I relied solely on your videos for our massive kitchen remodel in 2020, and I’ve found myself referring back to even more of your content this year while finishing our ENTIRE basement. I cannot tell you how grateful I am for all of the amazing content you have put out there. THANK YOU!!!
I’ve gotta say, out of all the RUclips channels I watch, you are so so good at your job by your work ethic, you’re explanations and advice. You talk to the camera directly like a professional presenter. You don’t use thinking words like ‘ eh’ ‘umm’ and don’t repeatedly use the word ‘like’ , like so many others who can’t think of a word. to use. You have a no nonsense approach that is encouraging. Watching you go about you’re business explaining what and why you’re doing things is like watching a grandfather teach his young grandchildren the ways of life. I am due to retire from my current job in August and Plastering is something I might like to take up. Keep up the great work and videos.
Yeah, Ben is an excellent teacher. It's all the more impressive because the drywall videos on RUclips before his were all just guys showing off with no explanation.
I can't believe I'm sitting here learning how to install a corner bead - but there's a corner in my kitchen that was done VERY poorly and needs to be redone. You're the only drywaller on RUclips who actually makes sense to me. Thanks for your help; I think this will be doable - and yes, I've watched a bunch of your other videos too. It's definitely not a one-step process. :)
You are an inspiration to me. 61 years old and still learning. Keep em coming. Used a 4" knife, your suggestion, for the first time for inside corner work, flat work and outside corner work today. Taping compound, water down, worked like a charm. Thanks.
What I really appreciate is your speaking!!! Very clear! Easy to understand! Good prononciation ! Makes easier to understand the non native speakers! I like your videos! Merci beaucoup au plaisir de voir d'autre videos!!
I hope you get paid well man. Looks like you really enjoy your craft. This isnt even my trade, I’m a floor guy and I love watching your vids. I remodeled the floor plan in my home and had confidence doing it because of the hours of great content from your channel. Drywall has always been a trade that old timers warned me not to do on my own but it turned out great. Keep it up 👍🏼 Very inspiring
you are the least serious, most informative guy out here!!! Keep up the good work. I'm doing repairs in my bathroom and your videos are super helpful. Happy New Year from the other end of Canada,, Quebec. Merci
a professional gets professional results by using the correct product for every step. fast set, taping cement, and topping mud are all very different. well done good videos.
I'm doing a small remodel now and I figured I'd have to do this, just made sense. It's good that you have so many videos, even if some of them might seem redundant or overly specific.
The video that I found most useful so far is the one where you explain the difference between the different muds. Man, that REALLY helped me understand why my mudding wasn't very good. As a homeowner who is just trying to do DIY projects, this type is video is really awesome! Thanks for all your work, sharing your knowledge.
This helps a lot. I never knew anything about quick set was until I started watching your channel. You can just imagine what I went through when I matched it up. LOTS of work.
Great information on this channel. I started using a hawk and trowel thanks to this guy. I did a mud build up and I was worried about putting on a corner bead on top of a build up. This was a good help.
Exactly what I was looking for to finish our basement, we just barely moved into this home and the laundry is unfinished, but we didn’t have any idea on how to finish the corners of the walls, thanks, I’ll subscribe for future renovations. 🙂
I'm watching all of your videos with a keen eye because I'm in the middle of doing my own reno.. I was going to ask if you were slopping confill on there but I was able to see it written on the bag. So much to learn about drywall
Another great video. I wish I saw this before I installed in a similar situation. The one issue that wasn't touched on was that my corner was less than 90 degrees, which made it stick out in a few places. I worked really hard to correct that, by drilling screws through the metal flange. I figure in the future, I would just bend the corner bead to make it tighter. I can't find any videos that address this issue.
Perfect timing. That's just the same situation I'm facing right now! In my case, however, I have an additional complication in that the end of the corner bead doesn't butt up against a ceiling, rather it transitions into an archway. Therefore, I'm trying to figure out how to transition from the end of the replacement corner bead into the archway without leaving a noticeable step or lip as it does so. Comments on how to handle that Ben would be much appreciated!
How do you do a corner bead where one side is new sheet rock and the other side is existing textured and painted sheet rock? Is it necessary to sand down the painted textured side?
