- Ever wondered what first class on the Qatar A380 is like? Join me and let’s find out together as I fly from Sydney Australian to Doha in First Class on Qatar Airways.
Qatar Airways have a well-founded reputation as offering the best business class in the sky. They even boast that their Q-Suite is First in Business.
So does Qatar Airways even need a First Class? And is Qatar First Class worth the extra cost considering Qatar Business Class is so good?
With these questions in mind I didn’t hesitate when given the chance to upgrade from Business to First when checking-in on a recent Qatar flight on the A380. Especially as this was a 14 hour flight - the perfect opportunity to really check out Qatar’s First Class and compare it to my recent flight on Air France La Premiere.
The other reason I wanted to try it is because Qatar only offers real first class on one aircraft type - the iconic double decker Airbus A380, the world’s biggest passenger aircraft. Qatar First Class is therefore not only exclusive but it is also elusive with only 10 A380s in their fleet.

The only thing more impressive than the first class experience is Dennis’ ability to put away such a variety and quantity of booze without falling over!
and surprisingly I don't drink that much when I'm not flying. Just want to make sure I try everything so you get the full experience on the video :)

Thanks Dennis for taking us along on this First Class flight. It probably be the closest I will get to flying first class and it was delight to see the benefits awarded on this flight. I doubt I would pay the extra given the Business Class product is so good, but with unlimited funds I would love to give it a try. A fantastic video, thanks for sharing.

As I exiting the Qatar A380 from my lowly cattle class seat (although I had been lucky enough to get a whole row if four seats to myself on a two-thirds empty flight!) I asked the air crew if I could have a look upstairs in first class. They happily let me and wow, it's lovely. Got a great look around. My, how the 1% live.

FABULOUS video Dennis! WOW 🤩 I thought the Qatar Airways Q-Suite was blingy but the First Class on the Airbus A380 looked even better! As if that’s even possible on Qatar! I hit the 👍 button the second I heard you say “I’ve just upgraded to First Class on the Iconic A380!” 😊

Flew Qatar 1st class Sydney to Barcelona a couple of years ago using Qantas points. Was a fantastic experience. In the 1st class lounge at Doha for 12 hours there is a private “hotel “ for long layovers. The customer care is unrivalled. Would love to fly with them again but QFF points availability is non-existent and we cannot afford a revenue flight 😢. Thanks for bringing back memories of that flight 😊.

We love seeing your wonderful flight reviews - they're always great. We have been so fortunate to have travelled first class (Etihad) on an A380 long haul flight and agree if you can ever do it, you should. We are booked to do this again (Emirates) in March/April 2023 and can't wait. It is truly a once in a lifetime type of experience. And experiencing a shower on a flight is truly living in the clouds. Brilliant. I didn't think they could improve on the Q Suite, but this seems worth the extra cost for those who can afford it. It's been too long since I flew Qatar Airways. I miss the mint lemonade and the Dana Al Fardan boarding music 🎶💜 🇶🇦

Great video Dennis! I’m flying QR in March and can’t wait. Btw there is now a fast track security line at SYD near where the old express path used to be. Surely you could have got into the QF lounge (as a OWE too), though? Or had it closed by that time?

Thoroughly enjoyed watching that, Dennis. You’re absolutely correct, there remains a need and desire for First. I’m trying to book flights to Montreal for October, in First, and it’s not to be had unless I want to transfer through the USA (thanks, but no). I can only hope that it’ll become available as Lufthansa return some more A346 to routes. One small detail, as a Scot and lover of our National beverage… Glenmorangie is pronounced just as in the fruit ‘orange’ [Glenm’orange’ie] 😂

Not sure if it has changed now, but I also took up the option to upgrade (as per emailed) to Business Class Qatar FRA-SYD - only to discover that this does not give you lounge access!! Thought that was a bit cheap. Otherwise, flying Qsuites is a whole experience.

Great video! my wife and I recently flew back in 1st class on the A380 from Sydney to London. It's definitely so much better than their BC and with nobody else in the cabin, privacy definitely wasn't an issue

I have flown the Qatar A380 First class a few times now on the long haul from Sydney to London. Absolutely love it! The only fault I had was sleeping way too long, and not making the most of it haha.
Same here. I slept a LOT (more than most flights) due to the awesome QR F comfort, but a mimosa with breakfast didn't hurt ;)

Great video - but one thing to note: despite Qatar's preference for you to use the Air NZ lounge, you were also entitled to access the Qantas First lounge through oneworld Class of Service access rules.
We would like to see reviews of other lounges, too, though. 🙂

In Hong Kong, Finnair boarding pass invites you to use Plaza Premium Lounge instead of CX lounge. Unless you know airline industry and one world privilege, we could be fooled by it. 🤣
we used the Qantas lounge when we flew Sydney to London in 1st recently, so much better :)
Dennis is Qantas WP so he would absolutely had access. Sometimes its good to get into other lounges especially when you have been in the same place for years.

Dennis, the main reason Qatar switches to Air NZ or Marhaba lounges is mainly due to the opening hours of the Qantas lounge may not align up with the QR departure post Covid; although relationship between QF and QR doesn’t seem going well as you mentioned.
Love your vids Dennis, Note sure if I have missed it in previous ones though, why do you touch the plane on entering ? Is it a good luck thing ?
As someone who has spent their entire life travelling in cattle class, first class seems but a distant dream for me. Maybe one day!
Btw I prefer the Emirates First Class from previous videos. Seems more intimate to me, more space.

That bar area on their A380's is as good as it gets & the best reason NOT to pay extra for first-class - after all - it's a shared area.
It really is all downhill after experiencing their A380's in business/first-class.
Taking this flight in early March! SYD-DOH in F. Can't wait! I’ll be hitting up the QF F lounge first tho (which you had access to!)
Update: Flight SYD-DOH in F on Mar 11 was outstanding. Loved the Australian influence on the menu, and the Ares Shiraz you mentioned! QF F lounge particularly awesome, also.

Hi Dennis, thanks for another excellent review , especially after the hiatus of the past two years. Regrettably, Qatar only flies the B 777 from Melbourne to Doha, so no bar visits scheduled for May, but first class is on the cards for a future planned Cairo trip via Doha in September. Great review as always Dennis. Interesting that the seat is so open. No privacy really to speak of. Also looks like the Qantas or Air France 1st class seat. I would prefer the Etihad, Emirates, or Singapore first class seat, with a closing door.
I have been watching your videos for some time and I am wondering what type of camera you use for filming.
Great video (as usual) Hope we can have the opportunity to do the same next time we fly Doha-Bangkok. This year we opted out of Qatar on our move from Sweden to Thailand in favor of Thai airway (the first time in over ten years) Stupid choice that we regretted a lot. Next longer trip we will come back to Qatar airway which is our first choice They have always been a pleasure to travel with them both privately and on business trips.
Qatar have a few ex-Cathay 777's which feature a First class cabin and service as well.
