*CLICK READ MORE, to see links* Grab some popcorn because we will be taking a deep long dive (NOT QUICK video) into nearly every single setting in the new 2023 updated Joying head unit including a few of the good & bad changes they have done when compared to the old 2021 Joying head unit I have reviewed previously. That being said, despite it's shortcomings, I still recommend the unit. Nothing compares to this unit in my opinion, for my applications, and for what I need out of my head unit. I like how slim it is and that is has no branding or logo on the screen border. Below are affiliate links to the unit I got. If you decide the unit is for you, I'd love if you supported my channel by using the affiliate link(s) below to buy yours. The price is the same whether you use my links or not. There is no "augmented reality" happening but I do admit they look really good and it's nice that they recording video as well (like the tesla cameras do) Here's a link to my Sony microphone I use for my headunit amzn.to/3qR99RQ Don't forget to ask Joying for a canbus decoder or if they even sell one for your vehicle. If they don't then you will have to buy a universal one where you can program your steering wheel buttons manually. Unless you don't have steering wheel buttons. If you don't have steering wheel buttons then I wouldn't get a canbus decoder. (my opinion of course. Do you research on this)
On the 15.1 unit...it's massive. The wiper lever is literally millimeters away from it. I mounted the front camera from joying behind the actual unit itself. Looks neat 👌🏾 your videos helped me install it myself. First install ever done and I feel like a professional because of you. Thanks man you rock 💪🏾💯😎
So considering my radio is Double din the 15.1 in would be blocking my ac vent by 1 in on top would the single din possibly allow me to raise it 1 in or more? Thanks!
@@MarkTruskolaski-bw4vf yes true! No instructions which is a bummer. I don't have an install video but if you have a Jeep Wrangler I have a video showing how I wired mine. What year Joying head unit did you get?
@@MarkTruskolaski-bw4vf nice! I would imagine the video I have on my channel showing my rearview camera wiring schematic won't help because that video is from the 2021 joying head unit. When I installed my 2023 Joying head unit the rear view camera integrated with the front view camera power wire and it was a much easier install and pretty much plug and Play I didn't have o tap anything
Thanks for the follow-up. Your Joying video was well done and very informative. Overall, I think Joying did a good job with the unit excepting a few minor fixes requiring minimal effort. I am surprised they have not addressed these issues. Thanks again for your response.
Awesome! Glad it's helping people 😃 I wish the Chinese would show us what every feature does with an instruction sheet. I had to learn all this the hard way 😅
"Delay Shutdown Seconds" This is a feature I requested on my 2021 unit. Not sure I had anything to do with it, but I made a suggestion to them since I have a Diesel truck, and most of them cut all Accessory power during starter engagement. I had my unit inside and plugged in, inside my workshop all winter, updating and customizing it. It never once messed up. As soon as I installed it, I was having problems with it. It would do so weird things. I also noticed it would shut off and reboot when starting. As with any computer, it isn't good to unplug it in the middle of boot. It was scrambling things and I had to reset it a couple times. Pulled it out and put back in my shop and didn't have any problems, eliminating that it was a problem with the HU. It was my truck doing it. So I wired in a Diode and Capacitor to the ACC wire to delay the power down for about 5 seconds after power is cut. I made a suggestion to add a delay as I was betting this was not just an issue with my truck, as other vehicles probably do the same. This is a good feature. Don't really need it in my Challenger though.
I interestingly had the opposite problem where my 2021 head unit would power down after 2 seconds but my amp would power down immediately when the car would turn off and it caused a very loud boom through the subwoofers. I'm happy to see that with this 2023 head unit I can set it to immediately turn off when the car turns off
best / most in-depth vid i've seen to date. thanks for taking the time to describe the features. although i'm getting the joying 10.1 for a tacoma, generally the same unit. rock on!!
That's awesome! Thank you for the kind words. Really does mean a lot to me. I've got other videos on this new joying on my channel as well including how to update the firmware when you get yours. I think this video is best watched at 2x speed cause I talk way too much on this video haha 😆 And if you haven't bought yours yet feel free to use my affiliate links. If you think of something you need further clarification on that's not answered on any of my RUclips videos holler at me anytime 😎
i'll revisit this vid, and look at the others. the unit i am purchasing soon is the "newest" 10.1" screen, single din, has OctaCore 1920x1200 display. and of course, works with the Tacoma dash housing (supplied w/ unit)@@ElevatedVehicles
Pretty good video, and to think you never even mentioned anything else about the radio except the settings pages alone! Haha... Not to count the whole new 48-band DSP eq settings pages they have now too lol... Now you see why I havent gotten around to doing my full video like yours too yet, it takes FOREVER to go through and show and explain every last thing these new radios have to offer lol... I could explain some of the things that you didnt know what they did or are for, I'd actually almost like to to a voice commentary over your video almost at those points (like freeze frame at them) just to add to your video... Great job on it man!! I've been far too busy at work past few month to get my full setup installed in my Jeep Cherokee to do a proper review like you did... Maybe they'll have the 360 camera system available by the time I install mine lol. Its a MAJOR install process to add all those cameras in i bet lol
Joseph great to see you here! You've been instrumental in getting me help when I initially set this unit up. Yes would love your feedback for the areas I didn't know what they did. Agreed. This is just the settings. There's a wealth of tools on this head unit I didn't even touch on haha
And yes they actually reached out to me this morning and asked if I'd be interested in testing the 360 camera on my Jeep. I replied yes I'm interested but haven't heard back yet. I would imagine it's a big time on labor to get all the cameras installed just right so it will view correctly on the screen.
