"We didn't allow Joe Camel to encourage your kids to smoke cigarettes and we shouldn't allow Star Wars to encourage your kids to gamble." Ouch, indeed.
I'm in the industry. I hate microtransactions. Games are NOT too expensive to make, there is a LOT of fat that can be trimmed to do this better and more efficiently. Loot boxes are gambling, basically. Please keep resisting. The industry needs to change. Art and entertainment needs to be at the forefront. If you don't care about players, please get out of the industry.
with EA it ain't about the dam games it's about their pockets full of money EA does not care for co wrkers nope money but the one who rule EA it's like the devil is inside them waiting for the kid or adult to step into the game store and those EA games are like something demonic it's like this isn't just EA Blizzard or Activision i think there's way more to it then we could possibly imagine
I don't mind microtransactions if: 1) the game is cheap or free, 2) it doesn't create imbalance (ie: pay to win), and 3) it adds value and variety without being necessary to complete the game. EA is the master of having no ethics so they violate #1, #2, and #3 for me. EA is trending in the direction they need to go. There are so many small developers out there that make quality products I never miss any product put out by EA.
"We didn't allow Joe Camel to encourage your kids to smoke cigarettes, and we shouldn't allow Star Wars to encourage your kids to gamble." Holy crap, this comment. Like, this is the shit Disney didn't want. They didn't say "EA encourages kids to gamble". They said Star Wars. That's the last kind of word association Disney wants less than a month out from their next big film release. That's fucking hysterical.
I don’t think EA understands how many gamers want their company complete dissolved. I think they are starting to feel it. I hope they feel they are surrounded by millions of apes with knives out. That’s how they should feel after years of this garbage
Ha ha, EA this is Disney, you gone and really fucked up this time ha ha. We are currently sending Donald and Goofy with bats to break your knees ha ha.
It's a shame because DICE are probably one of the better equipped developers to make a great Star Wars game...just a shame they're EA's bitch and will never get the chance to do that.
Agreed. The world would be a better place if we didn't have all these mega corporations mucking everything up. More monopolies or at least things close to them just makes products suffer in the long run. Hum.... how would things be like if each corporations was only allowed to have so much growth? If the government capped off how big a company could get. Well we probably will never know.
Dice can make great multiplayer games, they have proven it many times. But they have yet to make a great campaign, most of them are not even good but very poor. Def an area they can improve in imo!
The thing is, to me that statement is more or less a 'Think of the Children' moment... its not really true, after all theres still a mostly functional single and large multiplayer game in there... if the game was simply buying lootboxes and opening them then yes his statements right, but its not. But his statement gives a very distorted look at something that isnt nice, but still not at all what hes describing. But hes a politician, shock and ire brings more attention than truth.
@@NZBigfoot Point. However, I'd like to point out casinos offer much more than gambling: nice rooms, good food, excellent entertainment (for both adults and kids), spa serivce, etc. It's just that the gambling is at the heart of their business model and all the services they offer; many of said services are there to increase profit from gambling, such as in-house food and free alcoholic beverages, and many are there to nab a sizable portion of your earnings if you do win. If anything, I'd classify games as different purely because the gambling and gameplay is, if done "well", synthezised into a cohesive whole.
I guess it was easier for lawmakers to target a game that's rated for teens rather than a game made for mature audiences. Y'know, the whole "We need to protect the children!" and shit.
XOLiD hey I’m a new RUclipsr and I just dropped a few videos, if anyone could check them out so we get a 2nd opinion that would be awesome If you don’t want to then just ignore
As someone who has hated EA since the day they shut down Bullfrog and still stung by what they did to Mass Effect and Dungeon Keeper (amongst others), I am drinking this whole thing in with great furor and pleasure.
I hated them after what they did to Westwood. I'm a strategy game fan, a big one, and Red Alert was one of my favorite games growing up. EA killed the franchise and killed Westwood, they deserve nothing but scorn.
Seriously, lootboxes are perhaps one of the worst things to have happened to the industry in its entire existence. I can withstand DLC if it's done right, such as in Dark Souls or The Witcher 3. I can barely stomach Season Passes. But I am just *repelled* by this. Because, for AAA games, it's not an excuse to get funds for a yet to be released game. It's not because you need it to keep the servers running (as if console players didn't pay enough for that with suscriptions, and even then DICE is infamous for having disastrous launches). It's just a way to satisfy corporate greed in the most disgusting way possible: exploiting the more weak-willed people, or the richests snots around, into spending money for a slight *CHANCE* they might have more fun if they do so. I sincerely hope this whole bullshit collapses. That it forces to see the wrongs of their ways and try to make a change. But I know it won't happen. They will just find something else to exploit.
And we will be there again, stronger than ever and ready for war. The long endless war... Gaming was fun once right? I feel like I got in to this hobby cuz it was fun but it's so hard to remember now.
I think Season passes are fine, so long as you know exactly what you are getting and when you are getting it, unlike the last Battlefront when they were selling season passes before they had even started developing any DLC
Even in overwatch it's still kind of bad. They could've just given us points for matches and let us purchase wat we want from the start, instead of having us get random loot that doesn't really give us enough currency to buy anything. Especially since when Overwatch came out it had a lack of content (maps, characters, Etc), no progression outside of skin collection (Ranked mode wasn't a thing) and cost a full AAA price.
This has to be one of the biggest gaming clusterfucks I have ever seen in my entire life, and I cannot think of anyone more deserving of this suffering than EA. Not only have they fucked up loot boxes for the rest of the industry, not only have they damaged the image of one of the biggest franchises in modern entertainment, they have now brought the scrutiny of multiple countries' GOVERNMENTS down on them, and by proxy, Disney. And you don't want to get on the bad side of one of the leading media empires in the world. Star Wars is now being equated with gambling and Joe Camel thanks to EA. Combine that with the recent news about John Lasseter, and these past couple of days have been a PR nightmare for Disney. They are going to find a way to save face as soon as possible. EA has been playing Russian roulette for years now, and the gun finally went off. No, they're toast. I guarantee you Disney is going through their contract right now in an attempt to find a way to revoke their deal with EA.
MinersLoveGames Disney should let a company other than EA make a Star Wars game. How about better companies like Nintendo, Platinum Games, Sega, or even Bungie to some extent take the job instead of EA?
I would immensely enjoy a Platinum Games Star Wars game. Just thinking about what they could do with lightsaber duels makes me grin. And you know the music would be on point.
Or Jimquisition haters. There are people on youtube who'll go through the trouble of disliking every video that comes out from certain youtubers, just because they don't like them. A lot of trouble for a petty and ultimately inconsequential revenge.
People voting down the video actually help Jim or any channel. It's the total number of votes that Google looks at when promoting a channel onto the list of recommended videos. It's called engagement. So don't fret. It's all good.
