- In this video I head out into the forest with a massive wind and rain storm quickly approaching. with only an open tarp to sleep under I find level ground to make a suitable campsite to battle the rain. campfire cooking on this wildcamping overnighter with more simple foods to enjoy and the sounds of rain all night long. follow along to see how I managed to enjoy the weather.

We live in a skoolie and this lifestyle is what we do. The rain, lean to and simple comforts are experiences that have to be savored to contrast our soft lives separated from nature. Something about that simple life....

I use to “ruff it”, but Free standing tents are so light, waterproof & bug proof, I just add a tarp for a front porch where I can stand up and it's cozy even in the rain and it protects the fire from heavy rain & snow..
Sometimes its nice to switch it up. I love tents when hiking alot
I love the perspective. I see you sitting under your tarp, can hear the rain, and you say it is not that cold out and there is steam coming from your mouth. Lots of people would be shivering.

A pack or 2 of apple cinnamon oatmeal mixed in pancake batter and fried up is awesome while camping, gives a unique texture and taste to the pancakes or bannock.

Well my self I would have had a small stove + all so I would have had 2 extra tarps +an a pint of spirits. LOL
Such a relaxing feeling watching these videos and the sound of that wonderful rain. I always watch these videos in the evening with a drink for relaxation. I didn't realize wet wood still burns.

I bought some plastic test tubes with screw on lids from amazon. They are perfect for some coffee, creamer, and sugar. 1 tube per cup. Also great for other spices, oils, and countless other things.

That "tarp" sure looks close to a "Whelen Lean (-to)". When I cut and sewed my Whelen, I made its width one more foot wide (I'm 5'6"). I cut up an appropriately-sized aluminized tar from Harbor Freight. It turned out pretty functional and tested well in 25-35 mph winds/rain.

Recommend to leave the gimmicky candle holder at home & add another tarp or a couple of big garbage bags. Plenty of ways to hold the candle with your current gear. One of the cups could be turned upside down and be a base for the candle. The Beer can could hold the candle. A partially split log could hold the candle. Good job taking on a rainy night of camping!

I had my share of widow maker worries during windy nights. Overall I find a tarp shelter drier than a tent and more so during extended outings. A bivy sack helps if the end of the bag gets near the edge of the tarp. Nice video.

I live in Canada and you can have some of our snow. I got locked out of my truck and my house because it's so cold that my locks froze up.

Decore an apple, but leave the bottom. Fill it with oatmeal (steel cut) and brown sugar. Put it in pot to bake or tin foil. Bake over coals. If in a pot there will be juice. Also for your kids you can add a small square of Carmel from Kraft Candy or the Carmel syrup for over cream

A fire shelter is useful in really wet weather. Logs lined up at an angle with some moss on top. Keep the flames small and it's all good.

I do something not too differently but just take one of those waterproof military bivy to get my feet and bag into, made a difference many times during weather sleeping under the tarp. Great video and appreciate ya taking us along!

Good camp...good video. That's what I have always called 'camping weather'. And...DUDE, I have spent many years tarping and harping and I highly recommend, get a few leaf bags out of the garage or shed and a few clothes pins to take along. You can even put a few pebbles in them and pin them on your tarp to hang down and block rain, wind, whatever.

Just taking a break from watching this because I can see the usefulness of using a tarp if you want to make a video. You see the fire and inside the tarp and the lighting is better. But I have to say I really like the feeling of being in a full tent. Less drafty. Holds in the heat.Feel more secure.. even if it might not be in reality. Had to rewind to watch you put the first stick in the knott. Was trying to read the tats on you hand. LOL Another Sub.here
I also enjoy using a tent on certain occasions. The tarps are much more versatile and gives a whole new feeling while camping.

Sometimes I wonder why Indonesian mountain hiker channel prefer to show “ghost” or mystic experiences when they had a night camp in forest rather than focus on camping tips or the way we should survive. As we can see, this channel also did a ‘solo hiking’, spent the whole night alone, but He’s fine, no ghost, no paranormal activities etc.
