Frog...can you talk about if there are programs that are offered when you get out to help get you on your feet? This is a major issue I feel that can be fixed through reform to help people fresh out get a job and somewhere to live that do not have the option to live with family.
Florida did have something for housing at some point. It happened after I got out my last go around. So after 14. But that program could be dead by now. When I got out they didn’t do nothing but help you sign up for food stamps and help you get the stuff you need to get a ID card.
Those programs are few are far between. And most of them are NOTHING but a money grab. One place I was at in ATL was just a few 2 bedroom apt buildings with 7 people split between those two rooms/apt. And the kicker was that we all were being charged $135/week to be there. They were making $945 from every apt every week. And there were at least 32 apts they had full of us slaves. There was no rehabilitation or help with getting a job for anyone

I asked this question because I have a relative who is serving a long sentence (in Minnesota) and I'm trying to figure out how he's doing his time, and is he doing things voluntarily or not. He was sentenced to +19 years back in 2006 and so far all he has is a GED and a prison laundry job. He said to qualify for work, an inmate has to have a least a GED. He never took the initiative to get that diploma while he was in the streets, and it appears to me that he only has it right now is because of that work assignment and wasn't really motivated to 'better' himself on his own free will. He also said he *recently* applied for a air conditioning course so that he can get a job when he's released in about 3 years or so. As you can see, he's been incarcerated for a long ass time, but with very little accomplishments (in my opinion) to show for it. Does he appear to be motivated or not? Has he been utilizing his time in an effective and substantial way??? This is important for me to know because he has preyed on people before his sentence, and if I can't determine that he's a 'changed' person then I may have to fall back once he is released from prison: I'm not gonna f*ck wit the *same person* from 19 years ago, ya feel me? Thanks again for your input my friend, and I salute you for all the hard work you've been doing!
