- In this video, we cut our young pup loose and try to capture everything we can. Young dogs are such a pleasure to hunt because you never know what you will get! It’s great watching them mature into great hunting dogs.
Nothing like training a puppy. He did sound good on that track. Good video buddy. Love seeing young dogs do work.
Hey brother, enjoyed your video, thanks for sharing, beautiful hound, keep looking up!
One thing i would do is when he quits a track and comes back to you is go to where he quit on your garmin and look in them trees. I had a young dog one time would run a coon up a tree bark couple times then come to me. So after a few times of that i went to where he stopped there sat a coon i got the dog to tree him and shot it down and that never happened again
That very thing happened last night. He split of from my other dog, struck a track and ran it. Stopped and acted like he wanted to tree but moved on. He made a big circle and came back and threw a couple barks at a tree and I was there waiting that time. Tied him to that tree, looked up and there sat 3 coons. He still really track minded right now but the treeing will come. Also, I think the fact that there were 3 coons in the tree added to the difficulty of treeing because there was coon scent on the ground everywhere
@@olesmokyoutdoors6343 oh yea treeing will come if they can’t run a track they will never tree anything
You said it right " he is learning and I'm learning." I have learned a lot walking behind a pup figuring out how to tree coons.
I have a six month old that is the same way. Likes to keep coming back. Has no problem going to run up and tree with other dogs. Major seems to be doing pretty good. He will get it figured out. Everyone has different ways of doing it. I would keep hunting him up alone for two hunts then with other dogs on a hunt. That way they help with him with ranging out but when he is on his own he is doing the work and building his confidence up.
Very nice video
Thanks mike!
Looks like ur on the right track, just try and stay close to him and build his confidence! He's going to be a nice one!
Good looking hound 👍
When he “checks in” or “comes back” I’d buzz him and send him on and pet him up when he comes when he’s supposed to . In my experience that coming back should be stopped before 1 year old . Just my opinion.
Patience’s is key, cut him loose let him do his thing if he comes back don’t pay him any attention he will eventually get bored and go back to explore. Best dog I ever had wouldn’t get 50 yards from me till he was a over a year old finally asked a old timer what to do and he said bring a chair and some snacks and just sit and wait it out
Looking good keep doing what you’re doing!
Just keep him in the woods, he's doing great 👍
Nothing like the anticipation of waiting on a young dog to tree. You are doing the best thing you can just keep taking him alone it will end up making you a much better dog.
I'm just now getting in to coon hunting what kind of advice can u coon hunters give me
At 9 months he's looking good he'll get in deeper as he gets older and I think they need to get it done by themselves you don't want a me to dog it's a lot of work to train a pup or young dog people who never trained one doesn't understand
It takes a lot of patience and time in the woods, that’s for sure. I hunted him with my female tonight and he got split with 3 coons in the same tree. He didn’t tree real hard but I was proud of him. There was a lot of scent on the ground and I think he was more interested in that. The way I figure, the tree part will come.
Fox
Just ignore him and take a seat for a while and or like your doing do your best to get him on a hot track
Hunt him both ways maybe 2 nites solo, then take him with older dogs a couple of nights.
Just sit an wait him out don't pay any attention to him. Mite take awhile but should be fine. Just boring
Put a coon in a roll cage and watch him he will tell you what he needs
