    hello there, I happened to come across your video looking for gemstone tester reviews. And it stuck to me that you mentioned that you will need to have some knowledge on gemstones. do you have any suggestions on any books or to look into or what's the best source to learn on gems? this video was very helpful btw.

      Thanks - there are dozens on the market, I would start on ebay -look for good glossy photos and details- books are expensive, I always buy used when possible. There are good educational channels here on RUclips. If you want education, steer very clear of auctions/selling videos; many are ill informed and sinister to say the least. Jason Adams is an exceptional channel - do check his channel out- bring a note pad he is a metal smith and jewelry aficionado- he detests the word "expert" but between you and I, he gets awfully close to that adjective.

    Your amethyst test worked. The needle doesn't move to the word amethyst, it only moves along the black line below Quartz, Citrine, Amethyst. Since it went to the right edge of the line, it's indicating amethyst. If it sits more toward the left end of the line it's quartz. And in the middle is citrine. I do find it interesting that those 3 stones are in a different order on the Presidium tester. Just don't remove it "onto" anything...🤣

      Was coming here to say this. LOL. I kept willing Thelma to hear me saying, "No! It's working fine!" Haha. You want the needle to go into those black bars and the words above each bar indicate what possible stones register within that black bar but the words are just longer than the area the needle should land. Great video. Thanks

    Hi, just to comment about the confusion when you try amethyst, Both quartz, citrine and amethysts are from the family of quartz. That’s why it marks it. The word amethyst so I see on the screen, s written under jade, but it belongs to the next row.

    I always assumed that the higher on the persidium the more valuable but the tanzanite is lower then amethyst and I thought that tanzanite was a higher value gemstone?

    • @possumfriend2335
      @possumfriend2335 Год назад +3

      It just measures the hardness of the stone on the mohs scale, it doesn't really say anything about value because each gemstone has characteristics that increase their value that have nothing to do with that.

    • @possumfriend2335
      @possumfriend2335 Год назад +3

      Oh, I meant to mention for example Tanzanite is only sources from one known mine, and that mine is estimated to be fully mined in under 40 years. Rarity is one aspect that determines value, but even then the color, clarity, etc, will determine the value within those.

    • @loridietrich2369
      @loridietrich2369 Год назад

      ty possum I knew about tanzanite that's why I was asking but you answerednmy ? that hardness has nothing to do with value. Rarity does along with clarity.

    Your categories will have the names above them with the black line below. Ignore the writing below your black line. Anything in the quartz family could test in the same range. I think your pink and purple ring is beautiful and the pink could be morganite. If you have a morganite, see where it goes on the tester, then compare test results.❤😊And your Yurman Amethyst is in the black line range of Qtz/Citrine/Amethyst.
    Just pay attention to the black line and the words above it.