I have decided that this Christmas, I will not be doing regular presents. I will instead buy a few really high end gifts, like brand new laptops and Iphones. I will also buy some pricey but not super expensive items like brand new video games and Game of Thrones on blu-ray. But most things I buy will be cheap crappy gifts that no one really wants, like scented candles and Itunes giftcards. I will then proceed to pack random assortments of these items into boxes, each box will contain five items with at least one mid tier or better, and wrap them up nicely as presents should be. I will then distribute them to friends and family. I have no clue where i got this great idea for holiday fun from.
You forgot to mention that after someone opens their first present, they will find that the rest are behind a paywall. But no worry, since they have their wallets full of delicious, regular dollars. Unfortunately, a present can only be purchased with golden dollars, for which they either have to mine coal for weeks, or they can give a liter of their blood right then and there and immerse themselves in the holiday fun again.
That's not pissed. That's Jim smiling ear to ear watching EA beeing chased by brooms over a Battlefield lit by heavenly light. "Die Geister die ich rief..."
Jim was probably thinking of doing a video about regulators stepping up and thought it’d make for a good bonus Jimquisition opportunity. His argument is the same one he’s be pounding for a while now so it was a quick one to write. Thank god for them and thank god for Jim!
I'm reminded of when Digital Homicide actually put Jim's comment of "not enough popcorn" in their lawsuit against him and I think his laywer charged them with defining what constitutes "enough popcorn."
"We shouldn't allow Star Wars to encourage your kids to gamble." Mickey Mouse is arranging a little unfortunate accident to happen at EA HQ as we speak. No one tarnishes "The Mouse's" brand, not after they spent more money than the GDP of quite a few countries to buy it.
I can imagine a situation of Mickey setting up some “evidence” of Android Wilson embezzling some of the profits into his own pockets to get him ousted from the company. Then replacing him with a Disney “Yesman” to run EA.
I've been stating fact's in the comment's for a long while now myself but with no viewers on my channel to even bother to put a video up and no form of fame to have anyone take notice of me I just typically get ignored for being right. -_-
Steven Smiley I never understood how certain people and publishers alike could not call this gambling. Sure it doesn't present the immediate predatory lure of a casino's slot machine, but bright, shiny graphics don't hide the fact that your video game(marketed towards adults AND youths) inherits the same risk/reward nature of any Vegas roulette wheel if not SLIGHTLY worse in this case. Couldn't agree more mate.
But that's not with the company. You assume the value of the account and then you sell it to someone willing to pay for it. That's not gambling. Using vague examples that aren't even related to the actual practice just shows how pathetically flimsy the argument is.
Yeah, I saw it on Angryjoe's stream. I got a bit angry myself because now, any racing sim type game has to have microtransactions to get lootboxes (or "Speed Cards") to get a something out of ten chance to get the uprade YOU need for your car to upgrade it. In the older ones, you payed for the car upgrades with in-game currency and you're done... FUCKIN'. SIMPLE!
Sad it took you this long to do that. I've boycotted EA for the past 7 years because i knew they were shit. Hell, i knew they were shit before that, but i wanted to give The Old Republic an honest chance, and they fucked that up.
we should thank EA for being a greedy bastard, if not then it might take a lot more time before things escalated to this point now more people are aware of how shitty the game industry has become and even the government has been forced to move and do something about this mess and not only EA would be affected, any other greedy game company that should be able to get away with their shitty practice might also have to think twice and be more cautious or they will become a public enemy
Sadly, it doesn't work like this. People's outrage is subject to diminishing returns. As long as they keep trying, they'll eventually succeed. Just look at net neutrality.
I would love a rework like Rainbow six has: If you win, you have a bigger chance of getting a box. If you dont get the box your chances increase. 3 boxes per week and only level up boxes are bullshit. Itens in overwatch cost money and they dont evenget the basic of giving currency on victories, like Rainbow Six!
I completely agree with either removing paid lootboxes, or increasing the rating on the game. This is coming from a huge, young adult fan of Overwatch.
Darkness Prevails I'd rather they get rid of the microtransactions and fixed the drop rates so you don't only get legendary items once in a blue moon. Overwatch's loot box system's problem isn't that it's P2W, but that it isn't rewarding in the slightest. And the limited-time events only just rub salt into the wound since while you can grind for credits for other skins you want, once the event's over and you didn't get the skin you wanted? Too bad! Better luck next year!
I have no idea why EA thought they could get away with this bullshite. Seriously, you don't fuck with Star Wars, it's practically a household name at this point.
TheStargov hey I’m a new RUclipsr and I just dropped a few videos, if anyone could check them out so we get a 2nd opinion that would be awesome If you don’t want to then just ignore
I absolutely understand why they thought they could get away with it. Gamers have been so complacent and fuckin stupid for so long that it makes sense that EA thought they could keep it going. And star wars games are going to sell. Just like jim said when he asked if they actually thought a star wars game wouldnt sell enough.. they absolutely knew it would sell, thats why they decided to greed it up as much ss they could.
CrashingOut no way in hell that the us would ban them. ..this country encourages full scale greed...anything that seems capitalistic is ok even if it royally fucks the consumer. ..even our new tax plan is gonna take an extra 5 percent per pay check from me whereas the already super wealthy corporations are the one's getting the tax cut. ..the poorest states (aka the ones who voted for trump) are the ones that are gonna get hit the hardest. ..in conclusion, don't expect any such legislature here.
Hmmm Removing microtransactions are "not expected to have a material impact on the company". Almost makes you wonder why they ever included them. Hmmmm... Really rattles those raisins!
I hoped something would eventually happen. But It seems to be happening faster than I thought (which doesn't say much because my expactations were on the lowest after the whole "lootboxes are not gambling"- report).
They are legally mandated to suck up as much cash as possible out of you to satisfy their investors. If they couldn't demonstrate that they attempted every scheme imaginable, the investors could sue them out of business and put them in jail. In D&D terms, if you are a corporation, you are ALWAYS LAWFUL EVIL. FYI, this is why all the Big Ones always hop in on the trends popularized by one of them. If Activision-Blizzard makes a lot of infinite profit via loot boxes, EA HAS TO at least try to do the same, or the investors will wise up and sue the company's executives for not trying hard enough. Same with season passes, nickle and dime worthless DLC, pre-orders, etc etc. The tragedy is, some of those executives might realize that grabbing the moral high ground is the ideal long term solution, but they know that convincing the majority shareholders is impossible. These are greedy old men doomed to die off eventually. They want IMMEDIATE returns, as much money as possible before they die, as if they could feasibly spent it all in time or actually find true happiness in their hearts of greed.
