Brilliant observation. Still their best single, both extremely technically intricate AND so catchy, plus they got an MJ collab outta it. Thought it was rather subversive how they exposed so many ears to the radical sound and BT's production chops. Right time, right place.

no they didn't invent the genre, just one of the earlier and bigger hyperpop artists
100 Gecs definitely popularized and distinguished hyperpop, but SOPHIE, Charli XCX, and AG Cook are credited for creating the genre.