A 360 camera would be great for my truck. I literally just installed a 3 camera Mirror / DVR for it, because I have bad blind spots. It's a Wolfbox G890 front, rear and in cab cameras. I have no blind spots now. And these cameras now are crazy good. My rear window is tinted, my cap front window and rear window is as well. If I look back with my naked eye, I can't see anything through them. But looking through my in cabin camera that is basically the view from mirror point of view like an actual mirror, I can see plain as day what is behind the truck. I don't understand how, it just does it. It also has night vision for inside the cab. I wanted the incab for my dogs, to see what they are up to when I am not in the truck, and also watch them in the back seat when I am driving.
Great video. Congrats on holding your phone camera steadily for those 40+ minutes. Lots of useful info for the Joying 12.3 1920 x 720 HU I just installed in my FR-S. Could not find the 'Joying unofficial head unit' group on FB, though I was able to find you and Joseph Metcalf. Would like to share issues and solutions with that group.
O that's cool! I use to have a SIM card in my older 2021 unit for a couple of months then decided to just use my hotspot on my phone & automate that process of the head unit to cell phone handshake. I didn't know GPS only, after some time, would sync the clock. That's 😎 cool
I have the 11.6 inch early 2022 flagship model and agree completely that something needs to be done about the Bluetooth situation. Locked down Bluetooth is a fairly substantial negative. I have a several Bluetooth devices that have nothing to do with Bluetooth items that Joying sells, one is a Bluetooth interface for my JL Audio VXi Series DSP amplifier, I have hooked via Optical SPDIF cable to my Joying unit. Unfortunately I cannot pair this adapter which means I need a tablet in order to use the Android Software and VXi Bluetooth adapter to tweak the amplifier DSP settings for the head unit. This is really a damn shame, and Joying really needs to resolve this issue for its customers. While not ideal I would even pay Joying a bit extra for a software revision with the Bluetooth unlocked. It's not about the money it's about controlling the flexibility of the unit. Nick
Man you hit the nail on the head. We are so sick of every single head unit from them that we have had since 2021 be locked down for Bluetooth for no good reason other than I can think of is that they sell an OBD Bluetooth adapter. But it still does make that much sense from that perspective
@@ElevatedVehicles not only that their OBDII adapter causes battery drain on my Mazda 6 (it wakes up the car computer every 10 mins or so) so I can't use it, and I can't replace it with a good one :(
Thank you for the kind words! And congrats on the new unit. My RUclips has a lot of info on the new unit so, when you're bored, take a poke around. Holler if you have any questions 🙂
@@ElevatedVehicles awesome! I have the optical out in use with a Helix DSP amp for crystal clear audio so for now I'm most interested in the 5.1 DTS feature.
Dang that is gonna be awesome. I've only got a 4.1 system in my Jeep so I am looking forward to hearing what you think about the 5.1 sound it produces @@thefunkybassistnl
@@ElevatedVehicles depends on your amp and connection. So I just installed the new unit and it's easier than ever. Everything worked right off the bat including audio, 4G and basic setup with Google and Apple Music was done in 15 minutes. The new navigation and upgrades are all a big improvement in the right direction. I have the unit linked up via Optical to a DSP amp, which I think supports 96khz surround signal and I have only 4 speakers, 2 front 2 back (Morel Ultimo). Will add a sub later. I found that setting it to 4.1 surround sounds best. Tweaked around with the DTS settings and details can sound both very spatial in different locations and the whole sound more powerful, more present. A downside is that it sometimes sounds more compressed, maybe also because of the spatial "reflections" being combined to a center channel. But the DTS option sounds AMAZING and definitely a fun feature to play around with!
@@thefunkybassistnlvery fun having the DTS! I'm curious if you have the same issue the rest of us have when the units first launched. In 4.1 mode (and if you have a subwoofer in the vehicle) fading the sound to the front takes power away from the subwoofer. Fading the sound to the rear boosts power to the subwoofer. This makes it difficult to gain match. No other head unit, including the 2021 Joying I use to have, has ever had this issue we have on the 2023 version. It's a bummer. I'm on the latest firmware and they still haven't fixed it. I like having a front stage when I'm by myself in my vehicle and then if I have passengers in the rear I like setting the fade in the middle so everyone has equal volume going to each speaker. But this requires me to lower or increase my bass knob each time I do this
Navi Data copy is a remnant from a time where the internet wasnt available to every device, an era where you had to download maps and navigation data xD
Good day. At about 6:46 in your video you reference a DVR App Set, including commentary on the camera app. I have a Joying head unit with Snapdragon and the list that shows on my DVR app set is much shorter including the camera apps do not show anywhere at all. Do yu happen to know where I can find the APK to reinstall those apps? By the way ... fantastic video ... keep on keeping on :)
Thank you for the kind words! Yes the apk should be found in your files folder (they aren't hidden) if you can't find them for some reason the XDA forum thread will have. I would post link but youtube removes links. If you google 'joying 2023 xda forum' you should find the thread. The front and rear cameras can record just like a dash cam or a "DVR" but you'll need a micro sd card in the head unit for it to function :)
Have you figured out how to get the internal or an external mic to work well? I have read a ton of threads about garbage mic reception and not seen any real solutions
I have & linked it in the description of a lot of my Joying videos so it's hard to find it. Here's a link where I got my sony microphone from amzn.to/3qR99RQ It's a lavalier stereo mic. So it helps, I mean it doesn't make it a magician since I have a Jeep Wrangler which has the aerodynamics of a brick so people can't hear me the clearest when I'm going over 50 mph but that's a me problem not a head unit problem. 😅
On my unit there are 3 styles to choose from. Looks like you found the options menu for it. I think if you go in reverse & touch & hold on the screen it brings up a menu of things as well. I should go try that to see if I am remembering correctly, when I get off work.
