*Don't take this comment seriously* "You can use any paper you want" Execpt for Printer paper Sketch paper Marker paper Coloured pencil paper Constuction paper Literally any paper but mixed media and watercolor paper Ok in all honesty i live for this tutorial it's really easy too follow and very helpful
Thanks! Lol, you could technically watercolor on any paper - and easily too with some watercolor ground :) But you're right, I was not very specific with that bit. Thanks for calling it out! Always looking to improve. Glad you liked this one :)
After watching every watercolor galaxy lesson I could find I thought I was done. So glad this came up. It's the best by far. Love the purple red one best. Purple green blue is gorgeous too.
After watching WAY TOO many galaxy background tutorials............ finally .. !! This one is FAR better than any that I have seen so far ! GREAT tutorial ! thanks ! : D
Awesome, thanks 😍💯👍, I’m going to keep practicing. I love galaxies 🌌. My favourite is the purple and green one - bottom left 😊. The fiery red 🔥one rocks too
It's impossible to pick a favorite, each one has his own beauty... you're so talented omg. I would love a tutorial on how to achieve the same result with pencils or water color pencils, can you please consider do make one? Obvious I'll keep loving and following you regardless, I'm so thankful for all the precious things you share
Amazing galaxies! My fave is the blue one! I also do love the purplish and the green ones§ You are a real master of art dear Laura! Your method of teaching is really fun and easy to follow!
Loved this Tutorial Laura!... Thanks for showing us more of your "magic" !! Loved them all but I like specially how the first "traditional" turned out...
Thank you for sharing your wonderful gift. I'm just beginning and decided to follow along and it turned out WONDERFUL! I finally have a piece I can be proud of! Thank you!!
Such pretty galaxies, Laura! My DH takes photos of deep space objects with a telescope and I’m always fascinated by the colours (which are caused by different elements). Thanks for the lovely tutorial. 😊
*THANK YOU FOR POSTING THIS* & I super appreciate that you've given 4 different examples! I've got a major case of the struggles when it comes to galaxys! I think because I'm used to drawing/painting buildings, my instinct is to make clean, crisp, STRAIGHT lines which is the COMPLETE opposite of what galaxies are lol🤦♀️😂😂
Thank you for this fantastic video Laura! It was so easy to follow, and I would never have thought of splashing masking fluid with a toothbrush! Perfect result!!
Beautiful! I love ❤ how you made 4 at once! All the different colors are amazing! I've made one ... used Winsor Newton gouache at the end for stars... which I splattered. I'm a beginner so always watch for beginner friendly videos!!! With love from a California Gramma ❤
This is another great video tutorial. I am really going to have to try this soon!! How fun!! Thank you, Laura!! I think my favorite is the yellow and red galaxy!
Thank You for your tutorials. You explain every step so fantastic that its impossible to not learn.💚💚💚 They are very helpfull!! .... and not toxic 🤣🤣💚 (I'm sorry I couldn't resist!)♥️♥️
Don't worry dear Stacey, I hope you feel better soon! The paper stayed flat because I used a similar amount of water (or very little water) with each wash. So, for the first layer, I saturated the paper completely with the same amount of water on the entire painting. Buckling happens when you use uneven quantities of water on the page at the same time. The water expands the paper fibers, and so if there's not the same amount of water on different spots, then the paper expands at different rates. That's why I prefer using a really large brush for the beginning washes and just covering that page with a ton of water! If you're using white paint, please be advised that the thickness (or the body of the paint) will determine the size of the spatter. You may want to try white acrylic ink instead. The reason I prefer masking fluid is because it allows you the option to remove the big blobs before you start, whereas spattering white at the end sometimes can ruin the beautiful galaxy you've worked hard on :) I'd love to see your wok, feel free to email me anytime with your creations so I can see! lauracolorstoo at gmail dot com.
Love this technique Laura so pretty. I do need to say that there are papers that simply cannot take the abuse of masking fluid. Even some watercolor papers don't do well with it.
If your paper can't take masking fluid alone, you might want to try the Daniel Smith Watercolor Ground.. it's saved me many times! Another idea is to use white acrylic after the fact, similar to the technique I use in my latest galaxy tutorials.
I love this tutorial Laura. I've been trying so hard to learn watercolor and galaxy's as well! I love all of these. My favorite was the purple blue green one =)
Have you ever thought about teaching? I would have loved to have you as a teacher when I was young. My first grade teacher smacked my hands for both coloring outside the lines and making my "a"" just like it appears here (Mu Dad had taught me how to read from the newspaper so I thought they were printed correctly! As an adult I drew the most elaborate doodles, frequently when trying a case when the testimony got boring!) As a result I thought I had no ability in art matters. I loved art and took Art History as a individual class my senior year but remained convinced I had no "talent" until I tried my hand at the adult coloring books a couple years ago and feel in love. I absolutely appreciate what you say about "talent" vs. "hard work". I feel sad when I think of all the years I was "artless" other than appreciating the works of others!
Thank you, I'm sorry you had teachers that didn't nurture your artistic tendencies. I do teach private lessons already! I don't teach in schools because I believe each student is unique and I tailor the lesson to the student.
This video was sooo great! I actually think I can do this now! Thanks for showing each step!! Yours are beautiful! Thanks so much!. New subscriber too❤
Can you do this without masking fluid? I have only just started collecting all the different painting supplies so right now I only have paint, brushes, paper, and rubbing alcohol. I would love for more tutorials for beginners and some on mixing colors.
You can try it with white acrylic ink, but i prefer the masking fluid because there's usually always a big unwanted splotch with the spattering effect. You can also use anything else you like at the end to add white dots: gel pen, paint marker, white acrylic paint or white gouache. I prefer this method because it lasts over time and won't fade or look less brilliant over time, but if it's not meant for hanging on the wall, get creative! Use toothpaste! There are no rules 💖
I usually use the white gouache or white acrylic paint on a soft toothbrush at the end and have found it works well. If using white acrylic, adding a tiny bit of water helps to make a fine spray.
@@alib2868 awesome! You must have more spatter skills than me! Without fail I've ruined many a galaxy that way which is why I do it this way now 😅 whatever works for you is the right way!
A quick question, Instead of doing the masking fluid detail, why don't you wait till the end & use a toothbrush with white acrylic paint and flick it across them all ?
You can do that too.. but as I've said before, I prefer this method. You can see in my tutorial that I remove the larger dots before I start to paint, acrylic at the end offers no such control. However, there's no right or wrong way to create art, I'm only showing my way. Everyone can do what they like.
Cant you just use white acrylic and a toothbrush at the end for the speckles? Seems like a beginner is more likely to have or get a 50 cent bottle of white acrylic then masking fluid.
If you'd like some extra tips or pointers, send a photo of your results to lauracolorstoo@gmail.com and I'm happy to help ❤ just know that every galaxy I create looks different than the last, and that's okay.
