No other song has a train track sound; (not sure about the Cure's jumping someone else's train). I mean, this was unique. Heard this at summer camp back in the 80s when i was a teen, and i just had to have this album. Dark sensual melody.
Prince's song "Train" (one of his many demo/outtakes) has a train track sound. So does "Love on a Real Train" by Tangerine Dream from the movie Risky Business.
I LOVE THIS SONG!!! Reminds me when i was in High School in California. They are hot during my Rebel days with my Rebel Friends. Having house parties in Los Angeles then cruising down sunset strip. Funny thing! i always thought Dave Gahan had me in mind when he made this song. LOL!! DM is awesome.....
Both versions are excellent, but different too. Music style of course, DM version is darker, and imho, talking about taking off the mask and being oneself, Rammstein cover is obviously talking about sex, some words/verses aren't sung. I understand pro-DM/pro-Rammstein, so many differences, music, era, attitude, everything dissociates them, but to my eyes, these two bands aren't so different, they play good tunes, that's what matters.
Much of Rammsteins lyrics are about sex, and weird shit. Rammstein made the song a more upbeat rock type song, played to their strengths. The original is more special and significant to me though. Rammstein had alot of electronic influence during their first couple albums, I wonder where all that came from.
@MaverickAC69 Yeah, I'm only 16, and only recently discovered DM, and already have a large appreciation for them. So I wouldn't say it's age - there are still adults that like the pop churned out today. Shiny Toy Guns isn't awful, but in no way matches Depeche Mode. And I"m sure STG agrees.
I'm 16 too. I heard it for the first time at 4 in 101... It stayed on my mind during 11 years, and I've at least found the name and the lyrics ... more deep than my child spirit can imagine. If a music can stay in a head of child after 11 years, it can only be a masterpiece.
@Reubenparkin The Shiny Toy Guns version is good, but its also a bit closer to the original. In my opinion, a good cover does something different from the original, which plays more to the strength of the Rammstein version. Both covers are great though.
Rammstein was not trying to do a better version, but rather do a version of their own which they have and is excellent in its own right just like the original version : )
@platin1964 I for one prefer the Rammstein version. It has a harder, more energetic tone to it. It gets me headbanging. I like that. But then again, it's just a matter of preference by style, in the end.
The end melody having a bar before the vocals come in, is so important.
One of my top 10 songs of all time. Timeless, in fact. Martin Gore is a genius.
Dave Gahan is ....

The band or artist that could top a Depeche Mode song, any song, wasn't born yet.

You killed it with that comment. Cheers mate!

Depeche Mode (in particular, Dave Gahan's singing) has always reminded me of Gregorian chants. Either way, DM rules.
I am feeling the Shiny Toy Guns version of this song. I never knew that it was a remake until I saw this posting.
ganz tolle sachen fetzt total genial
eines der besten lieder von dm!
Aweome,awe,.....😍😍😍😍
This songs ripps my heart out and tears it into little pieces. But in a very good way.

i love the synthy sound from 2:38
Let me hear you make decisions without your television...
This song has no synth bass actually. The only thing you have is the dark pad in the background all over the song.
❤❤❤🔥🔥🔥
THE song :)
@EikeMagOnkelz
MfG
1:13 loooovve the keyboard
I have listened Rammstein's version only but this original is actually pretty good
i´m breathing in fumes. epic.
DeMo is the founder of the EBM-Movement
@paulandhislivinghell
not in the studio version, but live they rock much more in my opinion
and improved! :)
De edge Mode is the best! Shiny Toy Guns made an excellent cover!
yehhh, don't compare depeche mode to rammstein ever.
true, rammstein's version is 100.000 times better
derNitto nope
@MaverickAC69 Yeah, I'm only 16, and only recently discovered DM, and already have a large appreciation for them. So I wouldn't say it's age - there are still adults that like the pop churned out today.

@0ladygodiva0
yeah!
I know this is the original version of this song and I liked it very much but shiny toy guns will always be my favorite
absolutely!!!!!!!!
@platin1964 Don't forget shiny toy guns. The had a pretty good version too :)
@Reubenparkin The Shiny Toy Guns version is good, but its also a bit closer to the original. In my opinion, a good cover does something different from the original, which plays more to the strength of the Rammstein version. Both covers are great though.
Rammstein did a great cover of this exact song and its great
Rammstein was not trying to do a better version, but rather do a version of their own which they have and is excellent in its own right just like the original version : )
@platin1964

@valhom it's probably the Rammstein fans who think their version is better than the original.
@patriasuevia I do understand especialy live is nearly to much.
:)... :)... My legs trembling if i must dance, come on do you like hunting in the woods I could climb a tree :) but please no dance :D