Thank you for the video! Quick question that I can’t find the answer: is it possible to set the ac in the screen in a way that we can regulate it just on touch mode?
On my Jeep Wrangler no. However, I have read on XDA forums that some cars have this function. My opinion, go into the purchase decision saying to yourself that you will NOT have that ability. Then if it turns out it does then great but if it doesn't you're not let down.
You can change your speed and temperatures settings in Factory settings -> Original Car Set -> then all the way at the bottom are the settings you would change.
@@ElevatedVehicles I think it's just for any New Joying head unit. It shouldn't be vehicle specific. So you can change it from KPH to MPH and Celsius to Fahrenheit.
My AR cameras don't have guide lines until I put it in reverse. My 2021 Joying unit you could adjust the guidelines when you put it in reverse & hold one finger on the screen for 2 seconds then a hidden menu popped up. Have you tried that on this new 2023 unit?
I will check it out, but while I have you, I do have a question. I noticed on the past unit it had an option to reset my maintenance info like oil changes, and stuff. I noticed this one doesn’t have that or does it?
@ I have one more question. Do you happen to know how to change the font color on the home screen if I put certain backgrounds up I can’t see the time.
@@vtecef9 I use Nova Launcher and this allows me to have any color for font on the home screen. I do not use the factory home screen from Joying because it is very locked down.
Quick question,I’m not sure if you would know. Am I forced to use the “AR” back up camera? I have it currently, but I believe I have found a better one I would like. On Amazon , under the description, it stated you have to use their accessories, isn’t it just a aux cable? So any aux camera should work. At least I would think so.
Unless they changed something, the backup camera system does use the "AR" camera wires. I dunno why they call it AR but I digress. On my unit, it looked like a proprietary input but they may have changed that design
I recently bought a Joying head unit. It's a 9-inch model, but it seems to be the same software as yours. The issue I found was that, if I turn off auto time sync, the clock setting is always reset to the default whenever I manually reboot the head unit or the HU restarts from power shut off after sleep. Haven't you seen any similar issue? I have already spent quite some time trying to fix the issue and communicating with Joying CS, but couldn't find a solution yet. Actually, Joying said that it's the issue only for my head unit, but at the same time they didn't admit that my HU is faulty.
I ran into this issue as well. What fixed it for me was activating the 'sync time from mobile provider' (Admittedly, I forget the true name of it, but you'll see what I mean when you go back in the time & date settings) :)
Great video my project with this is in a 2004 motorhome I plan on removing the voyager rear camera unit an install this double din unit any input or advice would be great ,I do still want rear camera capability , Google maps ,radio . Thanks Rick
You can change the car boot logo by going to file manager and installing ine of the apks that came with the unit. Dont remember exactly what it's called but once installed, you can open it and set any manufacturer logo for boot screen
Yes that's correct! Fordsixshoe also mentioned this in the XDA forum thread we started. Thanks for coming in here with that info this way future owners will see your comment. I'm gonna see if I can update my video with that info too
@@tonyharwood4179 absolutely brother. Here's a video on the background being changed. ruclips.net/video/mjurfntBCUQ/видео.htmlsi=vaUe4sMsVAwh0NNy And I'll make a video on changing boot up logo this week 😎
@@tonyharwood4179 not that I found. I would imagine it's possible by diving into the root folder 📂 & changing it but I'm not savvy enough with Android operating system to figure it out. XDA forums is a great place to learn about it & I've been wanting to read how to do it but haven't made it a priority yet since I prefer using Nova over the factory launcher
1:18 This isn't based off Samsung, but this is stock Android settings. Dates back to either Android 8 or 9 for the layout of the Network & Internet menu. It's nearly identical to the way this settings menu is on my old Blackview BV9800Pro. 1:30 Have you tried the Torque app? On all of my phones, the OBDII reader I have won't directly pair in bluetooth settings. It will pair initially, but afterwards won't be "connected" like other devices. However, when I launch Torque (I use the lite version as it clears codes and read them just fine without having the paid version) then it auto connects to it after a moment, giving updates in the top left about what step it's on for connecting. 5:42 I'm fairly certain Navi Data Copy is for copying Map data for offline use. Many of these headunits used to come with an option to buy a microsd card or a flashdrive that already had offline map data downloaded for you. This is useful if you tend to go through deadzones, don't have a data plan, are visiting some location forever away and are unsure if you'll have data the whole trip, etc.
