    Synopsis
This series looks at the narcotics scene in Baltimore through the eyes of law enforcers as well as the drug dealers and users. Other facets of the city that are explored in the series are the government and bureaucracy, schools, and the news media. The show was created by former police reporter David Simon, who also wrote many of the episodes.

The ethos of the whole show. "All the pieces matter." And if Frank revisits this series after he's completed, he's going to catch SO MUCH that he didn't even realize at first, which makes the rewatch even better than the first time going around.

Yea, but he broke the eggs instead of reporting her to stringer I think also. He thought that was enough justice as opposed to what they might do. Not sure if that's definite but it's how I always took it.

Bruh not only is McNulty (Dominic West) British, but he plays Prince Charles (now King Charles) in the last 2 seasons of the Crown. Basically the poshest role you can do 😆

That’s freaking wild. It always blows my mind when I find out these actors are British with thick British accents.

Alba was stone-cold dead-on, would fool any American. West was just a little off, maybe 5 or 10%, but not bad at all.

This is just from DVD commentary, but it’s notable that the scene where Avon visits the pit is a stylistic exception. The Wire normally only has music if it’s occurring in the environment. After the first season they leave even that little bit of “tv stuff” behind.

There was a retrospective documentary podcast I listened to recently. In which I learned that after *every* season they didn’t know if they were going to be renewed. Makes the commitment to long form even more impressive, I think.

      @sigzil1985 5 дней назад +4

That's interesting. It reflects the way the show works in some ways. These guys wanted to show the world how Baltimore really is, and they were willing to wade through the nightmare that is the TV industry to do it despite low ratings and complaining execs making it really difficult, just like Daniels and McNulty being willing to fight everyone to get their case going. Its all worth it in the end because you have something real to be proud of.

Its not that Rawles and company are dumb. The system is broken around them. Not that theyre good people or anything but they gotta produce the stats. They dont they get fired. Having a detail like this uses up a large amount of budget and theyll only going to ever get a handfull of arrests. Meanwile the murder stats drop because one of his best detectives isnt solving homicides. Even if they get the rop guys nothing changes. A new crew comes in. So from their perspective, whats the point? Its better to just focus on thier career because thats what their bosses are doing and thats what the politicians are doing. So its either play the game or get fired.

7:49: "Show me the son of a bitch who can fix this police department, I'll give back half my overtime."
This is Detective Ed Norris, played by the real-life (at the time) Baltimore State Police Superintendent Ed Norris. Norris was eventually convicted of federal corruption and tax charges and did prison time. He's now a fairly popular radio host and commentator. Norris will show up throughout the show, more often than not griping about the poor health of the police department.

Sad to hear about the corruption…. Having said that, I love how they use real police and dealers in the cast, so.

Just found an interview from the creator of The Wire with Obama on youtube called: "Obama Talks "The Wire" With David Simon".
Btw. Omar is Obama's favourite character 🙂

Wallace taking care of all those kids always breaks and warms my heart at the same time. Its a weird effect I love that he does everything for them, but damn no kid should have to have all that responsibility

  • @carladavis1473

You seen too think they Brandon was killed as a way to get to omar because he was family or a loved one. That was NOT the reason but a bonus. The reason was because he Brandon robbed Avon. He was pointed out for being the robber.
No one is targeting anyone's family to get at them. they have rules. Yes a family member could catch a stray from being in their presence but no one is seeking out girlfriends and kids. Again this is not a Hollywood fabrication, like power or Ozark, or breaking bad which are all good but this is grounded in reality. Crews did not put hits on the innocent. At least not back then and not in bmore. I understand not bring omar around McNulty kids, they don't need to be around that but you don't understand omarb if you think he would hurt those kids.

I was also blown away when I found out McNulty was a Brit. Not just his accent, but everything about his character screams American, without overdoing it. There is a later episode where he does a bad British accent. That further convinced me he was American.

D'Angelo broke the eggs and took the groceries. Think back to what Stringer said, He told D to watch them (runners in the pit) and don't worry about the begging workers but whoever ain't wanting and need that's the one. And go back and listen to when the Wire first came on the was talking about D and not getting paid. Like Freeman said All the pieces matter, All the dialogue in the show matters.

  • @BruceJohnson-om5kl

Pay attention, Omar know. He named them, Stinkum, Wee Bey, Bird. Remember downtown at the Greece's playing Pinball. Wee Bey had the handcuffs.
