Can you do a video on how you store food? I noticed you had the parsley rolled in kitchen roll and placed in a zip lock. I'd like to see other useful tips like that
Don’t know if you googled or anything yet, but the best way to keep most “soft non-drying” herbs (parsley, cilantro/coriander, chives, scallions, ) I put mine into mason jars filled with cold water, then put a clear plastic bag over top of them lightly, cilantro and parsley will literally last for much longer than needed
Butchered my first chicken last night, just finished my first home made chicken soup, I was amazed how much meat came off the bird, these butchers must be making a fortune! Mac in Manchester England
I also made my first chicken noodle soup thanks to this video, I tried to make it as similar to how you show in this video as possible but minus the fennel, cauliflower, and and corn. It was the most delicious chicken noodles soup I've ever had, and one of the most delicious food I've ever had . Never buying Campbell's again And I really just wanna say how much I appreciate your channel because I would never have learned that from a cookbook or anywhere else
Your One Dish Breakdown of the stir fry was one of the biggest influences to get me to cook without staring at a recipe all the time, and this video has all the same vibes. Thanks for consistent, quality content that is teaching us all to be pro home cooks
I love your channel so much. I've always had trouble finding foods I like but have never been a great cook. With your tips it makes it so much easier to play around with ideas and not feel like I am just wasting a dish and forcing myself to eat my mistakes...literally.
I miss your videos on the pantry / no new groceries challenge! It helped me see how creative you were and how creative I could be! Would love to see that challenge again!!
Made this today , did not go exactly to plan about like you said its not about copying and pasting. Food still turned out great because the foundation was there. Thanks alot.
I can’t stop being amazed at your videos, and your approach to cooking. I could almost genuflect! Thank you for inspiring home cooks everywhere. Your ideas about how to use a whole chicken rock!
Thanks for this series.....I can take a whole chicken and make 6 things. One making the chicken oil and two crunches chicken skin for a snack. Three the chicken breast and quarters for lunches. Four some of the cartilage, I break up + the wing and leg to make barbacue body parts. Five the rest of the cartilage with frozen vegetables part I had in the freezer make a small chicken vegetables broth. Six I take the small liver and make a pate. Cook the liver, saute dice onions, and celery in the chicken fat. In a food processor I'll add a strong cheese. I used feta .... add parsley, garlic, and acidity like sherry vinegar. Also add butter...and palse the food processor. Put in the fridge so it comes together and make it spreadable. Thanks for the inspiration.
Bro, I need to thank you for your videos. Im enjoying cooking and making bomb food! This vid in particular is really huge for me. I’m only ever getting whole chicken anymore. And orange chicken and chicken noodle are so staple. Tip: I use the tenderloin also for the orange chicken. I can make my family of 4 about 5 delicious meals for around $40. (mind you my kids are still really little* but...) Practically dinner for almost a whole week and we’re eating better than ever. It’s brought so much joy and value to our home. Thank you so much.
The kitchen looks amaaaazing!! You can see the care and thought put into every component. Just like your food! Thanks for the amazing content, as always :)
I went on a hunt to learn how to cut up a whole chicken, and I am so thankful I found this channel. I hated meal prep with the same food over and over again. I realized watching a few videos how to use a lot of what I already had on hand. changed how I eat during the week, and I am so thankful.
So cool of a series - thank you kind sir. I'm all for making something really involved and time consuming, but becoming a pro HOME cook is also very much about making something delicious efficiently while being creative with what's available in your kitchen.
I just find your channel a week ago, and I really glad to watch it Upgrading the daily cooking menu to be more special with reasonable budget Tried the roasting method for making chicken broth, now my kitchen smells heavenly delicious 🤤
Thanks for the recipes! We buy whole chickens all the time, but usually roast them whole, or buy them rotisserie and shred a lot of it up. I'm am surely going to try these with a whole chicken sometime!
Loved the first video. I went to costco and bought two nice raw whole chickens for $10. I cut them myself, made my schmaltz and almost a gallon of amazing chicken stock. I'm 100% sold on buying whole chickens.
I am so excited to try this recipe for my husband and 4 little boys. I don’t have carrots on hand at home but I have sweet potatoes.. would that work as a substitute? I have learned so much by watching your videos and you are helping a tired Momma find more passion in cooking for her family. Thank you for sharing your knowledge. God bless you, your wife, and baby. Keep staying healthy and safe.
This is a great series you started. We just started buying whole chicken a lot to for our family and we've been making a lot of stock and chicken soup too. These videos are educational and inspirational. I love the idea on how to feed your family through the week. Keep it up!!
