I sprayed nemanodes under the hives back in the spring. Had very few beetles. Would like to have chickens, but no place for them to roost. Lots of predators out here in the country. Looking forward to Thursday. Thanks for all your hard work making and editing these great movies. I have learned quite a bit.
Hey, David! I have just started recently watching your videos and really enjoy your content. It is super informative and interesting. I just moved from San Diego to eastern Tennessee! Talk about a culture shock!! haha I am honestly considering getting some bees of my own because I finally have some property for it. Anyway, thanks for the informative videos and I will keep an eye out for the winter hive preparation video on Thursday!
Thanks for the tour, lol! No coyote or fox issues I take it, lucky for you. Them rapid feeders are awesome! When will wholesale come out on them? Another 50 is likely.HBM
Forget plastic and row crop ground covers for under the hives. Get Farmtek Pond Liners, they'll send you a sample. A bit pricey investment but 5-6 years later you be like "man, that is some awesome tough stuff". Chickens absolutely will not shred it, beetle larva will not penetrate it, weeds and grass will not grow on top of it. Heavy duty. I use it for rollup trailer covers instead of tarps.
I see what you did there...gander at the bees...hahaha. If you have a Southern States nearby they have a 18% protein Waterfowl feed that floats that you can get them that will be better nutritionally for the Geese and Ducks. Or you can find Flock Raiser at most any feed store that will also be a better for them than the fish food. Would hate to see feet and wing issues pop up from not getting the right nutrition - waterfowl need more niacin than chickens. Love your bee videos and watch them regularly. Thanks for all the help you are giving the new beekeepers.
79k subs and counting! Time to write a children's book called Barnyard Bees staring Goosy and Friends. By the way, your Overwatch Goose, GAFLAC, is a hybrid. Half Peking and half White Goose. She'll lay eggs but will not be fertile. Just thought you should know. But hey, she loves you, life and her friends. That's all that matters. All you need now is a Tasmanian Devil for Bugs. LOL.
David I had a lot of bees undermine I've got black matting down had a lot of bees on top of it this evening pretty cold do I need to fill feed sugar to keep them from leaving the hide when it's cold I've already close the entrance down.
Mine must be different then... My chickens would clear up the grass and work their way down into the grind from there...have to control the patch the work on else the grass will never recover
Get peafowl, they will keep the large birds away. For some reason the hawks respect their territory. I used to loose way too many chickens to hawks. They don't even sit in the trees any more. I see them all around but my property. I've seen the peafowl to chase off cats and dogs too. Great protectors. I even have a bunch of ducklings and chicks running around. They don't get taken like they used to before I got my peafowl.
You will love peafowl, they have a lot more personality than chickens or geese. Best if you get peachicks in the spring and hand raise them. Make sure to feed them the highest protein game bird feed. If you buy adults they will be skittish. Considering how much you love animals you will much prefer if they will follow you around and eat out of your hand. Mine come peeking through my kitchen door begging for treats. They love cat food, and will not leave until I produce some.
Do you have a ticks near your bees? We have lots of ticks in the grass near our bee stands. I suspect they drop from the birds and rodents that come to eat the waste from the beehives.
A question. I live very near a large (unnamed) commercial operation. He dosn't feed, apparently, and his bees have found mine. Only winter is going to solve the robbing, I'm guessing, but I curious about a bee behavior. Some of the bees just stay in the outside feeders, and don't leave, even at night. Until they found my hives, I didn't have to feed outside often, so I have never seen this behavior. Comments?
I watched them some more today. Think I see their problem. Many that fly away are so full they gain altitude like a CH 46 leaving a hot LZ.. they circle and circle to gain height to fly away . This leaves me to think the ones that stay just took on so much that they doom themselves to the cold night air. Only thing I can figure. Or they REALLY like the way I make sugar water.
Plan to come spring.... he sends out about 900 hives "on the road' starting in Feb., but he has over 1500, per his website. I may not be able to keep bees of my own if they find me again after this year. The last month the back yard has been like a minefield. Bees everywhere. According to Google's map measure, his yard spreads from .8 to 1.3 miles from me. Was fun while it lasted, but the wife is starting to get grumpy about the amount of bees. She has an AWFUL sting. LOL
Always enjoy your videos. You bee yard is always neat, clean, and your Baryard Bees look totally happy and content! Keep up the videos, please.
Man I am absolutely amazed at all them beehives you have that is a site I think that is awesome to have all that fun

The chicken thing worked good for a while until the coyotes and eagles realized there was a free lunch available during the day. 😎🐝🐝🐝

First! And nice video! 😊
Hey! Did the new goose you bought ever go around the other geese? Also, why do some nucs get weights on top of them while others do not?
@@davidhaught84 oh, how cute!!!! If it were only that simple...
@@davidhaught84 so, what about the weights on top of the nucs?

My chickens won't go near the beehives. When they go past the hives they literally walk a 30 ft circle around the front of the hives.
Maybe you have your hives lower to the ground?
If your using a screen bottom board year around why would you use an entrance reducer on I strong hive
Jealous of your farm, dude!
Don't you mean dog food .
