It's lots of fun to customize XFCE any way you want. I'm amazed at what you can do with this desktop. It may not be KDE, but it still has a lot of flexibility! Thanks for a great video!
Very good video.
I would add 2 things that I always do for xfce
If you use keyboard shortcuts it's ctrl+alt+t for terminal
But you can edit shortcut in keyboard settings and modify it to
xfce4-terminal --drop-down
It's quite fancy xfce terminal that slides from top of the screen
Second thing
Add new shortcut and bind it to super key
And the command is
xfce4-popup-whiskermenu
Whisker menu will show after super (or any other you like) key press
Hey J M, thanks for tip! Great suggestion!
Thanks yet again for moving us from the shadows of xfce and making it more attractive
Years of using XFCE and I still learn a lot of things in this video. Thanks a lot!
Thanks for the feedback and for watching!
Better learn arch
Great video and all the explanations is crystal clear. Thank you sir.
Clean, and as Archlinux is, keep it simple ;) Thanks ! Hug from France
I've learned so many new things from this video. Thanks!
Xfce is a good DE,but I am honestly in love with Manjaro Kde. I will be rolling until my laptop dies.
They are both indeed great DE's :)
The best explanation of Linux in web top man
Thanks! I really appreciate that!
Amen!
Thanks to your explanation of the base install of Arch, I am now running it with XFCE on an older Macbook (2011). Enjoying it very much so far, I might stay on Arch for now!
Glad it helped!
btw
I have one suggestion, since I struggled a while to solve the issue: After switching to Whisker Menu my Super key (Win key) didn't open the menu any more. The fix is quite easy: open settings -> keyboard -> shortcuts, enter the command "xfce4-popup-whiskermenu" and bind it to the Super key.
Thanks for sharing!
Kde and xfce the two kings of the customization.
I agree. but honestly I think xfce takes the lead
@@infelicitas Please explain why you think so. I am deciding between XFCE and KDE.
@@YEETlCUS Xfce is a great DE for customization but Plasma also have a built-in customization system connected to the KDE store, open the Plasma control panel and you will see will see it. For me Plasma is the most customizable DE.
@@elascaelasca8154 same here. even hase more potential
Thx man!! I just couldn't install gnome-system-tools :/
Such an excellent video! Very professional and informative. Thank you, subbed!
Thanks for the sub!
Thank you for all these interesting videos. Even if I use Arch Linux since 2014, I have learned a lot of things I did not know
thank you for this video
The 1st app I install is guake, drop down terminal. Then push F12 to get a terminal :)
Nice video, picked up some customizing ideas, Xfce is perfect for my Thinkpad 420
Great! XFCE is indeed a great DE. I really enjoyed making this video :)
Amazing, how your follower demands that you show when you finish configuring everything by entering the files, opening the browser, showing the menu. By way of reviewing the endings, you understand me.
Thank you for sharing your knowledge !
Thanks! And thank you for watching!
Ermanno, pls what is your favorite terminal emulator for Arch Linux?
Probably Termite:)
Excellent! Is it possible to customize GRUB without breaking it? I share PC with my younger brother and he gets confused on how to boot Windows so I was thinking about replacing the text with images to make it easier. I've seen some options but I would like to hear your opinion first.
Hi thanks! That's a good idea, I haven't looked into that yet, but I know it's possible.
Check for package grub-customizer
Nice video ..btw what os u install on your main machine?
Arch Linux :)
@@eflinux and what desktop u use everything can u please tell me if u don't mind
@@eflinux xfce?
I used KDE for a while, now. Using Gnome. I'll try something else in 2021 :)
How I customize XFCE. All kinds of ways, like you, But I begin with a real distro... I think it's called debbyum or something like that ?? Ian ??/ He sang for Deep Purple right ? I'm old
I gotta say over 25 years I've ran all that ever existed. XFCE has zero competition....other than Openbox.Openbox is killer but ya reaaly gotta be able to hack.... a little(.config) Gnomer, KDisasterE.Garbagewarez. Gnome 40 is great for having an Android experience on a desktop ! What a useless piece of shit. I put Niagara on my android phone to rid it of the virus look !
Mate is still really, really decent like Gnome 2 was but it still aint no XFCE.
Cinnamon is a great one too for new to Linuxers..Put it on gramps machine and he's back in business in 30 minutes..but it aint no XFCE either. A little supertuning and XFCE is the best of the best. Why do you think those MX guys chose it over everything else out there ?
I think they did a KDE now ? Bed wetting mommy boys need happiness too ;-)
can you help if I enter yay -s gnome-system-tools this error comes up ==> ERROR: Error downloading from ftp://--ftp.gnome.org/pub/GNOME/sources/liboobs/3.0/liboobs- 3.0.0.tar.bz2
Break off ...
error downloading sources: liboobs
Great video as always! What do you think about Fedora Silverblue (?)
Hi thanks! Silverblue has definitely many advantages, I personally like the concept. We'll see how it will evolve :)
Now the question nobody can answer, how to get rid of BOTH xfce dektop panels from startup (no xfce4-panel -q from terminal once its already on).
very nice tutorial thank you! Keep up the good job! :-)
Thanks for the feedback! Glad you liked it!
tyvm, you helped me alot, im doing a nord theme on kali linux!
Thank you Friend!
it looks now much better.
My pleasure!
I need help, Where is the Trash Can? T~T Last time I had it.. dunno how but I need it now T~T
You should be able to display it if you go to the desktop settings.
@@eflinux I did but it didn't work, it's not even in the File manager,
but I tried to add the trash applet on my panel and when I clicked it, it said FAILED TO CONNECT TO THE TRASH.