Actually, there is no law anywhere that says companies are supposed to reward their investors at the expense of everything else. There is absolutely no legal grounds for an investor to sue a company unless they perceived foul play is involved. The real reason companies are so short sighted is simple: CEOs often have salaries that are based on performance per trimester. Why would they care about the long term if they get a big fat bonus paycheck if the company goes over their projection for the quarter? It's the CEOs that are the usual money grubbing dickheads (ok, to be fair, sometimes shareholders demand a lot of companies and they usually bend themselves over to please them but let me remind you that as long as a company is acting in their best interest, and this doesn't mean maximizing profit, the shareholders cannot pursue legal action because a company didn't make them all the money in the world). Please avoid spreading misinformation. A very simple google search will inform you that there is no such law. For more, see: www.nytimes.com/roomfordebate/2015/04/16/what-are-corporations-obligations-to-shareholders/corporations-dont-have-to-maximize-profits
Companies generally don't like forward thinking. They just want a pattern, a cash-cow they can exploit repeatedly with minimal effort in order to keep their pockets lined with money. For all the talk of "innovation" that gets thrown around in industry, nobody actually LIKES to innovate unless they're positive they can milk that innovation for a long-ass time before they have to do it again.
Holy crap I heard about the Hawaii representatives video but did NOT expect to hear them say Star Wars was linked to gambling and not just ea linking it. Disney must be royally pissed right now
Batmanicus i am expecting Disney to pull EA off Star Wars any day now. This is the 40th anniversary year with episode 8 out for the holidays they dont need this
It's good that this caught Disney's attention cause the only people bigger than EA is Disney and Disney will do whatever they have to, to protect there brand image.
EmperorJew They're as bad as EA on some things, but they absolutely hate being associated with gambling. It's why there aren't marvel or star wars themed slot machines anymore.
This may sound bad, but I'm happy Battlefront 2 has this major negative impact, we needed this for people outside the gaming industry just to see how bad loot boxes and all that bull crap has become... Thank fuck again Jimbo and thank fuck for EA's cockups
While it sucks that Star Wars (especially battlefront 2) had to be dragged thru the mud to get us here, I am heavily grateful that we are finally here.
@ D.O.N. Agreed, it was getting out of control in all games, not just with E.A. This has been getting worse and worse for years. Just took one major fuck-up for the mainstream media/non-gamers/etc. to actually take notice.
I agree, games aren't that expensive to make. And if they are so expensive that they need microtransactions to make enough money to break even then why not just lower how much you're spending on the game? I know of many games that don't require 500 Titans just to run the game on the lowest settings that aren't only fun to play, but also look decent enough to not be repulsive. Hell, look at how well games like Oneshot, Undertale, or even *Minecraft* are doing and tell me they were "too expensive to make". You can't. Because they weren't.
My PC is a few years old, so to me, too high graphics are actually a bit of a turnoff. When I saw the first gameplay videos of the next Assassin's Creed, I wasn't impressed with the graphics, my first thought was "Oh ****, if I try playing that on my pc it'll melt!".
And here I am with a recently upgraded PC that can play virtually anything and yet I stick to playing my 10+ year old games. There has been nothing recently that interested me, and games that did (like Rocket League with it's 10 year old engine or the greatly optimized new DOOM) can be played on a potato (at least on my old potato). "Trrrriple-Ei" graphics are overrated.
games are increasingly less and less expensive to make it is 100% a bullshit excuse it is all about making games that produce the most amount of money with the least amount of effort
On the concept of greed... EA said they expected to sell 14 million copies of the game. Assuming EVERYONE bought the standard version, that's 840 MILLION dollars, and they still felt that they needed lootboxes? That's more money than a lot of summer blockbuster movies pull in, so even if their development cost was high, this is a blatant cash grab. Disgusting. After this mess I don't think they're going to sell anywhere near that number, but I'm just stunned that someone thought they could get away with this.
MoreImbaThanYou nobody will care because it doesn't actually impact gameplay and you don't have to grind to unlock characters or pay to play on new maps. They have to get money somehow so unless you have a better idea for long term sustainability that doesn't pressure players to buy new heroes to stay competitive I and most other people will be happy with loot boxes.
@Done "They have to get money from somewhere." Man that is a tired excuse for what the big corporation have been doing to consumers...that get their money from investors and SELLING FUCKING GAMES. Blizzard already has a long term sustainability plan...it is called a monthly subscription. Unless a game is Free to Play (as in you payed Zero to obtain and play the game), there is no place for micro-transactions. Cosmetic or not. Seems the gaming industry, games, and gamers got by for YEARS without this shit. I suspect (and this is the hard truth) we all would still be doing just fine without them. There is not one single Consumer benefit to micro-transactions.
Better idea? Like in buying skins directly, instead of gambling with lootboxes? Like not getting 90% junk? There you have a better idea. Only took me 1 second and some common sense to come up with it.
+MoreImbaThanYou I don't really see any problems with loot boxes (like OW's) which give only cosmetic items. You have to have a credit card to buy those boxes so it's parents fault if they give kids the money they don't have.
Its a tangable way he can prove he is able to afford to conduct his business. He can afford to smash a tablet to make a point, He will buy another and carry on with his business as planned. He wont be passing that cost onto us, his fanbase. I think that is the point being made, even if it just landed on a pillow off screen lol. At least I think that was the point, maybe I'm deliriously high right now.
If there's one thing Star Wars Gamblefront 2 did right, it's finally making people outside of the gaming community see how predatory and scummy loot boxes truly are. Apparently Middle Earth: Shadows of War wasn't enough.
I suspect it’s because it’s a Star Wars game, which is much more in the mainstream public consciousness these days than Lord of the Rings. Obviously LotR is popular, but the last truly mainstream thing that I can recall from it was the Peter Jackson movies, and those came out over a decade ago. Star Wars, on the other hand, is in the middle of a new trilogy, releasing new movies every year, and has a popular children’s cartoon running with Star Wars Rebels. Much easier to imagine children playing a T rated Star Wars game than an M rated Lord of the Rings game.
Elijah Nelson That's true, actually. Both franchises are popular, but overall Star Wars has definitely had more of a cultural impact. And the thing about the rating is true as well...though I sincerely hope it doesn't mean that publishers will be able to get away with putting loot boxes in *only* M-rated games. And there was also the Peter Jackson Hobbit trilogy, which was pretty recent, but it ended about three years ago.
Is it possible for Disney to sue EA for damages if The Last Jedi underperforms? The Star Wars brand just got compared to Joe fucking Camel, if I were Disney I'd bury them just to send a message.
disney is likely in on it the whole time i doubt they can legitimately claim any ignorance in the matter and ea is being used as the "fall guy" in the situation
At the very _least_ parents will look into the games themselves and decide whether or not it'll be damaging if they buy it for their child which is where _a lot_ of the profits came from.
no, this could potentially hurt EA a lot. imagine if FIFA gets age restricted and can't be sold to minors anymore because of the 'Ultimate Team'-gambling-bs.
