I'm also one of those players who has completely neglected Yokai Shift for 99% of their Nioh career, even in the Underworld. This video has really brought me up to speed with Yokai Shift. Thank you, PooferLlama!
Here's a personal tip if you're a Phantom player: get Demonic Defense at rank 3 for 40% less time loss on block as soon as you can. In Yokai Shift you never want to get hit in the first place. Blocking on Feral is pretty bad but dodging is free, blocking on Brute is kinda whatever because you want to use the parry anyway which gives you amrita back. Blocking on Phantom is ABSURDLY GOOD, it's almost better than dodging half the time which is already cheap at 1 sec, which makes it one of the safest Yokai Shifts to use along with the range and nonstop stagger on Charge Strong. The anima generation on spell hit also helps you generate anima really easily in Phantom if you feel like using your regular attacks is too costly.
I guess Im asking randomly but does someone know a tool to get back into an instagram account?? I was stupid forgot the password. I would love any tricks you can give me.
@Fox Kellan thanks so much for your reply. I found the site through google and Im waiting for the hacking stuff atm. Looks like it's gonna take quite some time so I will reply here later with my results.
Here's something that you may not know. If you do the Charged Attack for Phantom, you can throw 2 little daggers afterwards with your strong attack instead of the usual 1.
I just got into Nioh 2 after only small bit of time in the first game years ago and my souls mindset coming into that game and this helped me out a lot, I’ve always loved the ninja gaiden series and played the hell out of it when I was younger so having someone as good as you to learn from in these videos is a blessing because it’s not just use this build or weapon or etc, it’s actually foundations that leads to good skill and player diversity in the future and I’ve learned more from just watching a few videos pure day since the beginning of the playlist, even if I already have a good 10/20 there’s so many basics I missed on that opens up the game more and so many things I’ve missed I wouldn’t have knew like the insta charged yokai shift heavy (aka essence charge in ninja gaiden series :) I love team ninjas references and throwbacks I wish they’d make another ninja gaiden) and how the mechanic works for charging and the yokai abilities being used to help extend Combos build shift and recover ki, all of this turned levels I thought was nightmares into more fun and made me start trying new weapons mid first run since I learned from you that the skills will unlock faster if you have other weapons already with high proficiency, have a good day man sorry for the passage I just love the content and the help into changing this from just a souls like into a enjoyable mixture of ninja gaiden beat ‘em up with some souls foundations and inspirations for levels and management
My main use for it on my ninjutsu build atm is to use Feral, using Felix (my nickname for the ninja cat guardian spirit), and like you said in the video, spamming yokai abilities which stagger enemies in between big ninjutsu casts. Stuff like going Feral, throwing a couple of kunai to generate anima, throwing out my Kasha Beyblade, then using the Hayabusa Fireball jutsu etc. It's so cool how many different uses the form has. I was wary of the change from LW, but after learning to love Yokai Shift it's just so much better.
90% of the time I just forget to yokai shift because I'm too engaged in my weapon skills. Often I die just because I forget to pop it to survive at low health and dish out heavy dmg in my favor. Nioh 2 definitely has toooo many things to consider. yokai guard, yokai shift, stance swap, perfect guard, ki pulse, ki pulse stance switch, changing guardian spirit, guardian spirit unique attack, depleting ki, evading grabs or using specific soulcores that are immune to it, perfect timing on everything, buffing, debuffing, knowing weaknesses and immunities of enemies, a quadrillion weapon, armor, soulcore effects, reforging certain abilities, ultimate stats, weight thresholds, block stat, break, ki dmg, omfg it doesn't stop.
This is a beautiful and fantastic game but yeah there is entirely too much going on. I made it to Kamaitachi and hit a wall where I had to accept that the game simply moves too fast and has far too many combat expectations and character building menus for my capability level. It’s a little mind-blowing how much is in this game. It’s literally like learning how to play an instrument well.
@@faville This is correct, but if you stick with it, you will become one with the force, know each moveset and opening of the enemies, you can bait their grabs and punish them. I play wild hearts right know, and compared to nioh it's 10 times slower... due to the TERRIBLE optimisation, 30fps at 720p with terrible mushy textures on ps5. It's literally unplayable. Therefor enjoy nioh
Thx for the soul cores tip, genuinely had no clue No idea about anything graces yet tho still on first dream But the demon mode one sounds like the one for me
That's just a Revenant transformation. You can purchase it in the Hidden Teahouse for some Glory points. After that, you can go to your Hut and select this transformation.
Phantom just feels counter-intuitive. Its the ranged option yet it’s ability is to teleport into the enemy? Super weird especially since you don’t want to get hit during.
If the enemy is charging at you, you hit triangle and teleport through them. Better than dodging or blocking. In any case, I use phantom like I use a spear: I don't want to get to the enemy's face but I also don't want to stay too far away. It's not exactly a "ranged" option, at least for me. It's more like: teleport into the enemy, do a regular combo, step back, teleport into them and attack again, then at this point my soul core abilities will be charged up and it's party time.
Maybe think of it like Hatchets -- it's mostly meant for melee, like 99% of everything in Nioh, but Hatchets and Phantom augment their melee combat with some ranged stuff.
hey how do i get the ability to swap yokai shift without the shrine? i have all three forms and want to do the swapping like i saw on your video. is it a base game unlock or do i need the dlcs?
Once you get to the dlc(I think it's in the dlc that you unlock it anyway) you will be able to use 2 spirits, one main that has all bonus and one that only gets one bonus from their skills(the list is grayed out except for one). And you can switch between those two at any time and during Yokai shift you change the forms by switching, you will also switch your cores so at that point you can use 6 yokai abilitys, pretty fun stuuf. I think the input for switching os R1 + L2.
One thing the game doesn't tell you, or at least I can't find anywhere it talks about it. But while in yokai shift if you press L1+R1 you absorb more amrita to gain more of your yokai shift
@@MapleFried Thanks, I totally forgot about this. I still don't quite know if this is true; why would ki pulse plus strong attack make you absorb more amria?
@@Confluence358 Not entirely sure, to be honest. It might have something to with Bushido teachings, but I am not even close to knowledgeable enough to go into deeper speculation.
@@MapleFried I tried it and couldn't figure it out. pressing key pulse and strong attack seems to just do the exact same thing as if i just press strong attack. Weird lol, I wonder if there's anything to this.
Hey just wanna get something clarified. Is attacking in yokai form the only way to recharge my soul cores? For example does using onmyo magic spells while having anima bonus onmyo magic hit recharge my soul cores?
I never used yokai shift ability since the beginning of the game and completed 108floors in underworld without using it(except the cut scene required). It just underwhelming, compare to living weapon in nioh 1. In nioh 1, you bacically turn on living weapon end boss within few second include abyss 999 (2boss fight.)
In my experience, yokai shift is actually far crazier than living weapon. living weapon in nioh 1 was grossly overtuned and needed a nerf imho. yokai shift though...can still be absolutely busted XD
