What a fantastic presentation. One of the best I've ever seen about bitcoin. I wasn't aware of so many things that are actually happening in bitcoin economy.
How could Bitcoin possibly help those in Togo, or Malawi ? They won’t be able to use it on-chain; agree ? What’s your estimate for how high Transaction fees will need to be - if it’s to remain secure ? $40 ? $50, $70, or more ?? It needs to pay for enough mining to be secure. As the Subsidy decays this needs to be paid by Tx Fees, yeah ? How could anyone afford this - other than the world’s richest ? And so for the 99% of the world these guys plan to shove them into Third Party Custodians; ie, Banks. So the world’s poorest scrape together $20 or maybe $40. Put it into this network. And it mostly turns into unspendable dust. How does this help the poor ?
@@SquareRootOfMinus1what’s the problem with them converting their local coins into Bitcoin and storing it with custodians that offer zero fee transactions between wallets hosted by the same custodian? That seems pretty reasonable to me Edit: I do agree it doesn’t help them all, since apparently ~89% doesn’t have electricity so I wouldn’t know how they’d use Bitcoin in the first place
@@Steph1 There’s nothing wrong - per se - with 3rd party custodians. So long as people know what that means. Because the whole entire *point* of Bitcoin was self custody. Disintermediation of banks, and custodians. That was the point. And they continue to bang on about “NYK-NYC” and self custody. And peer-to-peer. W BTC Did, Saylor, Alden, Breedlove, etc, etc, on & on. Constantly & incessantly talking about self sovereignty. And own your own assets. And P2P transactions. All Fake. If the Bitcoin marketing ecosystem actually stood behind what they say - no problem. Just tell the truth. Come out and say, “we are in favour of 3rd party custodians. Intermediaries. Centralized companies controlling our assets ….” No problem. Then they would be consistent. “We don’t care about Peer-to-Peer money.” That’s fine. It’s not crypto, it goes against the original ethos of the space. But that’s fine - if you’re ok with it. I just don’t understand why they carry on like it’s all self custody… when it’s not ! Why does Saylor sit on stage interviewing a 3rd party custodial, fully centralized company - Lightspark- and say , “Now this is all Non-Custodial; and Decentralized, yes ?” “Oh yes of course”, is the answer. Polar opposite to the truth. Why not just tell the truth.
So the money itself is decentralized. Fine. But if *the use* of the money is fully centralized … then what’s the point ? Why bother ? Especially so , if 1. There are loads of networks where you can actually transact whilst holding self custody of your assets. With extremely affordable fees. 2. If these custodial companies are offering free transactions - how does that help Bitcoin ? The entire point of PoW is that it must be paid for. *Somebody* needs to pay for mining. So either these companies are subsidizing Tx’s; meaning they will eventually go bankrupt. Or they need to pass along the fees. If you don’t see Bitcoin chain raising ~$25 to $30 million per day in Tx Fees in ten years … then obv security will be weakening. At which point, if security is weak, then … what is the point ?
@@SquareRootOfMinus1 I think the idea is that the high transaction fee with be split over many transactions, so it’ll still be cheap per transaction. So what’s the problem?
One thing said that was not true is that the phone is separate from the internet--using SMS. However, the phone, around 2000, switched to using TCPIP, which is internet protocol. Don't think, using your phone, that you are not using the internet to transfer your Crypto.
This is not true for carriers in Africa (like MTN for individuals), especially in the last mile which is exactly what Alex highlights. These people don't need to pay for internet connection on their phone. Machankura runs on/uses USSD codes so you can receive and send money without smartphone. Since I became so rich in cryptocurrency I realise that crypto is the future cuz I invested 10k and made up to 36k as weekly profit I appreciate the help of your channel 😃🙂......
Comments regarding just first 8 minutes of this: You can't be serious about protecting purchasing power of people in third world countries if you're suggesting them to adopt a currency that falls around 70-80% every four years. You can't be serious about trying to solve problems of people who are barely literate or even illiterate, by offering them one of the least user friendly and one of the most complicated solutions. Also, isn't bitcoin invented to fix the broken money, that is dollar? Now suddenly dollar is great, but we must help 3rd world countries. Actually, when they realized that the narrative of dollar being broken money has failed, they must invent some other narrative.
Do you realize that the more Asics you install to consume the excess of energy, the less money you get per Asics? Those are nice isolated initiatives, but it's not scalable, there will come a point where the price of Asics is higher than the return. And I don't even mention the waste of mineral resources to build all those Asics.
What good is your bitcoin if you cant transact in it...either because surveilance and regulation or because miner fees price out the roughly $100 grocery bill? Use lightning? Good luck doing this non custodially for the many things you need. If it needs to be used custodially then your back to a similar system as the gold standard. Then that will lead to fiat. Bitcoin is corruptable. It is not a sure thing as sold by these talking heads.
@@Richard-ki4nk I suggest you study it more, as Bitcoin itself, the baselayer is NOT corruptable. It provides different levels of freedom to ppl. Depending of one’s knowledge and needs one can perfectly keep things non-custodial, totally private, by running yr own lightning node for instance. But not everyone needs that all the time, so for most of us Custodial lightning solutions are perfectly ok for every day payments. Happy to provide more info as I’ve done some digging over the last 10+ years on the subject.
