  • On April 18, 2023, the San Manuel Band of Mission Indians will host its 13th Annual Forging Hope Yawa' Awards to celebrate four exemplary nonprofits for their transformative work in the Inland Empire and Indian Country.
Award recipients embody the time-honored Serrano concept of Yawa' - "to act on one's beliefs" -- by making a significant impact to the communities they serve. San Manuel will honor these organizations in four philanthropic areas - education, healthcare, essential services, and empowering Indigenous communities.
The 2023 Forging Hope recipients are:
    • Academy for Grassroots Organizations (AcademyGO) is an independent nonprofit management support organization working to strengthen community organizations and their leaders in the Inland Empire.
    • Casa Colina Hospital and Centers for Healthcare for providing specialized medical, surgical, rehabilitative care, as well as a broad range of outpatient services to the Inland Empire.
    • California Indian Museum and Cultural Center (CIMCC) for educating the public about the history, cultures, and contemporary life of California Indians, honoring their contributions and place in the state's cultural fabric.
    • Walking Shield for working to improve the quality of life for Native American families through shelter, healthcare, community support, humanitarian aid, and educational assistance.
