  • Celebrated scholar JOHN TYTELL on "Starting from San Francisco: Thomas Rain Crowe in Conversation with Third Mind Books":
"The seismic cultural impact of Kerouac, Ginsberg, and Burroughs was followed by a series of aftershocks. 'Starting from San Francisco' measures a vital instance of this natural process, the circle of aspiring poets around poet and publisher Thomas Rain Crowe and the resurrected 'Beatitude' magazine in the 1970's who used a small-press explosion to sustain and move beyond what their predecessors had inspired. The format here is interview and, with the commitment of one who was there and considerable sincerity, Crowe explores the dimensions of a flourishing literary excitement that deserves to be better known. The result is a singular history."
On August 4th, 2018, Third Mind Books of Ann Arbor, MI launched our debut publication, "Starting from San Francisco: Thomas Rain Crowe in Conversation with Third Mind Books" at The Beat Museum in San Francisco, CA with a 2-part event beginning with the delivery of Third Mind Books founder, Arthur S. Nusbaum's acclaimed presentation on Thomas Rain Crowe & the Second San Francisco Renaissance. Part two of the event featured a poetry reading by many of this epoch's participants who were present for this reunion/launch event. Thomas Rain Crowe, Neeli Cherkovski, Kaye McDonough, Philip Daughtry, Jack Hirschman, James Dalessandro, Barbara Szerlip, Sharon Doubiago, Anne Valley-Fox and friend of the Baby Beats, Clive Matson were all among those who contributed to this once-in-a-lifetime literary event.
