- Despite Aliquis and Meowscarada winning battle after battle, there’s one Trainer they can’t seem to beat: Nemona. After consulting his older brother, Aliquis is advised to stop using a Pokémon after it loses a match.

I know it’s a trend to have Pokémon say their names but I always love how the animated shorts goes for a more realistic approach and uses animal noises instead of them saying they’re names. It makes them feel a bit more realistic and more natural to the world they live in.

"Meowscarda toughed it out so you wouldn't feel sad" is one of the most life saving things in the game. I'm amused it reached the animated series.
I really felt the anime-style "toughed it" out moment when fighting against Ultra Necrozma
Well.... Many of Ash's pokemon have always been doing this toughening thing (especially pikachu) in tough battles or bad match-ups... long before the mechanic came in gen 6 games😅😅
In Pokémon Sword, I have my adorable vaporeon who survived on 1 hp during the battle with the dragon type gym leader. I was very happy when he did that.

You’re right, it wasn’t. A skilled trailer can make up for type disadvantage. I mean I know Ash was a delinquent but how many times did he not lose despite having type advantage because he thought that was the only factor that mattered?
On the contrary I vividly remember the episode where he sent out Quagsire against Elisa’s electric types, and while it mopped the floor with her first Pokémon it lost the battle because Ash (like a dumbass) thought it was a good idea to let it carry the entire fight.

Yeah I was so annoyed with the initial hate that floragato and meowscarada got but I'm glad people are understanding that the design is still very cool even if the kitty is bipedal
@@Ditto.007 Nah it's still ass lol. You know it's not a great design when you have to constantly utilize artwork/animation to make it look somewhat feasible. It's why many prefer older designs, they're sharp, tell what it is, and theme doesn't overtake the design like it does nowadays.

I absolutely adore these miniseries, the animation is stellar and the little nods to the game are wonderful. That being said, I'd be lying if I said I didn't get a chuckle at Meowscarada being blamed for the loss when Aliquis deicided to call for a physical attacker to use a special grass move on a flying type
Maybe it was so the move could reach the flying type? 3d battles like this probably have a lot more factors than just game mechanics
To be fair Leaf Storm Meowscarada isn’t totally a joke, but it’s pretty much just to beat Great Tusk so it wouldn’t be great in an environment where most people donn’t have access to Paradox Pokémon. Especially against a Flying Type.
@userhandle-l See, I get Anime Rules, but in that case why not swap the use of the two special moves in the episode- i.e. use Dark Pulse on Kilowattrel, and Leaf Storm on Tauros? Still fulfils the need for a long-range attack, while making sure that Aliquis isn't making objectively bad move choices in both of these battles.

I love how they took the mechanics from the games and implemented it in the anime. Friendship with your Pokémon is important, after all. "It toughed it out so you wouldn't feel sad."

Does anyone notice that Aliquis’s friend is actually in the Blueberry Academy? Is this the first time a non released ingame location has been teased out? This series is a treasure to the eye and soul of any Gen 9 lovers.

And then, even if they defeated Tauros, they lost again because Nemona had more Pokémon to send. But at least he learned not to be a sore loser and a jerk.
Though during that "lucky candy" scene, Nemona must have been like "What the heck is he doing ?"
I’m glad I’m not the only one thing. Yeah yeah the battle ended on a cliffhanger so we don’t know if you won or lost, but probably lost because this world seems like you are in it on your adventure or a prelude to when you come into the Academy, which means that he lost because again she’s a champion ranked trainer.
@@alicekira2253 Not only that, but you know how, if you make a Pokémon evolve later, they can learn moves that they wouldn't learn if you made them evolve immediatly, making them stronger in the long run.
But Ohara said that he made his Sprigatito evolve as soon as possible, probably faster than most trainer do, in order to fight Nemona.
So I think that his Meowscarada is weaker than your average Meowscarada because of that. Kinda like Falkner's underleveled Pidgeotto that evolved before its actual evolution level in Gen 2.
So basically this is Aquilis' fault if Meowscarada keeps losing, not Meowscarada's.

@@Oceane1803that’s no longer true, it was in the old games but since Gen 8 QoL improvements you can relearn moves you missed by evolving. Sometimes it does take a few extra levels though.

Lol. so its a candy thats all about chance: a spicy-sweet scovillain suprise or a tasty squishy gummi center. Aliquis crying after Meowscarada appeared but then getting angry after his snack was eaten is so cute. Meowscarada terastalizing into a pure grass type to combat its weakness against the fighting type Tauros was also a pretty great move.

I used to not like meowscarada in the beginning. But as time pass, it grew on me at a rapid pace. Now seeing it in the anime,in battle and animated beautifully, meowscarada has become my top 3 favourite grass pokemon.

