It was a love/hate engine. Nicknamed the nine o nothing. With a turbo they became the VT-903. They were quite, got decent fuel mileage. They were a high RPM engine, 2600 RPMs with a direct 13 speed or a direct 10 speed. They ran like hell, but a major overhaul wouldn't last
The most convincing argument to getting a VT903.....super quiet in a cab over that is not exactly known for its sound suppression.
as long as you can find(well parts for one) one that isn't straight piped. looked at 20 trucks(with 903) and they are all straight piped.
