- 1985 was a great year for Karate and fighting fans. The way of the exploding fist kicked and punched its way onto home systems ZX Spectrum, C64 and Amstrad but which one packed the biggest punch?
This game also includes a look at the game credited with its inspiration. Karate Champ which hit the arcade in 1984
Great memories of first seeing Exploding fist on my friends c64 for first time. For me the animation on the c64 should be smoother with its hardware sprite capability. This was shown with the later International Katate, that showed how it could be done on the c64. Not to to mention the fantastic IK+, which probably one of the best C64 games.
Yeah they were both fantastic, the C64 version was definitely clunky. Playability wise, I think the spectrum did the best job
Speccy suffers from the colour clash syndrome. But its def. Playable.
C64 is great, wins on the sound, graphics and two player joystick mode.
Amstrad is almost identical to C64 in terms of graphics, but lacks the sound that makes the C64 better.
All 3 versions were worth their cost in terms of what you got. Seem to recall Crash gave speccy version high score, CU/Zzap same, and probably Amstrad User too. So in that sense there are no winners, just different computer versions.
This was my first time playing the Amstrad so probably had a bit of bias against it as played a lot of the Spectrum and C64 versions back in the day. I always try to judge spectrum on how good the conversion is as its always likely to fall behind due to the colour limitations.
theres an official bbc version too.
Yes I have never played that version and unfortunately don't have access to it
