  • What's a reseller that's been on eBay to do when he's burnt-out from his tie-dye how-to channel? Start making box opening, picking, and reselling videos, of course.
This is the first box we've opened on camera. Does it contain the secret to life, the universe, and everything? Or, did it just cost $42?
I've been reselling on eBay for 26 years and just started cross-posting on Mercari about a month ago. Sourced lots, garage sales, estate sales, and the occasional storage locker are all part of the process.
Thanks to everyone that's watched and subscribed over the past 5 years - and especially to those that stick around as the topic changes from mostly tie dye to reselling, picking, and more!

I think that's pretty cool. It is kind of like a treasure hunt because you don't know exactly what you're getting you just know the basic what the stuff is for. Pretty cool that you're doing it with your son.

Yes - it's like a mystery box; but, it's less chaotic and generally less risk. I'm usually only willing to pay 30% or less for a box than I think I can resell the contents for. Sometimes we end up with far more than expected because of items that were "hidden" in the photos or the photos were too blurry to get a good read. Other times, almost everything is broken or damaged and the entire box is a loss. Thankfully, that's a relatively rare situation.
My 13yo begs to open the boxes as soon as they come in; but, I try to keep it to 1-2 boxes a day so I don't get overwhelmed with opening, cleaning, pricing, photos, listing, etc. My 17yo is interested in some of the electronic boxes - headphones, guitar stuff, etc. so we have tried to only open those boxes when he's home. We'll see if he ends up in any of the videos.

That’s fun. I’m very curious to learn how much you could resell the contents for

Lab type of equipment is insanely expensive new and lots like this can usually be picked up really inexpensive since most people overlook its potential and think it's just a box of metal parts/screws. So, it doesn't take much to make a nice profit - even with stiff discounts when reselling the items.
For lab/tech items - If they're new in package/sealed/etc I usually shoot for 80-90% of retail. If they're open but still in very good condition, I go for 60-80% and if they're visibly used, I go for 25-50%.
