Hey! I’m a somewhat beginner pianist. I’ve been playing for about a year, but didn’t start taking it seriously until the last 4 months or so. I’m a guitarist who wants to make the switch to piano primarily. How often do you think I should practice per day? And what kinds of things are the most important for beginners to work on? I’m already drilling scales and pieces in Micheal Aaron’s piano method books. But what are things you’d suggest? Thanks.

Never stop in the long run, take breaks and time to rest and don’t injure yourself, you only have two hands and 10 fingers so keep it that way!!! Start by making a good regimen for yourself, theory is important and never neglect the left hand. Start by way pieces and never practice with mistakes. Slow practice is key. I’m no professor but I know this has worked for me. Don’t think about the technical aspect too much, you’ll get lost trying to be perfect but won’t be creating beautiful music. Music isn’t about technique, technique is used to amplify the beauty and emotions of what the composer had in mind. Think about your hand and how to always breathe and stay relaxed. If something hurts or is discomforting stop immediately and come back later. Enjoy music you’re playing until you can force yourself to learn things to help you grow. There is a lot of easy pieces for growing and understanding. And remember, never neglect sight reading!!! Someone might ask you to play something easy but you can’t sight read , it’s embarrassing trust me 😂. Good studies and be careful

30 minutes a day is probably enough for beginners. But, if you had free time though, feel free to play as long as you want until you're bored. The more consistent you are during every single minutes of your practice determines whether your practice sessions will come useful or not.
If you're wondering though, i practiced around 1-2 hours a day in my free time. Usually, in the work days i don't even bother to touch the keys whether it's before or after work (except if it's weekend / holiday ahead). Remember, if you're tired, just take a rest. No one is forcing you, and when it's time to practice give it your best.
