Really good video and so very well presented, thank you! I can attest that they last forever. We inherited one from my Father-In-Law who purchased it shortly after the war while stationed in Germany. We run it all the time and it goes on perfectly still and has never needed to be serviced. I recently took it into a reputable trained cuckoo clock repair shop in the USA, and they only oiled it and said everything still looks perfect! Awesome clocks and so neat to look at and enjoy too. On my last visit to the Black Forrest I purchased one of the large 8 day clocks. We love the clock and your description of the better things to look for in a high quality clock are the things that we now appreciate. All hand carved with hand shingled roof, hand carved figures and wooden dial parts are beautiful. Ours has a water wheel (dry) a bar maid and two patrons and a Saint Bernard. The trees are the latter one that you pointed out , in addition to a balsa tree that Adolf Herr carved for us on our first river cruise. In addition, we purchased three of the smaller one day wind which were gifts to our family members. Memories! 👍👨🦳🇨🇦

I'm American but my German Grandfather was a collector of Antique clocks. Our house was like old Doc Brown's place, ticking and chiming all day and night. As a kid, I had an antique Black Forest cuckoo clock in my bedroom. Grandpa would wind up the three weights every morning. I loved it. I think it had a bird on the right and a deer on the left. One of these days I want to get myself one as an adult. Probably the kind that look like old German lodges. Such beautiful creations.
We have been to the Black Forest on 3 visits, from 1990 to 2002 and bought cuckoo clocks, each visit. Marcus gave a great deal of good advice and in perfect English ! Thanks for the interesting video! I sorta inherited my great aunt’s very simple, very typical, one-day cuckoo clock. I used to love it as a kid in the 70s. I don’t remember when she said she got it but I imagine it must have been made in the 50s or 60s maybe. It says “made in Germany” but I see nothing at all about the Black Forest. Are these/were they made in several places around Germany at one if it does not say Black Forest? Thank you!

I so would love to be there. We bought a cuckoo clok in Germany in 1958 and it is still here. No one in Patagonia, Argentina services them. Regards from a zone very similar to the Black Forest.

Hello Victoria, the pendulum pretty much works like a second timer on your watch. You only have to make a adjustment here when the clocks runs to fast or to slow. It the clocks works normal, there is no need to change something on the pendulum. Hello Jason, well lets say it this way. The music clock of course is made also to play the music. Specially with a 8 day clock, it could be that the clock it not leveled out correctly, so i does not run good. If you take of the weight for the music, the clock will still work and function thats absolutely correct. It also should not damage the clock, but i would not recommend it. Cheers Markus

If you have two 8 day clocks with the cuckoo, the hour/half hour strike, and the music box and one of the clocks has a basic finishing and the other has a nice finishing will the nicer clock also have a better movement or are the movements going to be the same?
Hello, different Manufactures also use different ways how the movements work. The mechanism inside the clock, if it is from the Black Forrest with a VDS Certificate, should be the same

I need someone to help me out!! I bought my mother a Cuckoo Clock that was Manufactured by Anton Schenider between 2001-2007. I paid $3,500.00 to $4,000.00 for it. It is an 8-Day Clock & I ordered it with that Wooden Weight Option they are big & Heavy for them (3) of them. It is the Hunters Edition. So here is the main trouble right above the Music Box is a white colored Battery Box that users (1) D-Cell Battery that the Box has (2) Electric Wires a red wire & a blue wire that goes to a silver Colored Electric Motor & there are a lot of White Colored Plastic Gears in the Gear Box Assembly. I think my Mother called it the Bird Call? But there was no way to shut the Cuckoo Bird off at night because there was no black Lever on the Left side on the Outside. It’s been sitting in a Carboard box since 2008. This is an oversized Cuckoo clock. I ordered it with a special Pendalum also. Can someone please help me out on getting this Clock to work again!! It’s got a Ragina movement. There is no rust anywhere inside the Clock. I live in Minnesota & no one here can help me out. It was bought in Iowa. I picked it out of a Store Catalog/Brochure. Who can help me out?

Hello Raymond, thanks a lot. On the Battery / Quartz clock, it really makes a big difference what batteries you put in. The brand name battery usually last much longer. The Cheaper ones also work, but you have to change them more often. Cheers Markus
Cc clocks dont last forever. They need deep cleaning every 10 years or so and the movt. parts do wear out. Some of the newer clocks use plastic parts in the movt and break easily. Be cautious buying a newer German clock-older is better!