I know you critique games and shitty practices but is there any chance you could make a vid on Net Neutrality, the corrupt who want to get rid of it and it's impact on gaming and what you can do to support NN? (I know you dont like suggestions either, sorry)
TheLastLaugh Jim doesnt hate suggestions. Most of the videos he has done before comes at the behest of people who wanted to see it. However he does dislike getting spammed about a topic he was already told by others. You can check his Twitter for that. Yes Net neutrality is a bigger deal, but that doesn't mean jim isnt aware of it. It doesnt need to be a jimquision for jim to know about it.
It's funny because the way we've seen AAA games go in the past few years exactly mirrors what will happen to the internet when Net Neutrality dies. That's not to say that we'll be loot box gambling for internet access (although I would honestly not be surprised if a company like Comcast would be the one to pull that off) but predatory behavior in general. Oh, the predatory behavior by ISPs is going to flow free, just wait and see. They'll introduce it slowly over the course of a few years to make it feel normal, and *hopefully* the day will come when a PR rep from Comcast gets a million downvotes on reddit and it starts the revolution. ...But that probably won't happen, because at that point, the ISPs could literally just block any content they don't like.
Eros, tell that to Portugal. Net Neutrality is a global issue, and the US is currently at the forefront of that fight. Once the US falls, many other democracies will fall, too. Companies like Verizon and AT&T are global, are you so naive to think they would not push for the same lobbying in the EU and beyond? Net Neutrality is NOT a USA issue. It is global. And the sooner people realize this, the sooner we can end the fight against it. Anti-Net Neutrality is not only terrible for people in general, an affront to freedoms, but an absolutely terrible business model that has nowhere to go but down. The fact that politicians and businesses are even considering ending it is a logical paradox. Put content behind paywalls for users>Force companies to pay premiums to be included within the paywall structure>Customers spend money for premium content>The working class that can't afford premium content cut ties entirely>Pool of consumers shrinks>Ad-revenue based media like RUclips, Google, Facebook see drastic hit to consumer base>Companies paying said premiums realize they are throwing money at a shrinking base for no reason>Customers see value behind premium content diminish, and refuse to pay premiums It is a feedback loop that just does not work. The cable companies make a few millions for a few years, then the floor drops out from underneath everyone, including the cable companies. It needs to be stopped, and soon. Copy and paste to send a message: www.fcc.gov/ecfs/search/proceedings?q=name:((17-108))
I didn't even think about kids, tbh. Of course younger and younger children are going to be playing these games and we haven't done nearly enough research on what it could to do them.
We have plenty of research on what lootboxes does, variable rewards is the most effective way to build habits. That's why they are preferred as a monetization model.
Read up on Skinner Box or Operant Conditioning. The developers and publishers implementing unregulated gambling into the game designs know exactly what they are doing. I hope they all end up having to face ethics inquiries from government bodies in all regions in which they have operated with their predatory practices targeting unsuspecting consumers of all ages.
EA has done plenty of research on what it does to children. That's how they've spent millions of dollars developing psychological tactics to turn kids into whales.
ZoeAlleyne imagine being a kid right now and growing up as games like this being the norm. I feel lucky to have grown up in the 90’s when there were still real fully made games with no MTs
The difference is that the blind bags aren't inherently tied to the experience of another thing and are not warcraft-style soulbound once you own them. They exist on their own and can be easily traded in case you get duplicates.
A: We're sorry. Microtransactions were a mistake that we will not be repeating. B: This change is not expected to have a material impact. B Jim will remember this.
"yes, thankyou Dave, as you can see here, I'm currently at the EA offices, and it is like a scene from my nightmares, you can see there on that pile of burning tires the marketing team, over there being beaten to death with sticks is the head of the marketing department, and over there in the centre, the crucified CEO on a flaming crucifix. Now, you and I both remember the controversial move on EA's part that instigated this entire crusade on large game developers: when they announced their latest game would in fact be sold in stores, but you would have to pay an extra $15.00 for the game itself." "Thankyou Laura, I hear they are currently dismembering the Ubisoft sales team with hatchets. Now, the weather."
I know your whole thing is about games, Jim. Yet could you make a Jimquisition or just a video in general on defending Net Neutrality, maybe with links in the description so we can take action? There's WAY too many people either being fed misinformation or that just don't know about it in general.
Sam Of Spades Jim should definitely make a video, It impacts online games massively. Imagine if an ISP like Comcast decided to throttle your connection to Riot Game's League of Legends servers because valve paid extra to them to ensure Dota was the moba with the best internet connection. Broken net neutrality could really fuck with online gaming.
serenadesilhout This* exclusivity won't make star wars games any good, CDproject have made awesome games because they made the games they wanted to make, not because they had an exclusive deal for a money making franchise, people who actually want to do Star Wars games should do them, not whoever has a licence for it and wants to milk it.
Yes that's the thing. Whenever a company has a monopoly on the rights to produce the games, what incentive do they have to really make a good game? We see how that has worked with the Madden franchise. EA can do their "games as service" type star wars games and other companies can do their own thing such as single player campaigns or adverture games.
Potate -O hey I’m a new RUclipsr and I just dropped a few videos, if anyone could check them out so we get a 2nd opinion that would be awesome If you don’t want to then just ignore
If you want positive change that will actually help people. Vote for Justice Dems, DSA, and others in that vein. Corporatist dems will not help you. They take the same bribes from the same donor class assholes as the Republicans.
This video made me so happy! I am someone who calls himself a gamer for more than 10 years, but I wouldn't mind if this destroys gaming industry with strict regulations. They had ths coming.
3rdHalf i would be perfectly fine with this. I want microtransactions out of my game (unless free, as they need some way to make money unless a small project). I love Battlefront and recently got BF2(005) just to relive the glory days when Pandemic was still alive. This just saddens me as this was one of the only Star Wars products I loved. I don't even like Star Wars as a whole too much. Just BF, KOTOR, and the Lego games. For gaming as a whole, I hope this shit just gets less and less common until it dies out and it turns into the 90's in the modern day ('cept mabye free dlc like Nintendo is doing (mostly)).
3rdHalf hey I’m a new RUclipsr and I just dropped a few videos, if anyone could check them out so we get a 2nd opinion that would be awesome If you don’t want to then just ignore
As for Australia I did send in a tip to Australian gaming commission for investigation with link to Jim's clip maybe just maybe that will help end EA's bullshit and stop other developers making this loot box gambling crap.