@@ElevatedVehicles Once I install the new head unit I just got in(not a Joying, but is a 13.3" that's very similar, possibly same base) I'll be putting a video up showing how it looks to connect to a third-party obd reader using the Torque and OBD Auto Doctor apps. I'll definitely leave a new reply here once I do so in case you have any issues and want to see exactly how I get it to connect
@@Whoatharmage heck yes that's awesome. I will see my video here is outdated. Joying released an update & now my OBD scanner connects right up to Bluetooth for it
@@ElevatedVehicles well, video will take a bit to make, currently having issues with a LOUD buzz/staticish sound coming through my speakers when it's on. Doesn't affect subs though. So, stuck ATM until I can resolve this lol
@@Whoatharmage o dang! Someone else was having that issue too in his Honda crv. Have you posted about this on the XDA forums & on the joying head unit Facebook unofficial group?
Thanks for showing the backup camera feed (w reverse trigger). I was really banking on using the new 12.3 radio as my digital gauge cluster. I would have used the app RealDash and obd2 bluetooth connection. Have the "Navigation" app set to RealDash, and then enable 'open navigation on startup' to have RealDash always on. However the bluetooth support is so frustrating! My setup would use a piece called dashbox that lets you take it wired engine info (fuel levl, rpm, speed, turn indicators, etc) and transfers it via bluetooth to RealDash. I can imagine that Dashbox bluetooth connection being able to pair to the 12.3... Now i am thinking of using a tablet thay would run Realdash and have the bluetooth connection. Then use a usb-c hdmi output converter to get video output, and a hdmi to rca converter to feed the tablets video out into the Joying reverse camera feed. I could then use a video switcher to display my parking cams and gauge view in the joying. Thats really the goal is to have a gauge cluster and camera inputs in one screen Ah what a freaking workaround. So frustrating! Sorry for venting 😂
Vent away! I agree it's frustrating they lock the Bluetooth down. Joseph Metcalf mentioned a workaround in the Joying Facebook group. Essentially going into the true Android settings page and changing the Bluetooth password & that fixes it. I'm gonna try that today. I love your gauge idea. That would be sick. I'll post a video if this work around fixes it.
Hmm, I haven't tried my OBDII on this new unit yet. I use Torque for my F250 on my 21 unit. Works pretty well. Haven't really played with the Bluetooth much on this new unit, but sounds like I have frustration set for my future, lol. I used Hidden Settings App on my other unit to get to some of the Android Settings before I found that I could access them through Carlauncher Pro. But I see on this new 23 unit, I can not access them through CLP like I could the other, just takes me the OE Settings. I was able to find it once, and can't remember for the life of me how I did it. And I specifically remember saying to myself, I have to remember that. Lmao
@@fordsixhoe1184 haha the struggle is real. Like you, on my 2021 Joying head unit I could get my OBDII to connect to the head unit. However, on this new head unit I can't. The way I get into the true Android settings is by opening chrome, taping my account picture clicking the account email then hitting the back button & boom takes me right into Android true settings. Joseph is the one that taught me that trick
Any issues with the floating screen type of mount. I have a Tundra truck so been researching joying 10.1, and 11.6in units and Dasaita 10.2 head units. Wish I could find a deep dive into Dasaita also too. Hear support is pretty good with both.
None. And I prefer it. It looks so modern floating (in my opinion of course) if you look at my other video you'll see I have a Jeep on 40 inch tires & I take it off road meaning I hit big bumps that are very jarring. I also have a 5000 watt sound system & it shakes everything in the Jeep. The head unit never has had any issues with all the bumps & vibrations
@@ElevatedVehicles I've heard from some view about extra rattles so have you seen anything like that? Maybe that was with the dasaita unit not sure as I've seen so many reviews but things change with these units fast with redesigns and upgraded units.
@ElevatedVehicles I think it was one of your videos you mentioned to be careful with the brightness setting and not going too dim as it would turn the screen black lol. I have a 8.9" unit running Android 12 I just put in and the lowest brightness AND on Dark mode setting STILL is really bright at night in a small car like m5 C5 Corvette. Did you change something to allow a lower brightness setting? I run Apple Carplay and the icon colors and brightness is somewhat distracting a night. Thanks!
I have not been able to connect to Pandora. I get a message that it is not available in my area, but I am in the US and set the location for the unit to US. I also have noticed when watching youtube TV the commercials are in Chinese. Is there a way of fixing the location to the US for all apps?
@@robertlaff671 dang that's really strange. Mine connects to Pandora & I haven't had any Chinese commercials. Have you checked to see if you have a DNS setup?
Thanks for the video. How do you switch between CarPlay screen/view and Home screen. I can't never figure out how to get back to CarPlay screen after go to other screen? Thanks
I have the 9" version of the same android 12 head with current updates. Is there a way to rotate or flip the image on the rear/front view cameras? Also, have you found a way to use BT without running the phone aps? Great videos, best I've seen on the net.
Thank you for the kind words. No way to flip or rotate cameras without physically doing so before you mount them. Haven't seen a way to use bluetooth without running the built in bluetooth app
Do I need to be concerned about this unit getting too warm...how is the cooling. Do you recommend a fan? I've heard of android units getting too hot. thanks
Hey man big fan of your reviews! Is it possible to connect them with wireless apple carplay? and could you send me a video of that and how it looks? does it cover the whole screen?