Anime hardly ever uses the same logic that applies to games. In the anime you can be as creative with your pokemon and it's moves as you want to win a battle (case in point = Ash and his out of the box strategies)

@@anormalguy8407 the travelling companions with Ash would always mention type match-ups & such during Ash's battles but most of the time Ash would hardly ever bother with such stuff. Though i think there were many trainers in the anime who kept optimal match ups. So Anime logic = as long as you use good strategies & use the battlefield to the fullest you could still even
Or at least that's how most of Ash's battles would go.
That's what differentiates the anime from the games. you can be as creative as you want...
@@anormalguy8407 I think the implication is that fundamentals like type advantages are only one piece of the puzzle. Even in competitive play, it's just one part of your decision making, and an advantage doesn't mean an automatic win (nor a disadvantage a loss)

Unfortunately as its pretty much heavily implied that this takes place before the protagonist arrives, Nemona remains undefeated as she says that until you arrived she had no one that could properly challenge her.
Most of the miniseries end with the protags arrival. Showing they shake everything up. But yeah I mean I can understand why Nemona gets so into you since she sees the potential for a rival unlike any other
She had half her team left and Meow was beaten down by Tauros. It was Heavily implied She won by a wide margin, but that's ok. This episode was great.

It's nice to see her before the protagonist gets there though. It shows how much she's like a local celebrity and how much her battle prowess is respected. It makes us beating her a just a little more important.

Even though I know it's just a game and not real; I would NEVER consider disrespecting and hurting my partner, Typhlosion's, feelings like that.
I really loved that this short touched the topic of "battling using your favorites, even if they dont win all the time" by applying that pokémon battles are a team effort between trainer and their team. For example I love charizard, but in gen 9 it isn't a often used competitive pokemon since it lacks the power that can put it on pair with the meta teams outside of sun teams and a lot of pro players would recommend "better" fire types like Ogrepon hearthhome mask, arcanine or Chi-yu instead. But I want to battle and win with my ovegrown and over hyped lizard😊 and that love has been rewarded several times by giving me a lot of good victories against teams that are considered meta but not just by raw power alone, but rather by strategy and believing in my team.
Right?! I have my set team for Violet that especially has Meowscarada, Dachsbun, Azumarill, Mabosstiff and Ceruledge, and then after the DLC, Ogerpon became my set sixth. I refuse to have my team without any of them and just try to change up their move sets to accommodate battles instead (like letting some of them learn moves like Acrobatics or Bounce to make up for lack of Flying types) or trying to consider Tera type for neutralising weaknesses or using the different masks for Ogerpon to change her typing. Will I always win? Nope, but they’re my Ride-Or-Die team! Especially Meowscarada, my little Petal who became a big girl and has been with me from the beginning!

When I play pokemon (especially the past generations)
I see the pokedex first and plan a Team to use for the whole game (taking into account things like: avoiding having repeated pokemon and types, whether you can use the mandatory HM and especially whether I like this pokemon), and this gave me some ... not ideal teams, but I loved a lot of then
Basically
Fire red: Venossaur, Pigiot, Bedrill, Nidoking, Clefable and Vaporeon
Soulsilver: Meganiun, Furret, Arbok, Crobat, whooper(i forgot the evolution name), and Ninetails
Sapphire: Swampert, Breloom, Plusle, Minun, Magcargo and Flygon
Platinum (my favorite team): Infernape, Luxray, Bibarel, Roserade, Togekiss and Ramparos
I know a lot of these pokemon are actually strong but I was only choosing then because they were cool to me
Aliquis: "It's Meowscarada's fault I lost to Nemona, so I won't use it anymore! I'll do whatever it takes to win!"
Also Aliquis: ~makes Meowscarda use Leaf Storm despite it only having 81 base SpAtk (which will only go lower thanks to Leaf Storm's stat drop) on a Flying-type that will resist it anyway~
...Yeah, I think I have a pretty decent idea why you lost, buddy
Eh, leaf storm is good. With proper evs, It does more damage than flower trick in general. Garchomp sometimes runs special off base 80, for similar enough reasons. Since we don’t know Meowscarada’s IVs, we can only guess how much it’d be it’s fault Aliquis is running that set…
For a Tera grass sweeper, the moveset isn’t too bad right now. (I’d definitely replace Dark Pulse with a physical move, Knock Off preferred, but night slash is still probably better.) You get one strong Leaf Storm, especially into one of the many grass-weak physical walls of paldea, and otherwise mash physical moves. It’s functional, if not a great meowcarada or sweeper.
Move choice aside. That kilowattrel was almost definitely in the first part of fly. I don’t think the leaf storm mattered unless used by Ash Ketchum himself. If, by the blessings of the anime, a ranged attack was able to hit, dark pulse would do 10% more damage(or 10% less if used from low enough hp to activate overgrow). Then meow loses again anyway.

