I got my record deal AFTER making waves touring the world as the only woman performing with Meat Loaf and Jim Steinman for almost 2 years in support of the release of the original BAT OUT OF HELL album. (1977-78) I sang the duet Dance In My Pants with the amazing rock songwriting icon Jim Steinman on his solo album BAD FOR GOOD (1981) Jim is an absolute riot in that video.
And I am a proud owner of this on vinyl. Great album. I remember seeing you on Letterman. Steinman is one unique wordsmith......Thank you for your music.
How Karla DeVito did not become the greatest rock n roll star of the '80s I will never understand. She had the voice, the beauty, the "it," the dance moves, the sex appeal, and yet she somehow failed to take over the world. She came close but didn't quite do it. I personally will always adore her and her music and thank her for the great joy it has brought me. And I will blame Robbie Benson for there not being ten more KDV albums. Admit it, Robbie. You just didn't want to share her with the world.
Born in 82, I wasn’t exposed to these great 80s quirks. Listening now for the 1st time makes me smile that I’m old fashioned and reliving as much 80s music I can dig up which I skipped. Idk if you needed cable TV to watch MTV but I can tell you I never had that so maybe that’s why.

Is this a cool video, or what? Got turned on to Karla by tho old WIOQ in Philly....Harvey, Helen Leicht and the gang. This entire album was great. Love the Moses Malone reference.....I think the timing of the LP coincided with Moses coming to Philly and the Sixers winning a championship. It was a pretty cool world back then Karla!

I would listen to WIOQ also, living in Central Jersey I could pick up Philly and NYC stations; would watch Flyer games on channel 29 when they won the Cup. Loved that station and their Jocks, Ed Szyocki(RIP, sp) being my favorite on Sunday nights with his Progressive show that stretched to midnight sometimes.
LOVE Jane!!!! We met touring at the same time in 1981. She kindly sang back up with me on my second LP -WAKE 'EM UP IN TOKYO! released on A&M records - on the songs I ROCKED THE BOY - and LITTLE AMERICA.
Wow, i lived through this and never made the connection that she was the chic who sang with Meatloaf. I just thought this was a great video to dance around to and annoy my sister with.
She has one of the most annoying voices from pop ever. And let's face it few people even major fans of the movie even realize or recognize her name as one of the performers of the soundtrack of the movie Breakfast Club. But hey to each their own.b