Yes sir it does wirelessly connect to Apple carplay. A lot of people have asked me about it and it's the same with wireless connectivity for Android auto the reason I've never done a video on it is because for someone like myself it's completely worthless. But let me explain why I say that. Because this head unit runs Android operating system it does so much more than Apple carplay and Android auto can offer. The only way that I could possibly see myself ever using Android auto or apple carplay is if I wanted to see text messages while I'm driving and then reply to those text messages. But for someone like myself I just want to focus on the drive and enjoy the drive rather than replying to text messages from work or my family and friends. So because of that, that's why you'll never see me make a video on it because I think it's a pointless item. However I respect and totally understand people that want Android auto and Apple carplay for the convenience of not having to set up everything with the Android operating system that currently runs on the head unit. But once you learn the Android operating system on the head unit it will run absolute circles around anything that Android auto and Apple carplay can do.
@@ElevatedVehicles I was playing from a USB and using the supplied Joying Music player. I downloaded other apps to try out but have not figured it out.
Can the AR cameras replace a dedicated dashcam? So if there's an impact, does it automatically keep the recording? Any way to quickly save a recording manually? I'd like something easy to use post-accident, last resort is to have it save onto an USB drive by default so it's easy to take it out.
So it does not have accident detection however mine are continuously recording to the SD card anytime the vehicle is on. So if I were to get in an accident it would be recorded. It doesn't save sound and the video looks more like 720P instead of 1080p HD but I like having it as a backup from the dash camera just in case so that's why I set mine to always record
Nice informative vid! I just got my new joying unit with android 12 too :) U did help a lot alone with the password for factory :D But theres a question.. Does the ar camera record directly when you start the car or do you have to start the app first by yourself? I haven't installed the ar camera yet.
If you go into settings after installing your SD card and you tell it that you want it to record then it will automatically start recording whenever you start the car however there is another setting inside what's called common menu where you can also have it recording while you're parked kind of like Tesla sentry mode
Nice video - saved me some time figuring out my new Joying. Any additional input on the campus issues you had? I used a PAC adapter, but could not get my SWC working properly on a RAM vehicle.
Yes actually. It fixed it in the latest update. I talk about that here in this video towards the end ruclips.net/video/0Ppwehwndyk/видео.htmlsi=eXoPduZEv_7OELp9
I have a 2014 Dodge Challenger with the PAC and new 23 joying, the selector on the PAC needs to be to Pioneer/other. Setting the buttons on on the PAC module the way it says in the instructions, then you have to go into Joying settings to SWC and click on the button option then click the button on the steering wheel. Kind of a PITA, as I don't remember having to do all that with my old unit and the same PAC canbus I have installed in my Challenger before. I just plugged the PAC in and programmed the buttons through settings on the Head. Also, when going through the sequence of programing the PAC with bottons, it says to skip a particular button, hit the button on the PAC, well, this is something I really had to play around with to get the right buttons working on the steering wheel as some would be read as the same value in the Joying. So had to do different combos until I got what I wanted. I could not tell your for the life of me what they were again, lol. It may be better to contact Joying and get the actual Canbus unit for your truck.
I have not tried null in the canbus. I followed the instructions on the PAC, and as fordsixshoe noted, I have the PAC selector on Pioneer/other (7). I'll try a few more things and the update & keep punching buttons. If all else fails, I'll bow down to the automotive audiophiles & take it to a shop.
You sure can. I have a video on my channel about it. As far as Uber eats & door dash specifically, I'm unsure but every app I've ever tried is able to run side by side next to each other on the same screen. I just haven't tried Uber eats and doordash together since I don't use those apps
@@ElevatedVehicles 1. Would you be able to test those two apps, and see if they work side by side? 2. Can one connect a mouse for navigation of Joying head unit?
@@raczyk I'm out of town until Oct unfortunately for work. As for the mouse, I haven't tried. Owners will give ya pointers on that :)
I know this is an older video but I believe you can change your car logo by accessing the files and there's an apk that you can install and it'll allow you to change your boot logo to your vehicle
joyings included instructions should be more clear in regards using the otg usb for android auto, and not sure if there is an issue with my unit but it doesn't go to android auto in bluetooth mode
Admittedly I never use it the AA or carplay feature. When the headunit is so much more capable than AA I didn't see the point. I guess I could see AA being a priority for those that want to be able to text while driving (through voice) but other than that scenario I find the headunit itself so much more capable. But yes, their instructions are trash.
@@ekimandersom4478they can be changed using two other themes. However, we recently gained root access on XDA developers forum so with that we will be able to change a lot more & truly customize
@@ElevatedVehicles perhaps I should be more specific. If you have an amp, and you use the High Level inputs using the speaker wires of the head unit, instead of low level (rca), the High level coming from the head is amplified. The Output Amplitude is to adjust for that.
Great video. Just installed mine in my Tundra. Is there a way to turn off the unit before turning off the truck. Also my AR rear camera has some flickering. I emailed joying and they said I needed a relay to send more power to camera. Did you have any issues with that. Thanks again
Nice! Congrats on the new HU. And thanks for the words of affirmation. To my knowledge there is no way to turn off the unit unless you installed a rocker switch, or you could also hit restart on the screen and then turn off the truck. You can also make the screen go black. Unit will still be on, but I often times will turn the display off when I'm in the country so I can see out my windshield easier. I had no flickering issues with my rear camera. Do you have another rear camera (stock maybe?) to swap it out and see if it's a camera issue or truly a relay cap that can hold more power for ya?