Hey man, any advice for work on already textured walls? Maybe a future video idea if the opportunity comes up? Thanks for all the videos man! I can't express how much of an incredible resource you have been!
Is it ok just to replace a small 1 foot section of Cornerbead or should I replace the entire 7 foot run? Is it ok to splice in a new piece of cornerbead to old existing cornerbead?
Hi Ben, great vids, do you have any suggestions on how to patch a wall that is shaped as Arch? What tools I need to use, dry wall tape, and methods. Thanks in Advance!
Great job! I seem to be having trouble getting enough gap where the factory tapered edges meet in the middle. The corner bead is bridging that low spot. Any suggestions?
i never thought I would enjoy videos on drywall but yours are great. Do you have any regarding texturing? I am specifically looking for any tips using canned textures to use on patches.
So this has happened to my freshly dry walled and plastered shower room - one of the walls was original as your demo. This was done professionally. How can I remedy this please?
Hola, la verdad no hablo ingles pero me gusta ver tus videos porque aprendo mucho, pero me gustaria saber que tipo de material fue el que usaste para la esquina, ¿fue la misma perfacinta?
Hi, I find your videos extremely helpful. I am doing a fireplace remodel and I have 4 outside corners with old metal corner bead. On two corners I have to transition from old corner bead at the top of the chase, to new corner bead at the bottom. Of course like in this video there is a lot of mud built up at the metal. So where these two beads meet in the middle- how do I make a nice smooth transition? Thanks
what is the minimum and average high of the ceiling in us and canada in italy new buildings the rooms must have a minimum high of 270 cm bathroom 240 cm
@@vancouvercarpenter So that first step on the old wall is a drywall mud product, I tried to freeze the video and the bag looked like it said concretefill? Thanks
Question unrelated to this video, when skim coating a large area, how do you keep your mud from thickening up from the constant application and removal during the course of the job? I have skim coated many walls and usually just keep thinning the mud with a spray bottle as needed. Seems to work, but wondering how the pro's manage it. Thanks, thoroughly enjoy the videos.
Hey what are you thoughts on the joint compound that comes with the metal/mesh tape, sold in hardwear stores? I kind of want to do your method with the mixing , I've got a lot of nail holes
I Really appreciate all your videos on how to do drywalls, I have learned a lot from watching them. I know that it's an art and require a lot of practice to be able to achieve great result... I'm a real beginner and wanted to start as you showed us but i'm having a bad time using a brand new trowel... it leaves a lot of wave on the wall as I apply the mud... I heard somewhere that to achieve good result with the trowel (other than practice) it needed to be "Weared" or "break" could you show us how to do so? I'd also like to know if there is a way to save a bucket of taping mud in which as been too diluted (thinner) with water. And finally, what do you think about fibafuse tape? Again, thanks a lot for all your excellent videos!
Hey man I’ve been really enjoying watching all your videos can I ask? How would you mud over old wood paneling with the possibility there mite be wall paper on it? Please any advice would be very helpful
Hey ben, love ur videos. I have a question for you. Im installing corner paper bead on a bulkhead but i dont have a piece.long enough for the corner. Can you join 2 paper corner bead ? If you do, do you overlap ? Quick advice please thx
@@ryane6719 5 minute setting compound would barely give you time to get the stuff mixed up and scooped out onto your Hawk before it started to set up. I normally use 45 minute setting compound. If I was in a really big hurry, I might try the 15 or 20 minute stuff or whatever it is. 45 minute setting compound gives you plenty of time to get it mixed up good to the exact consistency that you want and gives you plenty of time to do a decent amount of work with it before your time is up.
Not really. But you will need to make sure that the nose of the bead is a little bit proud of the existing wall or it will look wonky after filling and not coat easily. It's not an easy install to nail on a bead when you need to pull it out 1/4" on one side. It's easy to have the steel bead twisted or not straight. Use a level or straight edge to check it as you install and nail it off.
@@vancouvercarpenter I use a crimper and it takes practice and caring about the end result and the journey to the finish product to have any success with them. Why does it look like you just attached another full layer of sheet rock over the old wall? You could have just cut the sheet rock to meet at the corner perfectly without having to fill in the corner...

Depends. I just mean less water when you mix up a bag of powdered drywall mud.
