they look a bit like the x-vert series forks, I did find a service manual for that(ordered the forks off ebay and so doing a bit of research), might say how to remove the aluminum piece
That bike is in really minte condition.
I think I was very lucky to pick up a dirty dusty bike, yet it had a quite an easy life.