@@ElevatedVehicles I figured no way to shut down. I looked everywhere. No I didn't have a stock backup camera. I'm just debating ordering from Joying $10.00 is what they are charging me for it. Might go to a stereo place here and see what they might have.
@@ElevatedVehicles yes they do. I emailed them about issues with camera. Maybe a faulty Camera. So they made me send them a video of the camera on screen. They got back to me the next day and said it was a power issue and needed a relay. So they sent me a link to purchase from them.
@@cvj281 that's interesting. Have you tried tapping the power wire for the rear camera to a different 12 volt source to see if it cleans up the image? For example, before I installed mine I tested everything by hooking it straight up to my battery in the engine bay with some electrical tape to test to make sure they sent me good equipment.
Is your Sony lavalier, a mono plug? Because i tried a stereo mic and couldn't get it to work. The one that comes with the radio is mono. I would really like to use a better mic lol😅
Yes sir. That link to that Sony lavaliere in my description is stereo input but has a mono 3.5mm plug that plugs into the Joying. My gf noticed a difference for the better. Now she can still tell that I'm driving but that's because I drive a Jeep Wrangler which is basically a giant break going down the road 😅
@@fc3sluis haha 😆 Admittedly in that microphones defense it was trying to compete with my really loud Jeep Wrangler which has nearly zero insulation. I also think that this new 2023 head unit from Joying really helped in the Bluetooth dept. But when I bought that Sony lavalier that I put a link on in the description, it cleaned things up even more. You can still tell I'm driving but she says she can finally understand me & she can deal with the wind noise better
good video thanks. do you know if its possible to use the joying to act as a tracker like on a android phone? just thinking if the car is stolen you could use it with the 4G sim and see the cars location when powered on.
Actually yes. Funny you mention cause I was working on a video to address this. But yes haha with a 4g sim card in it, it does track the vehicle with Google find my device (and I'd imagine some other tracking apps probably)
@@cooper23racingnice! I think you'll enjoy it. By the way I tried an AT&T SIM card and it was okay. Performed better on T-Mobile / mint. I'm guessing it's because of the GSM antennas that they use in the unit are most likely on the T-Mobile frequency bands more so than AT&T bands
I watched the whole thing. Was hoping you would mention one of the things that bothers me about this new unit, is the fact you can't change wallpaper to anything but what they have already installed. There is not other option, no other way to add to the list either, as the folder where they are locate they have hidden so well.
Dude watching the whole thing is a trooper move. God bless ya. I think if I was a viewer I'd probably watch this video but at 1.25 or 1.5x but I digress. I didn't think about the wallpaper. Let me see what I find cause I have ADB enabled & have gotten into the hidden settings menu that they don't let (for some reason) us easily get to. But a big thanks to Joseph Metcalf who found the way to access this settings menu. I'll make a video now, upload it, then I'll come back here and link the video so you can see what I mean.
@@fordsixhoe1184 Thank you for the reminder. Uploading now :) it'll probably be in 360p quality until RUclips servers process the video fully then it will be in 1080p I'd give it 25minutes or so. It's at 3% uploading 😎
Yeah I thought of that but the way that drawing does updates is through an SD card so it seemed weird to me that they even had an MCU program access in the software
How did you figure out the canus? I have a Honda CRV and I know my controllers don't work on the old head unit that I have I just bought the new unit and if you can give me some information that would be terrific
When I placed my order through Amazon (linked in my description) I put a message in my order of the year, make, model of my vehicle & if they have a canbus module for easy plug n play of the head unit. They replied and said yes so I bought it too. Then, in the settings of the headunit you can select what canbus you have & it will connect to the canbus module once you select the correct canbus in the settings menu
@@ElevatedVehicles I got the unit and I'm in the car info I see can-box don't know which to choose. Also my Bluetooth isn't working with unit. I'm using my connections from old joying unit to new. Does it make any difference
@@anca3028 should be ok to use the old connections. In the canbus settings menu I just tried all the ones that said Jeep until it worked for my Jeep Wrangler. It was trial & error
Last question (hopefully); how do I adjust the amp settings? The amp needs 12v but cannot locate the on/off settings and 0v currently coming out. I love this radio, but this has been a major PITA. 😆
have you had any issues with bluetooth connectivity on your head unit? i have the 11.6 screen and the first head unit had really bad BT drops and they sent me a replacement and the same problem is happening. also, are you having any issues where people you call complain that it sounds like your window is open but it's not and they're hearing a bad echo?
Yes, I did on the echo. The mic provided by Joying is trash so I got a Sony lavalier that I linked in my video description (also below) & that fixed it. As for the drops, no sir. No issues there. Do you have the 2021 Joying unit or the 2023 version? Here's the mic amzn.to/3Pgg7Jt
Received same feedback (sort of a pun) about the echo from the stock mic that came with the unit. BT has been fine on a Pixel 7 Pro, but I've mostly let it go in favor of hotspotting my phone for wifi. BT has simply been relegated to a trigger for automation to enable the hotspot on my phone, lol
I have S23 ultra on the phone itself when you go to Bluetooth connections and click on the whatever radio you have in my case my older android I was able to turn off phone calls in the Bluetooth option that way it doesn't ring thru the unit . did you reprogram your canbus decoder, and if yes how did you do it,i think mine is broken(faulty) and im kinda stuck with no AC controls, fuel readings and stuff
I did not reprogram it but I had to go to the canbus settings in the head unit settings & look for one that said Jeep Wrangler. However I never experienced not having AC controls so that's kind of weird. Have you messaged Joying by chance?
