Great video, thank you for the info!
Have you tried the Atoma diamond plates? I have one 400 grit that I exclussively use to flatten my other Shapton Kuromaku stones. I love it!
While sandpaper on a granite surface plate is a good option, I think you'll get tired of buying and replacing sandpaper.. plus it may be costly after a while!

Thanks! I have yet to try that particular brand, but I prefer the broader surface of the sandpaper, although that's just me! I did the math, and it stays a more economical option in the long run as well. It's only after several decades that the sand paper overprices the diamond lapping plates. Glad you liked the video!

Thanks for the nice vid, quick question: What is the grit of the sandpaper you use for flattening the stones after use?

my favourite is 180, but anything from 100 to 220 will do

Hi Germán, thanks for the video! I have had the shaptons in mind for some time but just like you the prohibitive price of the diamond lapping plate was highly discouraging. Now this video gives new life to that wish of having a shapton! May I ask what grid of sand paper do you use? The same for both shapton stones?
My other question about sharpening is what happens when you have a really dull or damaged edge. A water stone seems to slow for that. Perhaps some coarse diamond plate or perhaps some paper over the stone (in the scary sharp fashion) is a better option? Or just a coarse shapton? I guess you use the grinder for that cases. What's your opinion on that?
What I fear about expensive diamond plates is that they can't be rectified if and accident occours. And cheap ones aren't flat at all...
    Thanks!
