This is wonderful thanks, I was really saddened by the whole Wynyard upgrade. The hunter connection is the best bit. The little shops and the food court and everything a business man needs a strip club in a station and the cool aesthetic will be missed. I thought I was the only one who loved it and your walkthrough made my day. Now I can visit it here whenever I like
In the 80s we used to use the Hunter Connection to meet up with contacts and agents we were running because it was a crowded public place where you could surveil without being surveilled. Ideal for hand-offs and pay-offs, dead drops and such. Secret squirrel stuff aside, it was a great way to get around the city in the rain without getting soaked. Keen to see what replaces it.
Thanks for the walk through. I worked in the building for 15 years until September. The lady who ran Lotus Kebabs once told me her business had been in the food court longer than everyone else.
Hi, feeling sad at the moment. I don't live in Australia but Sydney was my holiday destination of choice. It was my safe place, I could fly in & book into my cbd accommodation & I knew where every thing was & how to get there. Now the monorail has gone, Harbourside had gone, Hunters Connection is going. I know there needs to be progress but I will so miss the Sydney I loved 😢
Dear Abandoned Oz, The Hunter Connection was opened in 1982 and was ultra modern for its time, i actually thought it was older, but looked it up today.
used to work in the CBD 10 years ago and this was one of my favorite, cheap price, authentic taste, most of the traders were happy to give you an extra scoop of rice and a little bit more meat if you ask nicely :) and plenty of idiots there too - I remember one guy, after finishing his lunch, proceed to read a novel, while 50 other people were standing next to him with a tray waiting for a table, or someone decided to hoard a long table to host a team meeting there, without buying any foods or drinks........ not sure how they managed to hear each other over the thundering roar of the lunch time crowd though........
I loved the 747 bar. My Favourite lunchtime haunt during the 1980s (I worked in Clarence Street). There was also a cheap clothes shop nearby called Crocodile that sold handmade clothes such as leggings and baggy tops.
loved the 747 bar and all the other bars they should have left things as they were and just renovated now all is gone there is no more small biusiness in the city we had a shop there for 40 odd years
So many shops gone - I can't help feeling sympathy for all the traders who have been ejected. The Christmas decorations add a note of poignancy, too. But I know it's all to make way for the Metro, which will finally give Sydney the sort of fast transport London had had for decades. I only hope that at the age of 77, I get to see its completion.
I used to go to shoe repair place there in the 80's - so sad to see it now a shadow of it's former life. The eateries were great for a quick & cheap meal too. I had a friend from Uni who worked in Hunter St & we used to meet up often for lunch.
I worked at FAI in Spring Street from 1995-97. When it was someone’s Birthday we would get a collection and then go to a donut place in the Hunter Connection to get some donuts.
I know the Hunter connection, it used to have an entrance to Wynyard station {Maybe still does} used to go there as a kid in the 80s, wasn't that old back then, today its shocking!
I used to work in one of the shops that was adjoining that arcade! At the top of the escalator at 4.02, with the glass doors. I don't know if it's going too,] it's definitely been done up a bit, but that shop was/is absolutely enormous - it had a full sized bank vault in there, big ground level office space, then a full basement level area with multiple massive bathrooms - showers included, and a ton of office/storage space. Worst job I ever had, the company was dodgy as hell, but I have weirdly fond memories of that shop. I used to get really cheap lunches in that food court after the office worker's lunch rush. Then the shop moved to Town Hall Square, and THAT place should be demolished... it's even more filthy behind the scenes, and was infested with biggest cockroaches and rats I've ever seen.
An old friend of mine, a Vietnamese woman, had a Restaurant/Takeaway in the Hunter Connection, called Pho Ha Noi, (I can't reproduce the special Vietnamese characters in the logo), but I couldn't see its shop sign anywhere in the video. (I always meant to go there, but I very rarely go into the city these days, and I never got around to it, and that's why I'm not too sure exactly where it was in the Food Court). She has another restaurant/takeaway at Rooty Hill, with the same business name, and logo. Oh well... Never mind... 😕 Thanks for the video, anyway. 👍

I can't understand why they are demolishing places that were only put up in the 1980s.
I live here. Its a shithole these days and I can't wait to leave this overrated, overpriced souless city

Its an 80's vibe, built in the early 80's. Sad to see it go.
Few people will remember the 747 Bar….it was the rage just after the Boeing 747 came into service.

This is eerie and sad as someone who worked above Hunter Connection in 2014-15.
The part from 13min onwards to Pitt St isn't closing, and will remain as an arcade, and probably connect to the new station complex in the future.
I was here in September 2022 at Wayne’s Masssge getting my frozen shoulder fixed. The arcade looked very run down and dirty then.

i used to walk through this to get to darling harbour in my childhood days lol many memories
This arcade won't take you to anywhere near Darling Harbour. You might be thinking of the one that heads west to Kent Street from Town Hall station.

Used to get my hair cut at a barbers there in mid 00s. They would give you a beer to drink while you waited 👍
