When I was a kid my grand father lived right near the canal in Thorold ON. My dad used to take me to watch the ships pass through the locks. Although I’ve long since moved out of the province I still love to watch these beasts…and 1000 foot lakers travel the seaway. .
Yeah that would be cool. There's already multiple cameras at each lock, so it's really just a matter of the seaway making the cameras record 24/7 with online public access.
Yes it is. The Niagara River which runs along the Canada/USA border also connects Lake Erie to Lake Ontario, but Niagara Falls makes it impassable for ship traffic.
Every single bridge that crosses the welland canal has a WCH e-bell as the warning signal when the bridge is about to raise. Several years back some of them had mechanical bells, but they recently replaced them.
@@elevators_of_southern_ontario We got lift bridges from where I'm at in Cleveland Ohio the carter Rd lift bridge, Columbus Rd lift bridge and the center swing bridge have mechanical bells over at the Cleveland Flats.
On which day was this. The Federal Sakura is discharged in Amsterdam and loaded with steel products in IJmuiden by Tata Steel buka 3. August 20 leaves this Federal Sakura IJmuiden Greet from a portworker in Amsterdam.
If they didn't,it would mean having to use lake freighters, and then transhipping cargo onto ocean going vessels, which would make the freight costs prohibitively expensive.

Very beautiful this different kinds of bridge Cargo ships can pass through.👍
Yeah
I am a fan of the Duluth Harbor cam they need a live cam here. It really gives a person a idea of just how BIG these ship are.

Nicely done, without the assistance of tugs.
As far as I know, tugs are only used when there's a mechanical problem with a vessel that prevents it from moving entirely.
Great video. 👍Very interesting!
Thank you!
It’s very interesting to me as bridge operator to see different bridges! Big thanks like to my fellow RUclipsr!
Glad you liked the video! I plan on getting one video from each drawbridge that crosses the Welland canal over the next few months. There are 6 more.

So do I understand correctly that the Welland Canal is the only ship passage way from Lake Erie to Lake Ontario?
Yes it is. The Niagara River which runs along the Canada/USA border also connects Lake Erie to Lake Ontario, but Niagara Falls makes it impassable for ship traffic.
Was the Welland Canal man-made or a natural waterway?
@@topgeardelMan-made.
Do these ships have bow thrusters to help keep straight through the locks?
I don't know.
I didn't know this bridge have the western cullen hayes e-bell.
