I thought it was to allow for a bit of wear over time. I live in The Netherlands, almost all of my rods are two piece rods with the spigot ferrule. You should also be aware of environmental temperature differences. For example if you keep your rod in your car, assemble it and use it in an environment significantly colder, then it may be really hard to take them apart later on.
