Yeah it sounds plausible and I have been looking into doing it myself. You may need a h bridge rectifier and magnets (depending on the motor type). Do you know how to create a alternator to create an endless power supply for it. And how much torque can a washer motor have? Also jw how much weight can a washer motor carry if hooked up to some Wheels
Hi there all great questions I will be doing a video on making a wind turbine in the future. To do that you would need to add magnets to the motor. This will also increase the amount of torque you can get from the motor. Due to the change to DC the torque would be quite low. As for how much weight each motor is different so I can't answer that. That said I've seen a few people who have connected these to wheels and made little go-karts. Good luck

Yes.it was actually a fairly new samsung washer/dryer combo. It looked brand new.I didnt even know they made a washer that also dried after the wash cycle without even opening the door. Hello, I don’t know anything about electric motors. Do anybody know if the motor spins just as fast one powerful as it was originally at home with more volts?
If you are asking about the torque (the amount the motor can turn) then the 12v version has much less power but can turn the same speeds (with no load). You can increase the torque by changing the motor slightly by adding magnets. I hope this helps
Hi after watching your video, I immediately went out and got my washing machine motor to spin, from a 24v AC source. Spinning fine and was so pleased. @@TheOffGridFamily exactly the same as the 24v supply. Had about 5 coil wires though. Played around connecting 1 to brush and the other to brush and coil. Was running perfectly. Even wired a switch to reverse it. But was able to stop the rotation easily, which is why I upped the voltage to 240.

Fab isn't it 😄 it proves I'm a good RUclipsr lol
Could you use say a 24v or 36v 10ah battery for better longevity and less bulky if say putting on a bike
I would have thought so. You will need to try and see the results. Just be careful not to burn the motor out
Hi thanks for the info, I was wondering if one could connect the motor directly to a solar panel.
Yeah you could but if you connect it through a voltage regulator then you'd get a much more stable rotation speed. Otherwise it would fluctuate
great video. I have. question, whats happen if the motor not have the brush? Thanks a lot
Hey there. This will only work for universal motors. You can get any motor working but you may need to do it with different parts or in different ways
would the same information apply to the motor from a dryer ?
I'm not sure, It would stand to reason they are the same type of motor but I cant be 100%
check the wiring and this might tell you if it is universal. If you need any help or want me to have a look at some photos to see if I can help then send me an email: TheOffGridFamily@gmail.com
good luck
Looking forward to the wind turbine
Hopefully it won't be to long. I have a few bits to build first though. Thanks for the encouragement
How do rpm and torque stand compared to 220v ac?
I have wanted to do various tests but I just haven't had the time. If you ever test it yourself I'd really appreciate it if you'd post your findings here
I have a question can you use a AC DC universal adapter too.I want a washing machine motor like you have
DO you mean an adapter you plug into an outlet and it converts it from Ac to Dc 12v?
Excellent video!! Have subscribed!!! I can't find any more of your videos using the motor? I would love to know what kind of speed controller is needed to run one at varying speeds. I have an electric tricyle project planned! Keep up the good work.
Hey Jem. Thanks so much. There are no more videos (yet) it's something I have wanted to do many times but something always gets in the way. I will try and do a video all about their application in the near future for you. Welcome to the family ☺️
@@TheOffGridFamily wish I was younger and had the skills to do what you’re doing. Good of you to share the knowledge. We all need to be reusing big time. 👊🏼
Don't let age stop you. I have my days where I cannot do anything and others where I can be productive. We are at a wonderful time of knowledge. RUclips has a tutorial on anything and everything. If you ever need any help doing the tricycle just ask. I will always help if I can.
Hello, what the left over wire for. Can we plug in direct if we don't have battery? With same connection u have shown.
Not sure which wire you mean as it's been ages since I did this sorry but yeah connect this to 12v adapter and it should work fine just be careful
Interesting, I assumed your washing machines run on induction motors like ours here in the states so I thought how is he running an ACIM on DC? helps to read words inside parentheses I guess
I'm looking for something in a different direction; I'd like to repurpose a washine machine engine into a generator to store power on a 12V battery. Any tips? I'm looking for something akin to a hand-crank generator that can charge a battery. Or better yet; a stationary bicycle I can ride that I can use to generate and store power onto a 12v battery. Does that sound plausible?
Yeah it sounds plausible and I have been looking into doing it myself. You may need a h bridge rectifier and magnets (depending on the motor type). Just test the motor before doing anything because you may need to add some gears to increase the rotation etc. If you need any help just message or email me
@@TheOffGridFamily Thanks so much for your reply you've helped me feel confident about the feasibility. Now I know it's possible. I found the motor I salvaged on the internet

