I'm a guile/JP player... My son's current role model is paladin and he'll root for paladin on everything because of course his character is also Ryu.. also anyone who plays with Ryu he'll root for you.. and he vows to beat whoever beats his role model Paladin..
I'm pretty sure that being able to do HCF for QCF motions exists so you can walk forward and do a fireball (or other HCF moves) without getting a DP. I believe KOF has the same rule.
This is cool to see his progress i remember watching him grind his ryu on stream in sfv i think i played him during one of the 6 betas and was destroyed lol
Hey Jimmy, not usually commenting but so great to see those type of videos! As a player I feel I'm miles away from analyzing my opponent in matches and it really helps understanding why I fail and succeed in matches the more I see you explaining. Anyway thanks for the video, hyped to see more like this in the future!
Crazy run and fun to watch your thoughts. Honestly as for the inputs on that final crosscut, assuming Paladin is still on pad that’s just how the inputs look in the heat of the moment sometimes, haha. Still worked
I was technically just talking about the Manon set as it was the only one I hadn't seen previously but you're definitely right in general I take SO LONG lol Don't wanna change it up though as I don't see many other streamers taking the time to do an in depth analysis of pro sets like this.
I like watching your shorts but I also enjoyed this video and the other video discussing the DLC pricing. While I enjoy the crazy comeback shorts, these types of videos are also cool
Punk did say he's probably not going to go through the LCQ which is odd because he's usually really strong in pools. But then again there are a LOT of strong players that didn't make it that will be in the LCQ.
Solid video format for you man! Not to be rude, but I don't normally sit through the entirety of your videos but this was over an hour and I watched the whole thing - That factoid about the half circle priority actually blew my mind. Is that a well known thing at high level? It feels like something Punk would be aware of if that was the case? Look forward to more high level breakdowns like this in the future
I'm the same. So many of the videos are called like 'this Ryu combo is really good' and the video is 24 minutes long, like ok is it a 24-minute-long combo? But this video? Watched the whole thing, solid gold.
Thanks for your feedback! I understand not wanting to sit through my stream highlights videos... they are a great way to keep up with the live streams and only see the "highlights" but I totally understand not sitting through all of them! As for the technical knowledge among top players: Most players don't know much about the technical side of street fighter so I'm almost 100% sure Punk didn't know about it. I will try to make more videos explaining technical edge cases like this one! Also gonna be doing more analysis videos and tutorials in general!
@@mdz_jimmy I didn't mean to disparage your content, I just think that for me, this was one of your best videos. Regarding that technical knowledge, It was interesting to note that it was someone in your chat that brought it up - where does one even learn something like that? Did you just pick it up from grinding out the game or what? I am honestly looking forward to more analysis videos from you in the future.
@@jonmac1987 I actually discovered the input myself by accident on my stream and was planning to make a video about it. I just didn't realize right away that's what happened to Punk so someone in chat brought it up and it finally "clicked". Big chunks of SF6 have been reverse engineered already so we know a lot about what's going on under the hood! You can read up on some technical stuff from a very respected software engineer here: rentry.co/35ch3
@@mdz_jimmyOh believe me, I sit through all of them. I see how I gave the impression that I don't, and that wasn't my intention. That said, this current video was stand-out excellent and hit a level of analytical detail that I've hardly ever seen for a fighting game. You raised the bar.
1:10:02 Good eye, I never actually noticed you could combo standing LK after LP Hashogeki with this meaty setup that makes it +7F on a normal hit (usually only +2F). I tend to just look for the counter hit that causes a juggle state. It looks like standing LK is the only continuation option here since you're pushed out of range of your crouching MP and other stubbier buttons that are 7F or less.
Damn that DP situation was brutal. A rob like that can mentally destroy you for a whole set sometimes. Especially if you don't know what happened and then you lose confidence in your own executions
It wasn't a rob, it was an input error. He's a pro, so it's on him for not knowing about the forward -> HCF -> fireball vs. forward -> QCF -> DP mechanic.
@56:30 I'm pretty sure this was the case in SF4 and SF5 as well. Or for whatever reason I had this knowledge for a decade now that walking and then half-circle forwards creates consistent fireballs.
has never been an issue on high level play though for SFIV or SFV. You can always manually delay but I can see it being better with the new input. It's still kinda crazy to think this change had a massive negative impact at a tournament.
@jimmy hows it bro. The match i enjoyed was Du vs Paladin as i main Guile, that was a sick match by Nuckledu, but Paladin is an amazing Ryu player no doubt!!
1:09:03 i don't think he is reacting. I think he fakes a fireball with hashogeki to bait the perfect parry into drive rush buffer. I think he was just buffering the medium punch to hit the drive rush.
This is an absolute joke, and to everyone here just following the E-celeb narrative. Every time one of these on screen commentators try to suggest that these players are making "mistakes" or don't have the correct or enough "execution" you go F-off to some other genre, and never come back.
All the DPs can AA, Light just comes out the fastest and has the most air invincibility frames. Sometimes you want to use Heavy because it travels horizontally more.
They played before and Walker destroyed him. However that was a few months back. I think it would be close. But would give the edge to Walker. He may not want to even do the mirror match, and would rather play DJ against paladin.
It's a tradeoff. If you are doing easier combo'sn you have more brain for thinking about actually playing. It's a tradeoff that Daigo often makes. What use is optimal if performing it is sketchy, or stresses your attention span.
punk sucks at this game, because he relies on safe pokes and set plays too much. you cant do this when a game has a refined parry system, that's why he also sucks in 3s
Whats crazy is that this is even a thing, considering how often you can go from down back to DP. That said, Punk plays on pad, so one could argue maybe his input should've been a bit cleaner, unless its an old game habit he developed.
Teenage years is when most of your traumatic experiences tend to happen. In this case, Paladin is clearly traumatized by burning himself out and then dropping a combo lol Still though, he adapted his play style and it's gotten him pretty damn far. I might even follow his lead. Burnout sucks way too much. Only if I can guarantee the kill ofc
Please follow Paladin, he truly deserves the support:

You need to make a clip or short of what you said before Punk's match started. It was very well spoken.
I did watch the match on nuckledu stream and his guile is fucking monster, he is really ready for capcom cup
Yeah I will be doing a seperate analysis on that match! Nuckledu is a beast!
Imagine he wins the first sf6 capcom and the first sf5 capcom Cup
His Guile is a beast, but he only won because he understands Guile’s bad matchups and has a pocket Cammy.