Dang I'm trying to find the setting to turn on the turn signal so I can splice my rear camera input to the left & right turn signal. How did you get that setting to turn on?! That's awesome
Bro I wish I knew. Unfortunately I don't have a center channel in my Jeep 😕 But when I test dolby digital RUclips video. And it gets to that part where it starts doing the surround sound thing, it sounds awesome especially with my subwoofers.
@@ElevatedVehicles that’s good to know ik there’s a feature on the headunit that’s called “virtual center” and it acts as a center channel so you could use that with the 4.1 dts settings and it would act like a 5.1 system I heard some people like having virtual center Setting over a center channel

Hi, very good video, thx for this! Question, I’m going to buy a Joying unit as well for a 1981 Volkswagen T3 Single Din. Now I wonder if it’s worth to buy the new version with Android 12 rather than the version with Android 10. What would you recommend and is there a big difference between these two units?
Hello & thank you for the kind words. Yes very much so worth it for someone like me who's a bit of a head unit snob. I've reached a point with head units that cost means nothing to me so I'm not out there trying to look for the best deal or the best bang for my buck. I'm looking for a head unit that is feature packed with options. As well as looks aesthetically pleasing while performing well under high heat (convertible Jeep top off in the summer) I had a 2021 joying head unit running Android 10. It was my first Joying head unit. And then recently I upgraded to their latest version 2023 Android 12. Very much worth the upgrade by a wide margin. I've got a comparison video that I'm working on and will release at the end of this week. Doesn't compare performance or menu settings it just compares the screen sizes and shows just how thin the new one is. The new one is also much brighter which is great for someone like me that takes the top off and the Sun can often wash out the screen. But not so on this new unit
Thanks for the video, just got mine for my Honda Civic last week and have been going through the settings. Any chance you know the setting on how to get the rear view camera track to move with the steering wheel while reversing? I had been messing with the settings getting everything how I want it and had it earlier, but after a reboot it seems to have stopped.
@@ElevatedVehicles I did, they had given me a plug and play since my car model was available, luckily, and it came with the canbus module. Managed to get it all installed with no problems.
@@KuroKen92 o awesome! Ok then yes in settings there's an option to get that turned on. I'm out of town on Christmas trip but when I get back I can look in my settings to see where it's located so you can turn it on
There sure is! In a future video on my channel I talked about that. Back when I made this video that you're watching now I was real green in the thumbs haha
When you turn on the car does it automatically connect to bluetooth/ apple carplay or do you have to connect it manually every time you turn on the car?
Apple car play and android auto are worthless in my opinion. For me at least. Because the headunit IS it's own OS and is FAR MORE capable than car play and android auto. The only use case I could possibly see is if I want to text while driving. But yes it does auto connect to bluetooth. As for auto connect to carplay or android auto, I have no idea.
Looking at purchasing but will need canbus to retain steering wheel buttons and I’m kinda freaked out with what I’m reading about battery drain. I want to make sure the stereo turns off completely when the key is out but I’m not sure if that’s a wiring issue or a software issue
If you get their 2023 version (linked in my description) there is an option to turn off completely or turn off in sleep mode (which will drain battery slowly) however you can set sleep mode to fully turn off at a certain voltage (I have mine set to 11.6v) So that when the battery gets down to 11.6v the joying will turn completely off. The reason that I use sleep mode instead of fully turning off the unit is because when I walk back to my vehicle and turn it on the Joying boots up really really quickly.
Thanks Leroy! It does have HDMI out but you will need to request it from them when ordering & it's slightly more expensive. Since I don't have rear headrest screens I did not option mine with it and furthermore all it does is mimic what's on the front screen. It would be nice if it could play a video through the HDMI out while you're navigating with the main screen (example)
@@ElevatedVehicles I plan on adding a fan and heatsink in the near future, when doing so well I plan on adding the cable I'm curious as to what type HDMI it uses.

I wish the Chinese would show us what every feature does with an instruction sheet.
I had to learn all this the hard way 😅
"Delay Shutdown Seconds"
This is a feature I requested on my 2021 unit.

@@mikestivers8302 that's awesome. You're gonna love it! (The head unit, not my RUclips videos haha)
@ElevatedVehicles yeah I can only imagen lol... It's something I personally have never tackled yet either before. It's be a major task I'm sure lol
@@jeepjoe1996 when it launches I'll order it and then do an install video. I'm looking forward to pulling my hair out haha
I found that the date/time will also sync via GPS. It takes about 10 minutes because it has to download the orbit info from the satellites first.
O that's cool! I use to have a SIM card in my older 2021 unit for a couple of months then decided to just use my hotspot on my phone & automate that process of the head unit to cell phone handshake.
I didn't know GPS only, after some time, would sync the clock. That's 😎 cool
I need to move the gps device. Mine looses connection far too often and is placed behind the unit.
