I have so much more respect for this film.
KOTM is a far far better movie than Godzilla 2014. Are you high?
Godzilla king of the monsters makes 2014 look like citizen Kane, completely agree with you
@@RedRaptor7Are you 5?
I personally did not enjoy this movie and was honestly quite bored. Haha, I have a few friends that LOVED it, though!
Anyway, thanks for the re-review, James!
hi rabbit :) are you going to be in another video with the gaijin gamers soon?
futuredirector999
I'm not sure! Maybe, if they invite me to record something with them. :3
me too , yet everyone around me love it while i was wondering where are you godzilla and why am i watching an military movie? I remember taking out my phone and checking the tix often and wondering dammit, are you sure this is godzilla the movie and not CoD the movie featuring big ass moth?
kyotheman69
I'm sort of in your camp. Sometimes monster movies are entertaining for me, but then there are certain films where I just never find myself really becoming immersed in everything unfolding on screen. This movie wasn't necessarily bad, but I didn't feel engaged. *shrug*
l cy
Haha, you really aren't a fan of Godzilla, are you? XD
The one thing they did about this is that they really captured the feel of making Godzilla feel like a godlike being
U forgot one thing James. The one thing that fucked up both Godzilla and Jurassic World... The romance. Romance should not exist in these type of movies, ever!!!!!!!!! Take away the romance, the girlfriend and any children, and already the movie is a shit ton better.
Didn't they had romance in some toho godzilla movies?
Here's a better question, do u truly remember those romance scenes, cus personally I don't. I don't wanna say no cus I might be wrong lol.
Christopher Corral I remember theres romance.but i remember me imiganing myself body slamming mothra as godzilla.
Exactly, if there is romance in any of the Toho Godzilla movies, I don't for the life of me remember them. Probably because they didn't focus on them. We had main characters and a couple with a kid in Godzilla 2000, and we knew who they were, we remember who they were, and see??? Godzilla 2000 is just a wayyyyy better film than The Legendary Godzilla film! Americans have this problem where they have to have some big names in films, and they have to be the stars of the movie... Why??? Nobody cares about the human characters, if ur a fan of Godzilla, u wanna see Giant Monsters fighting! And if ur not a Godzilla fan, then get out of the theatre, cus u will not appreciate the film in any way shape or form anyways! Pacific Rim was awsome! And the Americans should've had that film in the back of their minds. But OMG what's their problem!!! Next thing u know they're gana have Ben Affleck and Niki Minaj come out as a couple in Godzilla and Michael Bay's gana direct it, and cus it's Michael Bay (Who is the biggest shit stain God farted out, that has this huge crush on Megan Fox), he's gana cast Megan Fox, n ur gana see 79% of her, 19% of the couple and 2% of the Monsters... I know that's awful to say, but that's how bad Hollywood is when it comes to taking something we love and then they smash it and drown it and make it so mainstream, full of advertisements it's just not even good anymore.
Fuck you, Jurassic world was great.
Pretty funny even Bryan Cranston himself admitted later killing his character was a very very very bad narrative choice.
killing bryan cranstons character before the end is always a bad idea :P
he is the one who knocks, he is the one who kills godzilla lol
How about a CGI RUBBER SUIT!!!!
uhhh Godzilla Resurgence is the answer
Or just a rubber suit with a little bit if cg
+Snot Nose The Goblin Normal I'm with that, but the 2014 CG Godzilla looks way better then the new suit being used which seems abit stiff, of course this is based only on the trailer scenes I've seen
+Snot Nose The Goblin FANBOYZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ
only old people and powers rangers fans like the suit. It look absolutely hideous.
Nice video as always James :)
Sorry but i hate James Rolfe
I wish you could direct Godzilla 2 ( even though I still like the first one). You would be a great director for it.
Oh please no, we get a fucking rubber suit Godzilla XD
+vmiki888 or he makes it like the smb episode of the avgn
No he wouldn`t. You just a stupid fan boy, and he just a couch critic.
If you want to see what that would look like, look no further than the AVGN movie.
+Xristos AC who pissed in your Cheerios today?
How the heck did you not know Bryan Cranston? He's been like the most acclaimed actor around for years. Though I was truly dissappointed when his character suddenly died partway through the movie, he was the biggest draw.