I've been binge watching your videos for the last few days. It started because I got my first air fryer. But now I'm encouraged to up my game with cooking. I have special challenges because I'm a full time RVer living in a 14' camper without a freezer and limited space and power. Challenge accepted! Perhaps you'd consider a series with those limitations. 😉
I've been watching your channel over the past few years and it makes me happy to see the quality, progress, and growth your channel has come to be. My favorite cooking channel on RUclips! Stay awesome!
Thank you so much for this! I tried cooking for myself years ago and just gave up coz all the ingredients in recipes are so expensive and it doesnt quite turn out as good as id like. This series has inspired me, and I’m gonna save a lot of money, while also not wasting meat. Thank you!
when we make Mexican Caldo we add corn in small round slices. the cob adds flavor. you could add the cob(s) early in the soup then the kernels later. i call schmaltz kosher manteca. love your vids.
Aloha Mike, just found you site, GREAT! In Costco one day I'm buying a couple large pkgs of bacon, and a chef ask me about my prep? I smoke it! He told me about brining, so I gave it a try. Wow! But chicken is even better brined! Two gal freezer bag, one gal water (measured) with 1/2 cup each salt and sugar. 24 hours later to hickory cold smoke for 3-1/2 hrs. Now any of the recipes you talk about take on even more flavor profiles! But my favorite is with Nondo's hot peri peri sauce, brush into the chicken, salt and pepper and grill. My wife don't like chicken, but ask for this every week! AB said on his show it was the best chicken he had ever eaten! Just remember to not stand in the smoke when you put it on the hot grill! Mahalo, Jordan
Today in Cape Town I learnt how to section a chicken. I made the orange chicken today and It was amazing. I always used to buy the breasts and never knew how versatile the rest of the bird was. Thank you Mike for sharing such a wonderful meal. Your generously sharing your knowledge is priceless. Thank you for the gift.
Wow... definitely going to buy a whole chicken, make the stock, Orange Chicken and the soup. I love cooking, and you have inspired me to a whole new level!!! Love your videos and techniques. Thank you so much 😊
I really enjoy what you are doing with this series as it's freshening up my approach. As empty nesters it's easy to get lazy/bored and make the same old thing in the same old way. My husband makes the soup stock and freezes it so that we always have some for soup or adding to recipes. I like the idea of adding fennel to the soup base - such an interesting flavour and I will have to give it a try. One suggestion on the soup - try adding rice instead of noodles. I prefer rice to noodles and it makes for a nice change. In our house the base is made and then divided between the two of us and we can then add in our own veggies and starches (rice or noodles) based on personal preferences.
This might just be my favorite video of the week! This weekend is about to get interesting 😁. I'm also glad you pointed out that we don't have to stick with the veggies you used for the chicken soup 👍
I debone the drumsticks too. Gives me more dark meat for my stir fries. Use the carcass for stock and save up the wings till I have enough to grill. Breast goes on a dinner salad.
Vegetarian here and head of the meat eating family, i will definitely try it! I was able to butcher a fish, why not a chicken. Btw i hope your wife and child are safe ❤
love the techniques, flavours, inspiration on everything, great job! The only thing I would have loved to see is to get a real good rice cooker to just elevate the quality of the rice cooked!
I have butchered three chickens since the first video and I just made the chicken noodle soup with random ingredients I had on hand. It was delicious. I love the videos because I feel like I am not just making a recipe but I am really learning how to cook!
Home made Jewish penicillin a.k.a. Chicken soup. When we make the stock it’s using the whole chicken. Like you’ve done with yours using the bone(s) releases the collagen from the joints and other minerals as well and that’s why true chicken soup is so good for ones health. Bone adds a lot of flavour. Great video, thank you!
My boyfriend normally hates any chicken we make at home but last night I made orange chicken the way you described (slightly altered the sauce based in what I had) and he loved it!! Said it looked like restaurant chicken but tasted fresher!
This is great. I think you should do a lot more "whole animal" series. Of course, you're unlikely butcher a whole cow by yourself, but it's about using the wider spectrum.
So much good cooking technique in this video! Although Mike is demonstrating a recipe, he is actually teaching HOW to cook. Once you understand the "hows" and "whys", the cooking world opens up to you! I don't like most cooking shows because they focus primarily a recipe rather than technique. Great job!
You woke me up to whole chicken cooking. The stock from the carcass is awesome, and a $6-10 bird can feed me for almost a week. Absolutely insane. The dark meat is so fatty/greasy/calorie-laden, but it's so good... Would love to see some low-cal recipes.
I enjoyed your video’s 1 & 2. I think the orange chicken is the first I’m going to try!!! I never understood why my chicken was so hard to crisp up. Never realized water was stopping it 😫😫
7:00, When you take the lid off the cooked rice pan just wait for 2-3 minutes before using the spoon/fork to fluff up the rice. Every grain of rice will be separated instead of sticking with eachother...
