Nice pistol. Really good shape. My Colt Commander digests every round I feed it and shoots minute of center mass! Steel is for real..

I carry a 1911 made in 1981. A great piece. Pull that out and you mean business. Big, heavy, and hard hitting.

During the 1950s to 1990, this was the gun to have for CCW until Glock 19 introduced in 1988 became available in some numbers. The S&W 39 and Browning Hi Power were close competitors but Glock "broke the glass."

It should also be noted that on the earlier versions, the inside top of the slide is machined out more, also adding to the additional lighter weight. Mine manufactured in '68 has this feature and at some point this was discontinued as a friends LW slide is not milled out the same way.

I take issue with your dates of production; Colt was making light weight commanders into the 1980s at least. I worked for a Colt distributor in California.

I have a Colt Commander in my collection of 1911s, but it is not the lightweight. I would like to get an aluminum frame Commander size pistol. The steel frame Commander is really not much lighter than the Government Model.
When I carry a 1911, it is usually one of my 2 aluminum frame Kimber "Ultra II" models
