I like the fixture you made and used to sharpen the point. Thanks!

I've watched so many turning videos that I now have to find room for a wood lathe. Looks like fun! Nice work...

Just be prepared for the mess, as wood turning makes a huge one. :-)

I like the combo of machine work and wood. This awl is even better than what is sold in my local LeeValley store.

Nice work as always, Dan! I really like the grinder setup using the collet block and the stop rod.

Very interesting jig set up to sharpening the new tool. I like it when someone takes the time to make everything turn out with a sense of pride in their work. Most would have just put it into a drill and went to it on a bench grinder. Very good video.

Very nice look pro 👍👍 anyways why you chose 416 steel instead of common 304.. os it better and sharper ?

I had 416 on hand, so that's why I used it in this project. Generally I prefer 416 to the common 3 series alloys, because it machines substantially better, and you only give up a little corrosion resistance.
This is a good link if you want to look at the maintainability rating (higher is better).

Hi Dan. Good to see you making videos again. One of my best go to channels. EU laws? I thought you were in the USA. either way great video.

I'm in the US, but the company I work for has a global presence. The new GDPR laws required a lot of changes to existing systems and even a few new ones to make sure we were compliant.
