It has been too long since Boo went cruising so we hopped on Carnivals' latest acquisition the Luminosa. We watched a handful of videos on this older ship and not many enjoyed the decor, the bars, the layout... Let's see how bad it really is.
I just got back Thursday and loved it.
Just got back last week - no complaints!
We are going this week...same ship..it has taken us 3 yrs to get here. Rescheduled due to Covid...Amen we are going!!
Oh how exciting! So glad you were able to get that cruise! We feel your pain with the pandemic delays. What a mess that was! How was your trip! Did they get the toilet issue fixed finally? Were you able to see any of the shows?
First cruise was sept 2023 to the nassau. Second cruise is scheduled for sept 2024 to alaska on the luminosa.
We enjoyed spendjng time in our cabin. Cannot wait to spend time on the balcony and napling in a clamshell

hi, deb from tasmania Australia:) great video :) we are booked to go on the luminosa here in australia to the great barrier reef (tropical queensland) on a 7 night cruise in december 2025 :) were really excited about it :) we have never cruised carnival before, only P&O aus, virgin voyages and RCCL, so eager to try carnival :) then in 2026 we do our first princess cruise on a 2 night cruise on the crown princess :)
My first Carnival cruise was on The original Mardi Gras,just to give you an idea how long i have been cruising,way before all the high technology...and let me tell you something,It was 1000 times way better,i am a Diamond member..and the garbage they serve now,i seldom eat in the main dining rooms..You used to have special Indian chefs that prepared delicious Indian food,seafood included,you had rack of lamb,whole Maine lobsters,8-10 different types of French cheeses on the platter,Caesar salad made at the table,you were allowed to take as much wine,booze,beer,soda on board..ship had 700 passengers.i feel sorry for you young folks,you will never know what living was all about...Thanks for the video,i will be sailing on it in June with my 3 youngest grand kids.
We are taking our first Alaskan cruise in August. We got back, two weeks ago from our first to Mexico.
I really enjoyed this vlog. You two cracked me up and it was just so natural and unrehearsed. What month did you travel? What was the name of your whale watch tour? Was the breaded fish worth it Boo? Who are you voting for? Wait! Strike that last question, I got carried away.

Thank you so much for subscribing! Preparation was key. Would have saved me $14 colored pencils from the gift shop if I would have prepared a little. You will have an amazing time at each port! Alaska is grand and we can't wait to go back.

To all the naysayers of the Luminosa, you picked the wrong ship.
You want all the FUN ship things and a more modern ship like those that sail in Caribbean.
We like her, end of subject. She suits our requirements. Very easy to get around. All the main things are on decks 2,3,9 & 10 almost everywhere else are staterooms.
Yes the corridors are narrow, but that little bit of extra room is in your cabins. the gym junkies get the best view, don’t appreciate it because they are too busy looking at their pad in front of them.
Should be a card table area, relaxed seating and coffee shop. It’s never full, but it’s alternative would be!!
As regards the buffet with lukewarm food. We were on it March sailing down under, we never had a problem, must be a different crew.

Some of us seasoned cruisers are used to, and expect, better service, food, and room to move. This is a terrible ship and carnival needs to make appropriate changes. Telling folks to go elsewhere if they don't like it is rude....we already went, so unless YOU want to refund those unhappy cruisers.. well, u can guess the rest.
@@cheryllassonde8080 have you put your complaints to Carnival, not just by way of the survey?
If your personal experience was far less than you expected, then a phone call or something in writing to the appropriate person or department, should garner a response. Nothing will be done or addressed if they are not told.
The ship that was supposed be scheduled for down under and Alaska for the summer season, was the Costa Magica an older ship by 6yrs, however she was sold whilst in dry dock, as a result the Luminosa did not gets its full time for rebranding or anything else. It is not the ships fault, it’s Carnivals, who are trying to recoup the almighty $$$ after Covid.
It is unfortunate that you did not have a good experience and yes it can be many things that all add up to a very unhappy holiday. We have all had them, apparently from your response, the Luminosa was yours. We sailed on her with an open mind, no high expectations having done my research before booking and knowing all of the above, just because it’s Carnival all ships are different and one should never assume anything. Same with cars, you may like one brand but not all the models.
I know many people who only sail on a particular ship with a particular cruise line. I am a seasoned cruiser, cruised many different lines in my lifetime. Wish you all the best with getting your grievances addressed.
Of all the Spirit Class Carnival ships we found Luminosa to be our favorite. The other ships in this class (the Legend, the Miracle, Pride and the Spirit) just can't compare.
Completely agree that it was very easy to get around, the rooms were comfortable, those huge decks were great, corridors were not too narrow, and the Lido windows were amazing. The buffet was not a huge disappointment as the dining room food was so outstanding. Every ship has its quirks, we were not dismayed by Luminosas.
I have no doubt though that it did not meet the expectations of a cruiser that has been on 23 different cruises. It exceeded my expectations (5 cruises) but that was because my previous Alaska ship, the Splendor, was so bad.

Yes! I wish I would have packed a few more 'luxury' items but my "only take one bag" stubbornness got the better of me. We hope to go back next year and I will be properly outfitted lol

Where did you get those fish and chips in Skagway? I must have those when I go there.
The seven day looks much better than the six. Our stops were way too short, like four hours. Plus no Skagway. Also the first two nights were extremely rough sailing. People were sick everywhere, until they decided to turn back to the inside passage. Too late for the pools & hot tubs, they lost almost all their water.
My goodness! Starting vacation with extreme waves could ruin some folks. Seasick patches are our friend! We had rough seas but nothing that intense! I agree about the seven day. I was on the six day the year before and the four hour ports were impossible. Never again!

Going in end of July. Seemed you found it colder than expected? The sea sickness - are patches or pills best? Iv never used.
When I cruised to Alaska the year before it was 81 degrees so I did assume it was going to be warm. We like to pack minimally on trips, but we saw folks with 6 to 10 suitcases and I expect they had cold and warm weather outfits. For us the patches have been best. They do not make us drowsy and last 72 hours. This time though they just didn't stick well. We should have gotten some extras 🙂The open sea parts can get rowdy so I would suggest at the very least taking a pill the night before open sea days. Enjoy your trip!

Just go off yesterday...23 cruises and rhis one i couldnt wait ti get off... big failure on Carnivals part. Too many issues to even start.
What a bummer Cheryl, so sad to read. I feel that way about the Splendor. Never again lol.

Great video you two. I am on this ship next week. Did the toilet issue in your room get fix right away? I have seen multiple complaints about this now and the luke warm food at the buffet among other things. Hoping the weather is a tad bit warmer....
Thank you Ronda! We found out that all the toilets on the starboard side of the ship were actually out but it only lasted about 30 minutes. We will definitely go again but will not be eating at the buffet. The staff was fantastic but definitely overworked. Order EVERYTHING you want for dinner when you first meet your wait staff... drinks, butter, anything... as it may be the only time they can get to your table. Have a great time!!

Completely agree Richard! The windows on the lido were fantastic. We will hop on the Luminosa and I will never step on Splendor again 🙂