Why don't they just cut back on the fucknig photo realistic graphics LOL "games are too expensive to make" why assume we all need photorealistic han solo beard graphics???? I think honestly the games industry would thrive big time if they all rolled back graphics technology by 5 years. We might actually get complete games and feature rich gameplay experiences rather than a directors add on footage of the artists spending a year drawing darth vaders cod piece textures
Alex MacKelly I've got the impression that it's mostly AAA companies pushing the whole photo-realism thing, I mean, just look at minecraft or virtually everything created by Nintendo, those games aren't realistic but they are still massively popular and liked by critics and audience alike.
I mean nintendo already does that and they're more successful this year than they've been in the past decade, heck they're doing so good Jim actually made a POSITIVE video about them. If the AAA industry were to crash due to lootboxes and predatory practices in game development, Nintendo would not only survive it, but probably benefit from it financially
I feel so much shame that I thought cosmetics were where lootboxes would end, because free2play pay2win games have already tried putting pay2win systems in their games, but no. I was too optimistic.
medhathobo Yeah Jim was ahead of the curve on this one. As he kept saying, 'give these people an inch....and they'll take EVERYTHING because they just can't help themselves. With examples like Battlefront, Need for Speed, Shadow of War and NBA 2018 recently, it's becoming apparent that companies were willing to essentially torpedo the gameplay experience of their own games and make them purposefully less fun to play, so that players would become frustrated and pay for the privilege of not having a frustrating experience.
Games with gambling should be classified as AO under the ESRB. This would instantly fix the problem. Battlefront II is rated T (13 and up.) The 13 year olds are being let into the Star Wars casino to have at the slot machines. www.ign.com/wikis/content-ratings/ESRB
MindsAblaze2 There is a danger of that wording. Using RNGs should only be okay for games that don't use money or currency in exchange of money. Strictly raising games that have gambling would hurt other games such as the Yakuza series or even Godhand. Maybe I'm overthinking.
If you mean gambling that is connected to real world money then I agree. Although I would exclude things like playing poker with caps in Fallout New Vegas.
Hurray! TWO Jimquisitions this week, both having something positive to say! As a side note, Jim really is a decent news source for following the game industry, in one way at least: his videos sometimes seem a bit padded out with recaps of things he's already said, and while today I began to get annoyed, I then remembered any time I've looked into actual news. I always come in too late, and all the articles start where the last one picked off. "Why is the government shut down?" "Who even is this alleged rapist?" "He actually got elected!?!?!?" etc... So I have to start scouring the backlogs of the news internet until I find where the story actually started because reporters usually don't have time to catch the ignorant up to speed. ... so... Thanks, Jim. Very considerate of the uninitiated.
Did anyone else get chills when Jim took the time to direct the question at other developers? Oh man I feel like I'm in the middle of something they'll write about in the history books.
"Belgium says loot boxes are gambling, wants them banned in Europe" Hahaha even imaginary countries want them gone! (Of course I'm kidding around, Belgium is chill)
Rated M wouldn’t change things. Plus realistically plenty of kids get parents to buy M rated games so I doubt it would stop investigation. However ESRB could try to dodge gov interference by classing/reclassing anything with loot boxes (aka paid content that produces a randomized result) as AO. Basically no store will sell AO games so pubs avoid making them, which would kill the current form. Pubs may push for this because it means avoiding oversight which means they can devise some new method to slip through the cracks, where gov oversight would make it harder.
Ratings change nothing. You can simply create an email, falsify your age, do the same with your video game account. Then go buy some cards at practically any store and purchase the rated game digitally. Why do you think they have PlayStation/Xbox/steam cards? Just what I said above
Did you ever hear the tragedy of Darth EA The Greed? I thought not. It’s not a story other Developers would tell. its a reddit legend. Darth EA the Greed was a gaming publisher, so cheap and so greedy that he thought could use the microtransactions to create...profit. He had such a knowledge of underhanded business tactics, he could even buy out his competition. He became so wealthy...the only thing he was afraid of was losing he wealth, which, of course, eventually he did. Unfortunately, he pissed off reddit so much that reddit killed him in a AMA. How Ironic. He could get more Money than any other Publisher, but yet Not enough for himself.
The way the winged symbol in the background is slightly askew never fails to give me an OCD pang. I keep waiting for the day that this is noticed and surreptitiously corrected.
Easy buy the ones for two generations ago. With things as is it'd likely end up cheaper to purchase a working console of that era and a copy of the previous games.
EA: Games are so expensive we need loot boxes. EA to investors: The removal of loot boxes will not affect earnings. Gee I wonder why EA is the most hated company in video games?
What we'll see E.A. do is come up with another name for the Loot Box, and when called out for pulling the exact same shady bullshit practices again, insist "But these aren't Loot Boxes! These are different!" Cue Jim Sterling talking about the Simpsons episode with Malibu Stacey, now with a hat.
@@coreylineberry8557 Yup nintendo deserves some credit i do not mind some expansion passes so long as it DOES NOT TAKE AWAY content from the game and it is a addition worth paying and so long as it is quality content and not just some random suit nobody cares about. Add extreme value to a game and don't exploit your audience and they will spend an extra 20 dollars.
@@coreylineberry8557 I always say companies can want all the money in the world but this quote says it all. JIM STERLING: if ya want to be a fucknugget about needing additional $ ya gonna be called a fucknugget.
Oh, they just never learn do they? They're just going to push and push until something snaps. I'm a writer so I'm never in favor of the government regulating art but the AAA gaming industry has pushed too far and too hard. If they won't clean their own backyard someone bigger needs to come along and MAKE THEM clean it. The violence scare should've already taught them this lesson but corporations just don't care.
The AAA gaming industry stopped being about art a long time ago, it's all about PRODUCT now. Games are not art, entertainment or even sports. They're just a product, and an almost storefront for microtransactions, some games are so poorly done it's like they just made it barely functioning, but you can bet that the microtransaction shop is always up and running, has no problems. Almost like an illusion - the game itself doesn't matter - what matters is that MARKET/SHOP button.
The part that makes me laugh the most is Mickey Mouse reading the headlines and saying: "Oh, they trying to trick out my bitch without my permission? Oh, HELL NAW! EA, you done fucked with the wrong mouse! Haw Haw!"
"We didn't allow Joe Camel to encourage your kids to smoke cigarettes and we shouldn't allow Star Wars to encourage your kids to gamble." Ouch, indeed.
SuperCosmicKuma p
b-b-b-but it's not *legally* considered gambling!!!!!
Yeah I won't surprise me that just on that one comment that Disney drops ea
That had to have made Disney fucking cringe
Rekt.