Im a new sub and I absolutely need these recipes. Its stuff that I can have since I'm on a diet. Great now im hungry and in mid shift at work. Hats off to the chief 👏
Chicken is one of the most versatile protein ingredients out there, and you can make so many delicious recipes with just one chicken! 🤤 Mmm yum that orange chicken! And the chicken noodle soup is next level!
this ch has come so far in terms of production but I love how it's stayed the same great source of info and all things home cooking!
Can you do a video on how you store food? I noticed you had the parsley rolled in kitchen roll and placed in a zip lock. I'd like to see other useful tips like that
I second this!
Yes please!
I was literally just thinking this
@@drewgalbraith4499 I imagine that water can be used for something afterwards, haha!
where is part 3? I loved parts 1 and 2; thank you so much!
these looks great and love your philosophy on looking at other recipes for inspirations and ratios more than just following a set of instructions.
Butchered my first chicken last night, just finished my first home made chicken soup, I was amazed how much meat came off the bird, these butchers must be making a fortune! Mac in Manchester England
Manchester let’s gooo .
I also made my first chicken noodle soup thanks to this video, I tried to make it as similar to how you show in this video as possible but minus the fennel, cauliflower, and and corn. It was the most delicious chicken noodles soup I've ever had, and one of the most delicious food I've ever had .
Never buying Campbell's again
And I really just wanna say how much I appreciate your channel because I would never have learned that from a cookbook or anywhere else
I can't wait for "whole cow" series :)
I think "whole fish" series is more fun
whole cow and whole pig
Yesss
yesssssss
It is not a good idea. Too expensive and impractical as you need to have a lot of extra storage space. Chicken series is practical and workable.
I love the sign over your door. Is that really showing when your local buses and trains are due? How cool is that!
I noticed that as well. Awesome stuff !
Loved this! And especially the part about bc ok’ing for your wife post party- so wonderful! And also the them of “nourish”- love that
Your One Dish Breakdown of the stir fry was one of the biggest influences to get me to cook without staring at a recipe all the time, and this video has all the same vibes. Thanks for consistent, quality content that is teaching us all to be pro home cooks
You should make a soup series! There were so many helpful tips in here wow! 😱
I love the sounds of the knife cuts and sizzle in the pan. Makes me want to get in that kitchen and hook something up!
I can’t stop being amazed at your videos, and your approach to cooking. I could almost genuflect! Thank you for inspiring home cooks everywhere. Your ideas about how to use a whole chicken rock!
Did u ever make a part 3? Really enjoyed the first two.
Nice studio. Loved the Brown stones I saw in your walk. It’s one of the things I miss about some areas of New York. Thanks for sharing
My man, you really have inspired and encouraged me to take my already passable home-cooking skills to a higher level! Thanks so much for this!!
Thanks for this series.....I can take a whole chicken and make 6 things. One making the chicken oil and two crunches chicken skin for a snack. Three the chicken breast and quarters for lunches. Just discovered the channel - ABSOLUTELY FREAKING LOVING IT!
Thanks for this series, the quality is off the roof!

Cannot wait for part 3!
Thank you for your leadership. The content is awesome.
About time part 2 came out! I've been waiting for this since first seeing part 1 👍
Love all your videos and how precise you show everyone your recipes and ideas.
Loved the first video. I went to costco and bought two nice raw whole chickens for $10. I cut them myself, made my schmaltz and almost a gallon of amazing chicken stock.
I'm 100% sold on buying whole chickens.
"Thats a good dinner for two"
Plates the whole thing for one XP
looks about how much I would eat in one sitting.
Hey, he "was" alone-lol. Honestly, that was way too much for one. I would have had 1/2 of that + a nice side salad & it would be perfect.
That's a perfect one person serving for someone I know 😆
Don’t act like we ain’t all been there
Was just going to say the same thing….. I would skip the rice and eat the chicken myself.
Amazing chicken soup recipe! Best soup I've ever made, thanks for the tip about texture Mike

Love making soups even in my hot humid summers in the south. My office is seriously a meat locker, so soups always a go to lol
Wow... definitely going to buy a whole chicken, make the stock, Orange Chicken and the soup. I love cooking, and you have inspired me to a whole new level!!! Love your videos and techniques. Thank you so much 😊
I have a very similar recipe for this soup I add sour cream and mash it all in a soup puree & I have it with popcorn too. Love it!!!! ❤

Wow, there are still people who can cook like my granny! Awesome!
I enjoyed your video’s 1 & 2. I think the orange chicken is the first I’m going to try!!! I never understood why my chicken was so hard to crisp up. Never realized water was stopping it 😫😫
Wow I can't believe how good you make chicken look.
