    That very interesting thank you! I visited there once in the mid 1980's with a fiend when we were still in High School and his parents were kind enough to invite me. It was still Browns Resort at the time. I remember being introduced to cafilta fish at dinner, and then got to see Wayne Newton perform at the theatre. Those were great times!!!!!

    I never went to this hotel, but it’s representative of all the hotels in the Borscht Belt. I’m 65, and my parents took me there when I was a kid.
    Hard to explain how much I appreciate what you’re doing here, and the reverence you’re showing to these old places. This was part of Jewish history, because Jews weren’t allowed entrance to other places.
    While I’m crying at my memories of this by-gone era, I thank you so much for documenting it.

      Just a few were in residence or home. Everybody was out in the first minutes. Some owners were allowed a brief escorted entrance to reclaim what they could, but there was so much concern about asbestos and building integrity most possessions were never recovered. Insurance refused to pay out because (they said) they were misled by the condo board about the state of fire and sprinkler systems. I don’t know about individual private insurance, but the property is pretty much upside down in value, because of the extent of hazardous materials and the costs of demolition.

    I didn't get to catch this video when you posted it, but it was a sobering moment to see parts of people's lives in photos around! I remember these resorts back in the day they were great, in fact I spent my honeymoon at one in the Pocono Mountains it was the best time of my life, I met people who are now valued friends. The resort that I went to on my honeymoon is gone, plenty more are gone. Some were remodeled and some were dozed to make way for homes and condos. It's sad, so sad to see that nobody else will ever have the chance to know what they were like, just as many of us will never know life pre-pandemic again.
    Thanks for documenting this and telling its story, as long as the memories of them live on they're never really gone.

      I like exploring these places but its always sad to see the state of these places...Its one thing to see natural decay but taggers and vandals have nothing better to do besides break stuff. First and foremost, I truly am saddened by the losses occurred at this establishment. Your description paints a picture so vividly on how serious fire code regulations are, more so to prevent things such as this from occurring. And the fact that the fire was going for so long before being reported, I am amazed that no one lost their lives here. I am also sad to see that no one was allowed to retrieve their possessions. All those nice belongings just left to rot. Someone really should go in there with a truck and salvage what can be salvage, and donate items for a good cause. It sell items to raise money for local charity's or something. Thank you for this excellent video. 👍

    I was a musician there during the Summers from 1984-1987. I played every night on that stage in that showroom and in the Brown Derby that was across from it. I have lots of pictures from back then. You could see that the hotel was in decline back then, but we still got the big name acts like Tony Bennett. The theatre looks exactly as it did back in the day...... minus the decay!

    What people dont understand is when there is a fire the property is no longer yours as it is in investigation and they were maybe given 1 hour later on when things seemed safe to get what they could carry, if that, or maybe not and then they had to move on with life and deal with their insurance companies. When there is a huge fire you cannot just go back and get your stuff. Sadly.

    The reason many hutches and dressers were destroyed was people hoping to find hidden money. It a common place for people to hide valuables and cash. So since people were rushed out and not to return ,vandals and scrappers figure there must be valuables hidden to be found.

    I'm a bit puzzled about all the VHS tapes, with a lot of them still being in their shrinkwrap. Was that still a thing in the US in 2012? I mean, I remember DVD's arriving in the US in 1997. Also, I wonder if tapes will play after being exposed to these conditions (the seasons) since most of them were in appartments that were not affected by the fire. Some of these recordable tapes may have treasured memories on them for the past residents.

    • @GoodDayforDecay
      @GoodDayforDecay  3 года назад +1

      Most people held onto there vhs tapes. Some spent alot of money and never switched to dvd cause they spent all the money on vhs or if they did switch they just held onto them anyway...vhs tapes were pretty much the same price as dvds back then..There probably were some memories on tapes there...I didnt notice any myself...just tons of family pictures

    • @TMCremixes
      @TMCremixes 3 года назад

      @@GoodDayforDecay thanks for your answer. That would make sense. I'm from Europe and over here DVD's had pretty much taken over (and were relatively cheap) by 2004. It had full beautiful bedding and it was actually really "clean" compared to other apartment units. I think the vandals and looters are destroying the places even more.
