Yes it’s still heavily done in the Tongan culture a lot more even to this day. It will always be for the guy to come and ask the girl. Just the same way it should be to meet the parents for the first time and ask permission to the parents. Especially the father to go on a day with their daughter. Unfortunately it’s not done a lot these days. And guys get scared going through this process. But if she’s worth it then, you go through the fire and back for them. They won’t understand fully until they become a husband and a father themselves.