I was thinking of buying one for a Christmas present for my wife but we have a cat so the weights would be an attraction for him,probably ruin the clock.😢
Don't buy an 8-day cuckoo clock that has 2 or 3 weights. Why? because the manufacturers are stupid. They make this clock that has to have a 12-foot ceiling for you to wind it once a week. and you have to have a ladder if you are not taller than 5'6" to set the dial. Forget seeing the animation it's too high. Now if you don't mind winding it twice a week then you can put it at any height.
Hey Spacecowboy, i dont know where you got your Infos from. Recommend is a hight to hang the clock around 5,5 - 6 foot. Then the Chain also has enough room and the 8 day Clocks can be pulled Up ones a week. If you dont have this recommend hight, or a hard time seeing it. Then of Course you also can hang the clock lower. This also shortens the Chain, so it hast to BE windend more often. Thats absolutely right. Wish you the best Cheers Markus

Hello Jason, well lets say it this way. The music clock of course is made also to play the music. Specially with a 8 day clock, it could be that the clock it not leveled out correctly, so i does not run good. If you take of the weight for the music, the clock will still work and function thats absolutely correct. It also should not damage the clock, but i would not recommend it. Cheers Markus

Hello Yoyo, on the bigger clock yes. They have a automatic shut off, where you can silence the clock for 12 hours ones it is set. Like from 8pm till 8am in the morning. cheers Markus

Hello Barry, it is Always 1 cuckoo at the half hour and the full cuckoo in the hour. So if it is 9 oclock it will cuckoo 9 Times.
I have a cuckoo with one pine. Is it broken? It works perfectly, I'm just curious. It also doesn't have a door for the cuckoo bird to get out, but I can't see any rivets in the place that the door should be.
Maybe then you have a mechanic clock, and only one for the time. The secound one is usually for the cuckoo.

If you have two 8 day clocks with the cuckoo, the hour/half hour strike, and the music box and one of the clocks has a basic finishing and the other has a nice finishing will the nicer clock also have a better movement or are the movements going to be the same?
Hello, different Manufactures also use different ways how the movements work. The mechanism inside the clock, if it is from the Black Forrest with a VDS Certificate, should be the same

I need someone to help me out!! I bought my mother a Cuckoo Clock that was Manufactured by Anton Schenider between 2001-2007. I paid $3,500.00 to $4,000.00 for it. It is an 8-Day Clock & I ordered it with that Wooden Weight Option they are big & Heavy for them (3) of them. It is the Hunters Edition. So here is the main trouble right above the Music Box is a white colored Battery Box that users (1) D-Cell Battery that the Box has (2) Electric Wires a red wire & a blue wire that goes to a silver Colored Electric Motor & there are a lot of White Colored Plastic Gears in the Gear Box Assembly. I think my Mother called it the Bird Call? But there was no way to shut the Cuckoo Bird off at night because there was no black Lever on the Left side on the Outside. It’s been sitting in a Carboard box since 2008. This is an oversized Cuckoo clock. I ordered it with a special Pendalum also. Can someone please help me out on getting this Clock to work again!! It’s got a Ragina movement. There is no rust anywhere inside the Clock. I live in Minnesota & no one here can help me out. It was bought in Iowa. I picked it out of a Store Catalog/Brochure. Who can help me out?

Hello Raymond, thanks a lot. On the Battery / Quartz clock, it really makes a big difference what batteries you put in. The brand name battery usually last much longer. The Cheaper ones also work, but you have to change them more often. Cheers Markus

Cc clocks dont last forever. They need deep cleaning every 10 years or so and the movt. parts do wear out. Some of the newer clocks use plastic parts in the movt and break easily. Be cautious buying a newer German clock-older is better!
Hello Robert, may I ask from where you have your information? Or the company/manufacture if the cuckoo clocks that you mention have plastic parts? All of the clocks that we carry do not have plastic parts! Maybe you mean the battery operated ones , correct these have plastic parts but we do not mention them in our explanation / video !

Don't buy an 8-day cuckoo clock that has 2 or 3 weights. Why? because the manufacturers are stupid. They make this clock that has to have a 12-foot ceiling for you to wind it once a week. and you have to have a ladder if you are not taller than 5'6" to set the dial. Forget seeing the animation it's too high. Now if you don't mind winding it twice a week then you can put it at any height.
Hey Spacecowboy, i dont know where you got your Infos from. Recommend is a hight to hang the clock around 5,5 - 6 foot. Then the Chain also has enough room and the 8 day Clocks can be pulled Up ones a week.
If you dont have this recommend hight, or a hard time seeing it. Then of Course you also can hang the clock lower. This also shortens the Chain, so it hast to BE windend more often. Thats absolutely right. Wish you the best Cheers Markus
@@steinsandclocks I bought it new from a repair shop it came NEW in a box but has to be hung 11 feet for it to be 8 day. any lower and the weights will touch the floor and stop. The paper work is HETTICH U.H.R.E.N #8MT-60-JAEGER Thanks for your reply.

I looked and all his clocks have to be wound twice a week. not 8 days. I can't make overseas calls so I am stuck. I don't know what the deal but all his cho cho clocks had long. chains. The clock is brand new from HETTICH in germiny
Then something is not correct. If you search for hettich Uhren, a 8 day clock always needs 1 winding in a week. Wish you the best