Dont think base stats/stat spread are a thing in the anime. You could just about use whatever you want. (also sharp razor like leaves coming at super speed will hurt pretty badly)

As an aside, it's really cool seeing Nemona's team from before she met the player character. We already knew about Tauros from the Scarlet/Violet opening cutscene but now we've seen Kilowattrel.
It looks like his brother is going to a different school (possibly Blueberry academy?). Maybe we'll see him in the second part of the DLC?
Meowscarada’s personality & design is so cool he’s chill, sleek, cool asf..
Uh, yes, Meowscarada uses grass type special attacks (while it clearly physical) on flying pokemon, which is of course get resisted. Anime moment, right there

@@mgsmuhammadTerastalising helped negate the Dark type weakness against Fighting types. While the moves wouldn’t hit as hard with the type match-up, terastalising was a good move.
Meowscarada is so adorable, I love Meowscarada so much.
I'm probably looking too far into it, but I like that the candy is kind of symbolic in a way to the battles, relating to the message of "you win some, you lose some". As Aliquis began to realize, it wasn't about the outcome, but rather what or who you still have with you.

We already knew about the tauros. It's shown in the intro to the game.

When a Pokémon evolves by level they just learn the moves later, it's not like they're unable to learn it forever

Also Meowscarada learns leaf storm at level 64, so it's minimum that level
I don't really believe in applying levels this seriously to animated shorts, but if it goes by those rules it's already leveled enough to fight Nemona at post game

I think Aliquis and his older brother might be related to Champion Geeta. Perhaps they're her younger brothers or cousins. They just look a lot alike, and it would explain their drive to become stronger at battling if being a powerful trainer ran in the family. Although, it's also possible that their hair color isn't natural and they both dyed their hair to resemble her since shes so influential.

It was interesting to see Nemona with a Kilowattrel in her team, although Combat Tauros really made sense since she had one in the game intro (it's a good one since it beat Garganacl & then Flamigo with Wild Charge); if these two were part of Nemona's actual final team, it would've really covered for Nemona's final champion team & its many shared weakness to Fighting types (Lycanroc, Orthworm, Dudunsparce; and technically Meowscarada depending on the starter choice)
No wonder bros Meowscarada is dookie, he running special moves on it.

wasn't expecting to cry at the sight of this level of animation. There is such a degree of detail and finality. It was a breath-taking clip without a doubt.
I don't even recognize the newer pokemons, but the artstyle used for this mini series is amazing.

This episode was really good, had me almost in tears of the bromance of Aliquis and Meowscarada fighting over each other and together at the end! (This was a long wait between this episode and the first, hope it won't take long for the next episode of this awesome series to come out!)

Yo, I rrrreally had the same thought, but waddya know, different format, different team. I mean, Leon has Mr Rime in the Anime but not in games
This is actually her first team, the one she used to get the champion rank. You can see Nemona use a Paldean Tauros in the opening cutscene of SV.

Man it was kinda cool to see Aliquis have kind of a competitive background from his bro. Realizing his partner can help him take it all the way was really sweet. It kinda makes Nemona's side of things kinda messed up if she met people like Aliquis and her heart wasn't swayed by them, since by the time we meet her, she really still only cared someone needs to beat her. If this is ep 2 this has been a super strong start.
All those bonds will gets old if all your "rival" can barely give you any challenges. I mean we seen aliquis Ace need affection boost to survive Tauros attack and nemona still have 3 more mons.
For the record, Nemona has two more pokémon, so there's no real chance Aliquis wins even if Tauros goes down.
Already knew the final result of the battle even before I see the episode. Because the players,the protagonist,is the first one who beat Nemona😅

Seeing Meowscarada in action here only made me like it more. The tough personality, the unique gimmick, its OP signature move... who wouldn't wanna use one?

That leaf storm in the beginning was more like a razor leaf 😂 Alicus (or however it’s spelled) should check it’s move list and see which it is because that leaf storm compared to sawyer’s sceptile is Miles apart in power.
Tauros’ close combat though😮. Heat!!!!! I loved the way Meowscarada used dark pulse like ki blasts. Dope. Pokémon’s creative potential it’s out of this world. More of this!!!

The problem is that you have been using moves that the enemy resists. Like Leaf Storm against a flying type or Dark Pulse against a fighting type. Maybe stop doing that.

this Pokémon episode 2 was so good the bond between the trainer and Pokémon on how much they cared for each other was so heartwarming oh and aliquis’s meowscarada mega like evolution and the end was so awesome
