Great performances. I can appreciate this work on paper. But to actually see and hear it performed. I’d climb up the walls with frustration. It just is not holistically listenable for me. But in parts - lovely, wonderful, delicious, sublime.

I find it easier listening to the music and not worry about making out the words.

Oedipus Rex is not a cantata nor a ballet - eg Les Noces. It is an opera/oratorio which means that it can be staged as an opera or a symphonic concert. This staging has nothing to do with what the authors (Stravinsky and Cocteau) very clearly wrote, giving even some sketches about scenography. Absolutely off context. I really wonder how much the director knows about this work.