Someone please this guy a mountain of cookies!
with EA it ain't about the dam games it's about their pockets full of money EA does not care for co wrkers nope money but the one who rule EA it's like the devil is inside them waiting for the kid or adult to step into the game store and those EA games are like something demonic it's like this isn't just EA Blizzard or Activision i think there's way more to it then we could possibly imagine
+Taiwo Farimoyo like some sort of giant conspiracy or something
they could do something make games price as $20k
I don't mind microtransactions if: 1) the game is cheap or free, 2) it doesn't create imbalance (ie: pay to win), and 3) it adds value and variety without being necessary to complete the game.
EA is the master of having no ethics so they violate #1, #2, and #3 for me. EA is trending in the direction they need to go. There are so many small developers out there that make quality products I never miss any product put out by EA.
"We didn't allow Joe Camel to encourage your kids to smoke cigarettes, and we shouldn't allow Star Wars to encourage your kids to gamble."
Holy crap, this comment. Like, this is the shit Disney didn't want. They didn't say "EA encourages kids to gamble". They said Star Wars. That's the last kind of word association Disney wants less than a month out from their next big film release. That's fucking hysterical.
Joe Camel. Joseph Campbell was more instrumentmental in a way towards the CREATION of Star Wars though.
Woops. Did not know that. Thanks for pointing it out guys. Edited
Don't worry bro, i also thought he said Joe Campbell, lol
I don’t think EA understands how many gamers want their company complete dissolved. I think they are starting to feel it. I hope they feel they are surrounded by millions of apes with knives out. That’s how they should feel after years of this garbage
Ha ha, EA this is Disney, you gone and really fucked up this time ha ha. We are currently sending Donald and Goofy with bats to break your knees ha ha.

It's such a god-tier comment lmfao 😂
Makes me wonder if Disney is going to drop EA from making starwars games after this? I certainly wouldn't mind if they did.
I would LOVE it, let Obsidian make a KOTOR 3 damnit! And get someone else to make a new Jedi Knight :)
Dice can make great multiplayer games, they have proven it many times. But they have yet to make a great campaign, most of them are not even good but very poor. Def an area they can improve in imo!
Triple fife they did kind of rip EA a brand new a******. So in turn perhaps...
"A Star Wars themed online casino"
I felt bile rise in my throat when he said that.... the worst part is he's right
The thing is, to me that statement is more or less a 'Think of the Children' moment... its not really true, after all theres still a mostly functional single and large multiplayer game in there... if the game was simply buying lootboxes and opening them then yes his statements right, but its not.

#RestInPeaceVisceral
Never forget ultima.
Molyneux is responsible for how his many series have all gone to shit, not EA. That man turns gold to shit.
Ea screwed over ultima 9 in favor of finishing online
The whole series went to shit after they were bought out
I hated them after what they did to Westwood. I'm a strategy game fan, a big one, and Red Alert was one of my favorite games growing up. EA killed the franchise and killed Westwood, they deserve nothing but scorn.
20 years ago, we'd never have thought we'd be in a position where we sided with the government against games companies.
Wasn't the case of Witcher 3 more a big Expansion pack rather than small DLC?
Unraveler yes. Yes it was.
ImmortalLycanroc FangFace
Don't let Bungie off the hook too soon.
Crispman 777 Never said I was, but I am saying they’re way better than EA

You don't think it will provide them with a sense of pride and accomplishment?

To be fair, they are probably apt for their ages...

You do NOT. FUCK. WITH THE MOUSE.
I can imagine a situation of Mickey setting up some “evidence” of Android Wilson embezzling some of the profits into his own pockets to get him ousted from the company. Then replacing him with a Disney “Yesman” to run EA.
And once again, Jim Sterling was right, and the internet tries to pretend that he wasn't.

Wait. Wait. Is it actually called Need For Speed *Payback*?? Oh my /god/.
Need For Speed: PayNOW
Hahaha Nice!! XD
Sylv Aine I know! It is so wrong. Payback gives the impression that they (EA) would pay something back to you. Should have been called "PayMore".
😎
... Holy crap, I didn't even see that until now. *MEGAFACEPALM*
Sylv Aine I thought "cartel" was a bad omen for a video game title. Now it's anything to do with money.
BY THE WAY, this is gambling. There is a monetary value in having everything in Battlefront unlocked. You wonder how? You can sell your account.
That's not gambling at all. That's just selling an account.
TheNoirMirror yeah just like cashing in your chips isn’t gambling, it’s the method to how you acquired something that has a monetary value
But that's not with the company. You assume the value of the account and then you sell it to someone willing to pay for it. That's not gambling. Using vague examples that aren't even related to the actual practice just shows how pathetically flimsy the argument is.
TheNoirMirror
"Vague"? Are you that dense?
HOW DID YOU NOT SHOW NEED FOR SPEEDS LITERAL SLOT MACHINE LOOTBOXES.
I've not seen those. I've literally decided to steer clear of EA at all costs.
Of course a racing game has loot boxes of course it does
Yeah, I saw it on Angryjoe's stream.
FUCKIN'. SIMPLE!
The only good thing you can rely on with the gaming industry is when they find an exploit they burn it out quicker then most other industries
Sad it took you this long to do that. I've boycotted EA for the past 7 years because i knew they were shit. Hell, i knew they were shit before that, but i wanted to give The Old Republic an honest chance, and they fucked that up.

we should thank EA for being a greedy bastard, if not then it might take a lot more time before things escalated to this point
now more people are aware of how shitty the game industry has become and even the government has been forced to move and do something about this mess
and not only EA would be affected, any other greedy game company that should be able to get away with their shitty practice might also have to think twice and be more cautious or they will become a public enemy
Sadly, it doesn't work like this. People's outrage is subject to diminishing returns. As long as they keep trying, they'll eventually succeed. Just look at net neutrality.

I hope Overwatch's lootboxes disappear ASAP.
Well, at least the paid ones.
Hey look who it is! Are you wearing your pikachu snuggie while watching this?
[SB] Vinyl Nah, but I do have my minions boxers on.
I freaking hate them too.

Well to be honest no. But not being surprised doesn't mean not to react
I was surprised that it happened this soon, otherwise nope.
I hoped something would eventually happen.
But It seems to be happening faster than I thought (which doesn't say much because my expactations were on the lowest after the whole "lootboxes are not gambling"- report).
At this point...NO!
I don't understand how so many companies can care so little about the long term, happily shooting themselves in the foot for a short-term gain.
Bob, Squirrel King Stupidity and greed.
This is the 40th anniversary year with episode 8 out for the holidays they dont need this
EA is probably shitting themselves a little while a VERY irate mickey mouse grills them over the phone right about now... XD
It's good that this caught Disney's attention cause the only people bigger than EA is Disney and Disney will do whatever they have to, to protect there brand image.
EmperorJew
I mean... all corporations are basically shit.
D.O.N. It doesn't sound bad at all. You're right, this did need to happen.
