Critics are cruel. I don't pay attention to what they say. You were absolutely wonderful! I absolutely adored Anthony Newley. He was such a brilliant, yet childlike man. So very handsome and charming.
Rhonda, he always had a wild voice. That was a great part of his individuality. He sounded wonderful here. You my dear, what a joy to finally see some of this as well. It’s been part of my imagination since you first told me about it. What a joy to see and hear you in this with one of my idols. Thank you. ❤️🌹
I don't think Australians to the most part realised how extensive your work has been. You'd show up on Hey Hey or the Logies and tests all they thought you did. Not knowing you would be flying back from a season or three of a major show 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
So interesting, Rhonda. Thank you for this. I remember seeing it, as a great fan of the show. I recall the set was rather dreary when it should have been a bright circus...Yes, the gender war exploration doesn't date that well, although it may be said that Littlechap constantly comes off second best. (Look at the revival of Aspects for sudden all round queasiness about a 30 year old show.) I adored Anthony Newley and I considered this show a masterpiece- one of the great English musicals. But I have to say it was Newley that was the problem here...young and bumptious can play this Jack the Lad; but a pensioner lusting after chorus girls sent chills around the Lyric Theatre. Worse- he couldn't sing it any more. This score needs, or deserves, a real voice, and it just sank into nothing...
Why didn't Newley/production team play up the "datedness"- present it as a "period piece" so the audience would get that what was socially acceptable in the 60's was not being thought to be so in the 80's? But it was a period in history (theatrically and in life) that happened and should be appreciated as such!
I was with you Ms. Burchmore until you introduced the weird puppet and imitate Newley to try to get likes. I didn't care for that at all (just my opinion).

Love me some Rhonda’s Rewind!

Not the late 60s. London 1961 and opened on Broadway in 1962.
Is this all you took from the entire episode?
@@jamescarrollau Yes.
Move over Adele Dazeem, her comes Rouda Brickmoor!