He's already said that he doesn't know of any of his roles in TV, and that's where he's popular, not really in movies.
the most acclaimed actor? he's good but come on m8
I'm 100% certain you haven't seen half the movies James has. There are millions of shows and films out there no one has seen, so him not knowing Bryan Cranston isn't shocking. Don't worry though, since it doesn't affect you in any way. lol
He is mainly a tv actor and people who don't watch tv series wouldn't know him.
I still dont get the hype of bryan
Oh boy, here come the 'you must be 13! whaaa' insults. Honey, I'm 31 and probably have seen more than you have. There's nothing wrong with not seeing a movie or series, even if it's popular. I know lots of people who have never seen Star Wars and don't even know the character's names. There's no reason to get upset because someone hasn't seen a show or know an actor, despite the fact that we live in a vast world with endless tv series/films. Sorry, but not everyone is going to know or care about Cranston. And James does have a life outside RUclips with his friends and Family.
Peter Jackson's King Kong was done perfectly. Although CG, it gave me the feels big time
I like that movie
It has Andy Serkis the master of motion capture suits
King went ice skating in that one……
King Kong 2005 was trash.
Problem with that film is it feels like it's 8 hours long 🤷🏻♀️
As a CGI-hater i have to admit: whenever Godzilla had a cameo in his own movie his CGI was breathtaking. 2014 Godzilla is easily the best non-background CGI i've ever seen. 'course - that only goes for the mostly-absent title character; the MUTOs look like a leftover from the early 2000s. Probably the reason they get so much screentime; their CGI must've been a hell of a lot cheaper or faster.
if you want to see amazing cgi then go see dawn of the planet of the apes shit story but the cgi is godly
Transformers also has fantastic CGI. They're shit movies, but they look great.
I can't help but feel like James will prefer Godzilla resurgence simply because it's Japanese.
Also, the whole "cutting away from the fight" thing happened a grand total of twice. It's a complaint that's completely overblown.
The last time they meet up, the battle essentially makes up the last half hour of the film
That's different. Literally every Godzilla film does that
But it feels like it seems actually good godzilla movie.
I wouldn't say that he overblown it, it builded up onto the fight between kaiju and then just cutted away, having to sit through more human scenes, like there hasn't been enough already.
lets not forget the in movie tv broadcast that shows Godzill and the mutos fighting. talk about a slap in the face.
Jurassic Park's T. Rex roar scene was done with practical effects.
I think he was referring to Godzilla not the t rex.
Just re-watched the video. he never said the T Rex was cgi.
He's talking about the style of the mouth and jaws. He's not talking about how the effect was done.
This thread is moot. His point is so many "lizard" type monsters in movies, since Jurassic Park, have that jaws opening, roar scene.
That was his WHOLE point.
Yeah, that. He was just saying about how the open jawed roar is way overdone. Godzilla never really roared like that before
Godzilla is portrayed as a hero in this one, which is why he's not wantonly destructive. Even the scene where he blocks the missiles from hitting the bridge deliberately paints him as protective even though it appears coincidental
Someone should let James Direct A Godzilla movie
He would want full on suitmation and the studios won't accept that so no
Covenantkilla Oh ZING! Moron without an answer proves themselves a moron.
+Covenantkilla just ignore him
Eh, I prefer any version of Gozilla over a guy in a suit. Rather it be animatronics, miniatures, or cgi. And that right there is where James would draw the line.
+Jack Mills
What's the problem with that?
They should hire you to direct a Godzilla film!
Despite his good intentions I don't think that's actually gonna work, just watch the AVGN movie to see what I mean
+BuzzKill Yeah, suppose so...
Maybe not a director, but could certainly work as an adviser.
+Revolsin Yeah, guy's got a lot of ideas and Godzilla knowledge but lacks experience of a proper director. Nevertheless, they need more people like him on the next Godzilla film making team.
+BuzzKill Jurassic Park had the groundbreaking CG, but they don't hold up as well nowadays, and will look worse as tech advances. The practical effects blended with the CGI to make it hold up better than had it just been CG. At least, they did for me.
Isn't it kinda weird hearing about how he doesn't know who Bryan Crayston is
I love these James talks movies videos.
Mike is the one who actually love games James is the movie buff and only plays the character AVGN...
+Julian Ramos He still plays his fair share of games too
+Julian Ramos Mike should split off his gaming stuff to another channel, it's not as interesting.
Liofa he does have a channel where he live streams games