@@ElevatedVehicles not only that their OBDII adapter causes battery drain on my Mazda 6 (it wakes up the car computer every 10 mins or so) so I can't use it, and I can't replace it with a good one :(
Truly informative and well listenable walkthrough. Thank you, learnt a lot. Replacing my 2021 unit with the new one tomorrow!

But this requires me to lower or increase my bass knob each time I do this
Great video, a lot of setup options. I bet it took a while to figure them all out
Yes sir a metric ton of options. Which I love. Something Alpine, Sony, Kenwood, etc... don't give us 🥺
Navi Data copy is a remnant from a time where the internet wasnt available to every device, an era where you had to download maps and navigation data xD
haha, that's awesome. I remember those days back in the 90s
Here's a link where I got my sony microphone from
amzn.to/3qR99RQ
It's a lavalier stereo mic. So it helps, I mean it doesn't make it a magician since I have a Jeep Wrangler which has the aerodynamics of a brick so people can't hear me the clearest when I'm going over 50 mph but that's a me problem not a head unit problem. 😅
Is there any way to edit or change the guidelines on the backup cam? Both options suck and i miss the old one i used to have in my civic
For Jeep Wrangler or for a specific vehicle?
Great info
@@ElevatedVehicles I think it's just for any New Joying head unit. It shouldn't be vehicle specific. So you can change it from KPH to MPH and Celsius to Fahrenheit.
@@shoxyooj2788 o that's what's up. Very cool. Thank you for the info mate
I love my unit, but I should be able to adjust the guide lines on the AR camera, but it seems we cannot.
My AR cameras don't have guide lines until I put it in reverse.
My 2021 Joying unit you could adjust the guidelines when you put it in reverse & hold one finger on the screen for 2 seconds then a hidden menu popped up.
Have you tried that on this new 2023 unit?

@vtecef9 correct this one doesn't integrate with the canbus for maintenance reminders

Thank you for the info!
I'll check out the torque app

Have you posted about this on the XDA forums & on the joying head unit Facebook unofficial group?
Where is the AMP ON/OFF settings at in the radio. I HAVE no sound at all. I have RCA's connected on back of head unit.
Great question. I'm unsure. I'd post your question in the XDA forum Joying thread
Thats really the goal is to have a gauge cluster and camera inputs in one screen
Ah what a freaking workaround.
@@ElevatedVehicles lmao, that is how I did it and couldn't remember how later!

And thanks for the kind words on the reviews! 😊😊

@@cvj281 that's interesting. Have you tried tapping the power wire for the rear camera to a different 12 volt source to see if it cleans up the image?

As well as looks aesthetically pleasing while performing well under high heat (convertible Jeep top off in the summer)
I had a 2021 joying head unit running Android 10.

If you get their 2023 version (linked in my description) there is an option to turn off completely or turn off in sleep mode (which will drain battery slowly) however you can set sleep mode to fully turn off at a certain voltage (I have mine set to 11.6v)
So that when the battery gets down to 11.6v the joying will turn completely off.
The reason that I use sleep mode instead of fully turning off the unit is because when I walk back to my vehicle and turn it on the Joying boots up really really quickly.
My older Joying unit doesn't drain the battery (you may want to disable parking mode AR cam on this one), but their ODBII adapter does.
Does this show the vehicle maintanence information like a factory unit does? and what about TPMS?
It does not on my unit for my Jeep Wrangler but I also never had that option from the factory either.
Where is the setting located to turn on the RCA outputs for an amp? I have no sound and manual says "AMP ON/OFF" I cannot find this setting.
I have the same problem. Are you finde something about this?
Bass and Center RCA is not working.

@@ffre4k do you have a Jeep Wrangler?
Nope, honda crv
@@ffre4k o nice. Is your Joying acting up?
Host Volume is the main volume and the value is literally what it is at currently on your unit. I find it pointless, unless it is a way to aid in adjusting the other settings while in Settings. But yet again, steering wheel controls, jesture, speaker button at the top are all there already. I didn't get it.
O so that's what that is!
Yea what a pointless waste of time for the software developer to incorporate that in the settings
@@ElevatedVehicles unless it's there so you can see the current value for when setting the Amplitude for the amp high level inputs. Was just thinking about that.
@@fordsixhoe1184 that's an idea. I don't have an amp for my components but it's a good question to ask some others that do that could test this theory
do you use zlink ? if so how did you get it to activate ?
I do not use Zlink, android auto, nor apple carplay. For me, it makes no sense to use that when the headunit has way more capability in the native OS.
Does Joying ship fast????
When I ordered mine on Amazon I got it in 6 days and I live in Arkansas United States
I just ordered one on November 9th and its Dec 11th and I'm still waiting
@@numba1nitemare that’s crazy
@@definitelyduse sucks but I really want it.. suppose to come in today but let's see it's already 2 and nothing
@@numba1nitemare holy crap that's awhile. Where did you order yours from?
Can these android head unit's work with factory 360 camera?. My MG ZS EV comes with factory 360 camera and i do not want to loose that feature when i upgrade to this android unit. Can U help & detail?. Thanks.
I am unsure about that. I would email Joying
iPhone users you chose the wrong side,😂😂 I use both apple and android an they both do what I need them to do. So I don’t see the big deal. But regardless that comment was funny as hell!!!!
Haha 😆😆 you caught that comment that's awesome.
My girl has iPhone & I have android & we have this debate often 😅
