The Story of the Porsche 911 3.2 Carrera (G Model)

- The Porsche 911 was about to be cancelled. What sounds unbelievable today was a very real possibility in 1981. Porsche wanted to focus on its transaxle cars like the 924, 944 and 928, since they felt the 911 was an outmoded concept. Thanks to new company boss Peter Schutz, the 911 lived on and he was instrumental in bringing the 3.2 Carrera to life. It followed the 911 SC and regardless of whether it had the 915 or the G50 gearbox, it became a big success and saved the whole 911 range. This is its story.

911 was and is the best porsche around.
Great video. I love my '89. I run it and when something wears out or breaks, I fix it and keep motoring. Great cars and and the community of owners that care for and preserve these cars keep it going.
You're very right, it's part of the appeal
Just bought my first 3.2 so excited unfortunately I know nothing about fixing cars yet
I love the photos and music... brings back that essence feel. Beautiful, timeless classic of this vehicle. I remember seeing this car when I was a kid, still makes me smile. What music is that?
Same for us. I remember seeing one too as a kid and simply had to have one. Driving this one was a dream come true :-)
My first new one was a 1988 - $50 thousand. I thought that was a lot. Just bought a 2022 - almost 200 hundred thousand. 1988 today is at least a hundred thousand.
You get what you pay for!
Sod the cars, nice as they are, that honda RC30 in the background, just wow. :-)
There may well be a film about that one soon ;-) Watch this space.
@@BrightsideMedia just got a sub, can't wait, rode one years ago, up for sale at £6800.00 loved it had bank loan in place, decided to not buy it due to single seat. :-( my god I could kick myself every time I think about it, six thousand miles on it, mint condition. Would be worth, well at least five times as much today, but I would never sell it. I was blown away by how turbine smooth it was compared to my A1 gpz900 which I still love and own. 70mph in first gear, look at a bend and you had completed that turn and on to the next. Awesome bike, legend. Vazza.
Yes ... that RC30 is what caught my eye ...
Muito legal esse vídeo 😍😄👏👏👏🤙🤙👍👍
Nice synth music at 3 minutes, got a link?
This generation of the 911, to me, is the ultimate expression of the 1980's, the ultimate sports car, period. It is also the last of the real, lightweight, manual steering, torsion bar suspension 911's. While the 964 is a much more modern car in feel and performance, it defined the next generation completely
Couldn't have said it better ourselves :-)
I've got a virtually identical 1988 G50. Are the exhaust and headers on the red car standard?
You've got impeccable taste :-) Yes, it's completely standard.
Acho muito bom o centro de gravidade deste motor boxe...
Bravo 😁
Does anyone know what the song is?
4:25 THIS IS SUCH A NEED FOR SPEED PORSCHE VIEW HOLY SHIT!!!
That was such an amazing game. A proper classic! (like the 3.2)
What a f***ing car!
Couldn't have said it better ourselves! :-)
Awesome Porsche 911 Carrera
Forza & GTA style
The Best
There is no substitute ;-)
Why is the driver in the red model always on the wrong side of the road?
Steering wheel is on the wrong side. I would complain it.
Porsh-uh!
Exactly right!
Would be much better without the music..
Tell the Brit that Por sche is a two syabol (sp) word.
No.
Yes.