What do you do with the extra coil wear and a two grounds
Hi there, if you want to email me a few pictures and describe your issues I can take a look and try to help. My email is theoffgridfamily@gmail.com
Hello ! I like your explanation about that matter. But , will the motor run if i use 10 v dc ? Thanks .
Hey there. I'm not sure. I would have thought so just much slower but to be 100% sure you would have to try. Sorry I can't be more help. Good luck
Good luck
King!
Thanks buddy 😊
Hi could you help i want to use 2 washing machine motors to run a gocart how whould 1 a pick the right controller and b ad a charger for the batterys. Cheers
Hey Oliver, I'd love to be able to help you but I wouldn't know where to start. There are too many variables. If I was you I would sort what type of motors you are going to use them I'd choose the batteries and then from there the rest should be sort of straight forward. Sorry for not being much help
Here 3 years later 😂❤
Thank you. Have youever come across the round washing machine motor. Its a big round wheel looking thing, brushless i believe?
I'm not sure, I have taken a load of washing machines apart. If it's from newer machines then probably not.
Yes.it was actually a fairly new samsung washer/dryer combo. It looked brand new.I didnt even know they made a washer that also dried after the wash cycle without even opening the door. Apparantly they are rubbish however, when trying to fix it i came across a lot of complaints about them...expensive too. Cool motor though.
That's why I haven't seen one. I only get access to the oldest of the old. Eventually I'm sure I will get my hands on one though 🙂
@@TheOffGridFamily you never know, i was just driving along and happened to see it sitting by a dumpster, i collect motors so i stopped. I was very surprised to find that type of motor in it.
Hi a really easy to follow video is it possible to show how to speed control that motor watts/amp's it will use as l plan to use it for a trike I'm building please
Thanks for the kind comment. I have wanted to do a video like that for a while I just can't seem to find the time. I will get round to it eventually but I can't say when
Hi, I am subscribed and I am wondering if a 12V battery will work on 195V electric motor from washing machine.
Hi there buddy. Firstly welcome to the family 😄 sadly I don't know an answer to your question. I'd say to try and see. It's worth giving it a go. Sorry I couldn't be more help
connect d 2 windings in series, i get that (even they have different
What is the voltage of the motor you started with? I'm thinking it's probably 220v. I would like to try this with a 120vac motor but am unsure if my idea is a non-starter.
Yeah it's 220v but I have heard of others doing similar with 120v. So it's worth a try. Good luck
@@TheOffGridFamily
Thanks for the quick response. I guess I'll spend some more time on RUclips to see if anyone has presented their results. Interestingly Google keeps telling me about you and other 220v users even when my search term specifically calls out 120v.
@@stanleynelson5102 yeah it's a pain when you are looking for a specific piece of information in a pool if similar but different information. I wish you luck in your search my friend

Welcome to the family :)
How would you turn this motor into a water pump?
There are many different types of pumps but tbh I'd try different ways to make one than using this type of motor. Although it is possible and fairly easy there are much easier methods. Would a ram pump work for what you need?
Hi great video. Can you please tell me what direction the motor spins?
Cheers.
The direction depends on which way you wire it up. Swap around the positive and negative for the opposite direction. Good luck
@@TheOffGridFamily thank you so much

What's the one left over?
@The Off Grid Family : Greetings fellow Englishman. I wish to ask. I recently won a Electricity Generator motor in an Auction. It is a single PHASE 50 HZ and generates power 3.6 klw @1500 Rpm. It is an Excitation Generator.. I have looked into it and turns out i would need the exact Excitation control unit specifically for the unit. IS there a way to by pass it? Or can it be manually excited? Many thanks in advance. All the best -
Hello there, I am sure there is something that can be done but its above my knowledge base. However I have a friend who basically is a genius when it comes to that sort of thing. I will contact him and see what he thinks. Stay safe buddy

How to slow the speed of the motor? Is there an rpm control?
There are many ways of making s DC motor run faster, slower, forward and backwards. Just Google DC motor controller. There is loads of different types or you can look into building one with an Arduino.
A oui j’oubliai je ve m’en servir comme moteur sur mon tout petit voilier merci encore
can you put a fan blade on one of them?
Yeah you can.
But not much grunt, so having been told it was universal, I put the same connections to mains voltage, and now it has stopped working altogether. Is that the end of my motor....so pi**ed off now. I dont know how you can reply.
Did you just wire it directly to the mains electric?
@@TheOffGridFamily exactly the same as the 24v supply. Had about 5 coil wires though. Played around connecting 1 to brush and the other to brush and coil. Was running perfectly. Even wired a switch to reverse it. But was able to stop the rotation easily, which is why I upped the voltage to 240.
@@chrisburnham53 Id guess you have burned something out. Be so careful when playing with mains voltage. Other than that I dont know what to say to help. sorry
@@TheOffGridFamily so how can I test the windings. Could there be a safety cut out?
Question, how long would the battery last on constant use using the motor approximately, also how many amp in the motor
Hi Dean. It all depends on what motor and what battery. I made this a while back and can't remember any of the specs for the motor sorry
@@TheOffGridFamily its OK, just an average guess should be fine as I'm trying to use old washing machine to convert bicycle to Ebike, if I can cover an hour use or just 10 mins etc
@@deanlong8012 it will vary so much depending on what motor you use and what battery. I'd run some tests with the batteries you plan on using and the motor you will convert. I am working on an evoke at the moment but not got any videos out about it yet. hey ive got a washing machine motor and its got 5 black wires and 1 thats like yellow with green plus i cant see from where they're going since all of them are in the same direction. is there any way i could send you a pic of it? ( im using a siemens motor if that helps lol )

Ahh nice...., but how does that change the power and speed...two very crucial bits of info if the motors are to be useful at all.
Do you know how it would behave with a drill battery
What voltage? If it's 12v then it should work fine