@ D.O.N. Agreed, it was getting out of control in all games, not just with E.A. This has been getting worse and worse for years. Just took one major fuck-up for the mainstream media/non-gamers/etc. to actually take notice.
Could easilybend too far the other way now with religious an parents getting a louder voice in censorship.
it just sucks that an entire game with so much potential was sacrificed for it.. if it was maybe only NFS then that would have been perfect.
Please keep adressing Blizzard and activision. Don't let this settle down and get them away with the "just cosmetics" excuse.
Blizz can do no wrong wont see there feet to the fire anytime soon.
+MoreImbaThanYou
I don't really see any problems with loot boxes (like OW's) which give only cosmetic items. You have to have a credit card to buy those boxes so it's parents fault if they give kids the money they don't have.
Hopefully by 2020 loot boxes will be extinct
Anyone running for Prez. in 2020 on an "outlaw lootboxes" ticket is getting my vote.
Supreme leader Oliver Well a country in Europe has classified them as gambling and has banned them. Yay
That poor tablet...

Electronic Farts 🏃💨💨💨💨
Easy joke but not wrong lol.
Disney is verrrrrry pissed. Thus was the big game for the 40th anniversary of Star Wars
EA is likely shitting themselves a little as a VERY irate mickey mouse chews them out on the phone. XD
Disney was disappointed BECAUSE they pulled micro transactions.
i want to see a south park episode where mickey mouse beats up the bosses of ea
Any day now disney to pull the star wars license away from EA just pull it from them already
Here's hoping that EA gets publishing rights taken away for degrading the Star Wars brand.
Huzzah!!! I know the war isn't even close to over....but hopefully this battle was a turning point! Nice job, as always, Jim!
It's over EA. We have the high ground.
Andrew Wilson: You underestimate my power!
Anakin: I don't like EA's money-leaching tactics. It's coarse and rough and irritating and it gets everywhere.
If there's one thing Star Wars Gamblefront 2 did right, it's finally making people outside of the gaming community see how predatory and scummy loot boxes truly are. Apparently Middle Earth: Shadows of War wasn't enough.
Once it gets on mainstream news, that's when shit gets real. Here's the result.
Crono Sapien too many white knight these days
Josh Bouman this game ain't doing shit to the movie
+Cjbroncos25 It did killed my Ep IX hype... for now that is.
People said the reddit post wouldn't affect the game too.
disney is likely in on it the whole time i doubt they can legitimately claim any ignorance in the matter and ea is being used as the "fall guy" in the situation
This was merely a setback, I'm afraid.
But holy shit, what a setback it's looking up to be!
Maybe. It could also be sign of the tide turning. Here's hoping.
That would be the dream
Oh, CD Projekt Red...if only you'd kept that promise...looking back over three years later, Jim was right to call all the AAAs out for this crap.
I know you critique games and shitty practices but is there any chance you could make a vid on Net Neutrality, the corrupt who want to get rid of it and it's impact on gaming and what you can do to support NN?
(I know you dont like suggestions either, sorry)
TheLastLaugh aw :(
TheLastLaugh Jim doesnt hate suggestions.
NN only happens in the USA, and is not really related to the gaming industry.
Put content behind paywalls for users>Force companies to pay premiums to be included within the paywall structure>Customers spend money for premium content>The working class that can't afford premium content cut ties entirely>Pool of consumers shrinks>Ad-revenue based media like RUclips, Google, Facebook see drastic hit to consumer base>Companies paying said premiums realize they are throwing money at a shrinking base for no reason>Customers see value behind premium content diminish, and refuse to pay premiums
It is a feedback loop that just does not work.
I feel lucky to have grown up in the 90’s when there were still real fully made games with no MTs
just look at what gambling does to people below the age of 18 and you can draw a direct parallel between lootboxes.
It's funny, I tell parents that those little kid toy "blind bags" are the somewhat watered down equivalent of game loot boxes.
The difference is that the blind bags aren't inherently tied to the experience of another thing and are not warcraft-style soulbound once you own them. They exist on their own and can be easily traded in case you get duplicates.
Oh sweet karma. Thy name is Electronic Arts.
keep the push going, let's not let them weasel this through the storm!
A: We're sorry. Microtransactions were a mistake that we will not be repeating.
B: This change is not expected to have a material impact.
B
Jim will remember this.
wow. a politician that looks and sounds like an actual human being, not something the Koch brothers put together in a lab
Do some research and don't fall in false promises
Should have asked this question instead: "Do you NOT feel... any *fucking shame??"*
No need to ask we all know thay don't
Im pretty sure that question is already answered.
Money talks, honor be damn!
Even after all these months I still love watching this episode.
Now, you and I both remember the controversial move on EA's part that instigated this entire crusade on large game developers: when they announced their latest game would in fact be sold in stores, but you would have to pay an extra $15.00 for the game itself."
"Thankyou Laura, I hear they are currently dismembering the Ubisoft sales team with hatchets. Now, the weather."
Vegeta! Check his smugness level. It’s...IT’S OVER 9000!!!
I know your whole thing is about games, Jim. Yet could you make a Jimquisition or just a video in general on defending Net Neutrality, maybe with links in the description so we can take action? There's WAY too many people either being fed misinformation or that just don't know about it in general.
Honestly this is more important than loot boxes and microtransactions. If this goes down... Well, I'd rather not think about it.
yes, this 100%
Sam Of Spades Jim should definitely make a video, It impacts online games massively. Imagine if an ISP like Comcast decided to throttle your connection to Riot Game's League of Legends servers because valve paid extra to them to ensure Dota was the moba with the best internet connection. Broken net neutrality could really fuck with online gaming.
EA is taking the attention away from the Net Neutrality situation for an even bigger pay day, Illuminati Confirmed!
As you said in your video about CSGOLOtto: Don't fuck with Europe.
Even if lootboxes don't get banned, I really hope EA loses their star wars rights, and awarded to another more reputable company.
bigfella67 Projektred,
Hope Disney does away with exclusive rights and lets any studio make games with permission.
serenadesilhout This* exclusivity won't make star wars games any good, CDproject have made awesome games because they made the games they wanted to make, not because they had an exclusive deal for a money making franchise, people who actually want to do Star Wars games should do them, not whoever has a licence for it and wants to milk it.
Yes that's the thing. Whenever a company has a monopoly on the rights to produce the games, what incentive do they have to really make a good game? We see how that has worked with the Madden franchise. EA can do their "games as service" type star wars games and other companies can do their own thing such as single player campaigns or adverture games.
bigfella67 DICE can make a brilliant Battlefront game they just need to fuck ea off
"This game is a Star Wars themed online casino" That is the single most beautiful thing I have ever heard. Fuck EA
About time lawmakers paid attention to this loot crate bullshit.
Now let’s hope other companies learn (including everyone’s favourite company, Valve)
Especially them, their lootboxes actually fit the defenition, you can sell whats in them for real money.