GDBus.Error:org.gtk.GDBus.UnmappedGError.Quark._g_2dio_2derror_2dquark.Code15:
Operation not supported
Maybe reinstalling the desktop packages might help.
@@eflinux Sir, Sorry to disturb you again...
umm.. I installed Arch linux again but The trash is still no where to be found.
And by the way i also saw in this video that you also don't have a TRASH CAN. I tried to read the forums and ask people, but they were no help...
but Last time when I had arch, I also had the Trash Can. I dunno how and where it came from, but first it was missing but this time it's not appearing.
And It's showing error when I click the widget of Trash on the panel☹️
I really to know how it works cause I wanna stick with only one Distro. And Arch is great. but not getting thr Trash can And Also I am unable to install Broadcom Wifi driver in my Arch, and Broadcom is installed in my HP laptop.
But How to install on Arch I dunno about it. and I couldn't find how to install Wifi DRIVER on arch ☹️
So, for the trash can, install the gvfs package and reboot. For the Broadcom driver you can install broadcom-wl.
Can you make a video about integrating i3wm on XFCE?
Very very usuful chanel for linux users thx great man we look for more usuful and goods from urs
Hey thanks for the support!
I keep getting "No such file or directory: 'rsync' " when searching for mirrors. Is there a step I missed? Or did I not create a file path for it?
It means rsync is not installed. This changed after months I did the video. Just install rsync and it should work.
You just did I great job here. Thank you !
please help. xfce4 is very slow in alpine linux.. i followed your alpine video
Great video. I have a question. Does XFCE grab all the needed xorg dependancies? I see people installing full xorg before their DE.
Hey thanks! No, you don’t have to. I do it to make things more simple in the video, and with time by installing other apps, other dependencies might get installed anyway.
Thank you so much .. It is better deepin or xfce
very useful video. thanks
Hi , i install perfectly but when the login screen come and i try to write my password i cant on my keyboard its still using us layout but i want to use trq layout and i search this thing but i cant find a solution can you help me ?
In the Desktop Environment you need to set the layout in the system settings. If you mean in the terminal before the installation, you probably didn't specify the layout in the vconsole.conf file. It'll be something like 'sudo echo "KEYMAP=trq" >> /etc/vconsole.conf'
this was amazing!
thank you so much!
Fantastic! thanks much.
How do you change colors of a theme
Another GREAT video!
Thank you Jake! And thanks for being on the live stream :)
Good job for the nice work, that really helped me!
Glad it helped!
Gracias por el video. sugerencia que la letra este mas grande ya que no se ve claro. gracias buen dia. Me fue de gran ayuda.
gracias por tu sugerencia!
You are a Rock Star at instructional videos. One of the very best.
Thanks!
Hello! Thanks to your guide I made my day a little lighter! But I've got an issue where the lock screen is still xcfe and not LightDM greeter :/ and I don't know how to fix that :C
I don't understand. How do you mean the Lock Screen? Lightdm is not a Lock Screen, it is a display manager.
@@eflinux I am sorry, still big newbie here. I meant that if you log out, you have so nice looking login screen and that's what I meant, my bad. I have just login screen where I can choose between DE and Language. I could send imgur or something, to show you what I meant. Sorry for trouble :C
I am talking about 16:55 moment ^^' If my explanations are unclear
I see, no worries. If you install the lighdm-gtk-greeter-settings package, you will have the choice in the settings to customise it with a wallpaper and more.
I installed package but I think it doesn't save anything or I did something wrong ;_; mine "logout" screen looks like this imgur.com/a/lue7x7F
thanks bro, i know all the diferences between all these appearance menus now🤓
is the -light-gtk-greeter-settings mandatory ?
No, just the gtk-greeter, but without the settings package you won't be able to customize it.
While installing the gnome user manager, I can't install because it throws "wrong password" error 🤣
Similarly I have with Numix, after downloading everything it throws an error when installing ...
That’s odd, do you have the same password for the root user?
@@eflinux No, it's different. I will switch to Manjaro, so far arch has defeated me :)
Never give up :)
@@eflinux I will not give up, I will probably try in some time, but I have to prepare, make a list of packages needed for the installation to have more or less what I need :)
Let me know if I can help further!
Your install guide saved my tail. Thank you so much !
Здравствуйте! Скажите пожалуйста.. как вы считаете хфсе будет развиваться не забросят его? Слышал говорят оно устаревшее
I honestly don't know.
brilliant video!
Excellent.
Thank you so much 👍
Awesome video sir
Thanks!
Thank you so much helped me a lot
*Amazing as always!* 👌
I just installed the *xfce in arch* and when i plug in a *usb or mobile* device, it doesn't *automatically show up (mount)* as in other distros. So i can exchange the data between devices.
I installed *udisk2* but still don't see the devices.
Kindly guide me.
Thnx a lot 🥰
Thanks for sharing!
@@eflinux kindly guide me through the solution please 😊
You can install gvfs, gvfs-afc and thunar-volman.
@@eflinux Thanks man i did it and got my problem solved...
Thank you :)
No problem!
thanks sir
Excelente video. 🤗
Muchas gracias!
arch is such a beautiful distro
Good. .D
Sir, I am having a serious problem, and that is -
So many languages and fonts are not supporting :( , Like so many.
I am not sure I understand what you mean.
@@eflinux SIR, DON'T WORRY I FOUND WHAT I NEEDED, EVERY LANGUAGES AND FONTS ARE NOW SUPPORTING.
I HAD TO INSTALL A PACKAGE FROM AUR,
"all-repository-fonts"
and I was good to go sir.
Great!