It's not exactly real money. You can sell them for store currency. Those funds can't actually leave the Steam economy without some laundering.
Potate -O hey I’m a new RUclipsr and I just dropped a few videos, if anyone could check them out so we get a 2nd opinion that would be awesome
If you don’t want to then just ignore
TRI piss off
If you want positive change that will actually help people.
3rdHalf hey I’m a new RUclipsr and I just dropped a few videos, if anyone could check them out so we get a 2nd opinion that would be awesome
If you don’t want to then just ignore
TRI you will not get views doing this .
Anarchy The Cynic Amiibo aren’t free.
+Jeremy Seal He meant Splatoon 2 and Arms.
As for Australia I did send in a tip to Australian gaming commission for investigation with link to Jim's clip maybe just maybe that will help end EA's bullshit and stop other developers making this loot box gambling crap.
"Should you be in this business if you cannot affordably conduct business?"
Best question.
10/10
Why don't they just cut back on the fucknig photo realistic graphics LOL "games are too expensive to make" why assume we all need photorealistic han solo beard graphics???? I think honestly the games industry would thrive big time if they all rolled back graphics technology by 5 years. We might actually get complete games and feature rich gameplay experiences rather than a directors add on footage of the artists spending a year drawing darth vaders cod piece textures
Because we the consumers put an emphasis on graphics and anything not photorealistic is considered bad or niche. Thats the mainstream view.
Alex MacKelly thats very sad
Not me man, still playing 7days2die which is a DirectX9 game. But damn it's so much fun :D
Alex MacKelly
I've got the impression that it's mostly AAA companies pushing the whole photo-realism thing, I mean, just look at minecraft or virtually everything created by Nintendo, those games aren't realistic but they are still massively popular and liked by critics and audience alike.
Well now we can pay2pay2win
Games with gambling should be classified as AO under the ESRB. This would instantly fix the problem. Battlefront II is rated T (13 and up.) The 13 year olds are being let into the Star Wars casino to have at the slot machines.
www.ign.com/wikis/content-ratings/ESRB
MindsAblaze2 exactly 👍🏻
Sssssshhhh. You are being too logical and rational.
Simulated gambling falls under the T rating I believe, but this deals with real world money, so it is not simulated.
Very considerate of the uninitiated.
i'm just saying: if i saw a jimquisition meme pop out of a loot box in nothing but a bath towel, i don't know what i would do.
It's just cosmetic
"Pounding it...pounding it...pounding it..."
Ster-Dust AND a Jimquisition!? Christmas has come early!
Did anyone else get chills when Jim took the time to direct the question at other developers? Oh man I feel like I'm in the middle of something they'll write about in the history books.
+Posdrums3 Oh definitely, or at least something worth mentioning on a "history of the game industry" documentary or something. c:
"Belgium says loot boxes are gambling, wants them banned in Europe"
Hahaha even imaginary countries want them gone! (Of course I'm kidding around, Belgium is chill)
everyone here losing their mind over microtransactions and ea and i'm like...
net neutrality?
mitori SAME WTF
mitori It's possible for multiple problems with the world to exist simultaneously.
I dunno man, it seems very unsustainable... Imagine having 99 problems at once, even if a bitch ain't one, it's tough.
well... thats a strictly american problem... this one is global
good luck though
People can deal with more than one issue at a time.
Games with loot boxes should automatically be rated M or AO.
David Myers AO no questioning it
Rated M wouldn’t change things.
Visceral games, dead space, you've been avenged.
Yea... its not enough. Im sure the spirits are still restless.
I've shared your pain for quite some time.
He'll see this and angle it even more.
Yeah, it's pretty asymmetrical.
He has noticed. Mentioned it. And refused to change it at the time. 😂
I would love to buy a good Star Wars Battlefront game. I haven't even looked up a review for this game. Fuck this, I'm not buying it on principle.
Easy buy Star Wars Battlefront 2(2005).
Noxy ^This
Easy buy the ones for two generations ago. With things as is it'd likely end up cheaper to purchase a working console of that era and a copy of the previous games.
Not a single ad? God damn christmass came early this year.
I've got a 'gate-fold-style' copy of "A Bard's Tale". Amazing to think that E.A.'s name actually had meaning, once-upon-a-time.
EA: Games are so expensive we need loot boxes.
EA to investors: The removal of loot boxes will not affect earnings.
Gee I wonder why EA is the most hated company in video games?
Heres a FUN FACT Jim! We, the people who downvoted EA's response in Reddit, actually felt a SENSE OF PRIDE AND ACCOMPLISHMENT!
They helped the response reach the Guinness Book of Records! What an accomplishment!
@@darksidegryphon5393 Goodness, you should put this on your resume.
I feel like Jim should be recognised for his work on this issue... Knighthood from the Queen or something?
utopiaopera Knighthood? The guy should be given the congressional medal of honour, the nobel peace prize and a statue of him in his home town.
Sir James Stanton does have a ring to it.
He should run for Senate or come back to dingy England and try to become an MP
I didn't subscribe to see you this happy, but boy am I glad I stayed to see you this fucking happy.
Nobody expects...the second Jimquisition!
What we'll see E.A. do is come up with another name for the Loot Box, and when called out for pulling the exact same shady bullshit practices again, insist "But these aren't Loot Boxes! These are different!"
Cue Jim Sterling talking about the Simpsons episode with Malibu Stacey, now with a hat.
“We call them surprise mechanics.”
Splatoon 2 just got a big update with a lot of new content. It was FREE! Thanks Nintendo!
Raptor Dave Then they announced a new expansion, that was $20 and worth it.
@@mario12359 Exactly.
@@coreylineberry8557 I always say companies can want all the money in the world but this quote says it all. JIM STERLING: if ya want to be a fucknugget about needing additional $ ya gonna be called a fucknugget.
This was likely to pull focus from their own Mario Kart Tour shenanigans. (Jim did a video on that as well.)
If EA wants to get into gambling, then maybe they should shift to making pachinko machines and... wait, never mind...
Thank god for this..and thank GOD for Jim Sterling! XD
You can't spell steal without EA
The part that makes me laugh the most is Mickey Mouse reading the headlines and saying: "Oh, they trying to trick out my bitch without my permission? Oh, HELL NAW! EA, you done fucked with the wrong mouse! Haw Haw!"
Jim has made so much money off battlefront 2 you can call him EA
Connor Barroso I think his videos are ad free he's supported by patron.
viper1884 don't ruin the joke
He's made so much money, I'm sure he must feel a sense of pride and acomplishment.
No no no. You only feel pride and accomplishment when you SPEND lots of money.
Meh I still prefer to call him Tubby Hitler (thanks to that one comment he pointed out) :p
